Excellent. So what you consider to be a respectable MMO, EVE, has embraced the cash shop mentality of allowing those with excess disposable income to bankroll gamers with more time than funds. Ergo, other games should be able to use similar systems and still be considered 'respectable' MMOs. Screw respectability, the game plays better than any MMO I've ever played. Will Zurmacht wrote:Excellent. What counts is if the game is good, and the dev's still have income to continue the game.

don't you know that this game is based like 800 years before Argonians got tails?Argonanza wrote:Finally, I get to explore Black Marsh!

well, considering that the oldest guild that anyone can join is the Mages Guild, which is only 200 years old at the point the game is set in, then we might not be seeing much of the guilds. maybe the Companions before Lycanthropy or the Comonna Tong. doesn't that sound fun?Witchery wrote:How would the Dark Brotherhood work? Um indeed. it's like he doesn't know we have to do this stuff already. still, the MMO might have us doing this stuff more often with 5 varieties of the same monster that drop slightly different pelt that we need to deliver to 5 different NPCs.Cardbird wrote:Um....Witchery wrote:It won't be TES when the NPCs hand out quests to kill twelve Flame Atronachs or find some Dunmer's missing sword in the middle of Elsweyr.

which of course can only be done when the game arrives...
what? what do you think the ratio of Pals:Pricks is in MMOs? when I played MMOs I typically had a rather pleasant experience with 1 out of every 50 or so being loud and obnoxious. your play time must be very easily spoiled if you let 1 fool per 2 hours ruin your perspective.Iamgoofball wrote:And then when they stop helping the guild gives the favorites orders to kill them over and over again till they either rage quit, or start helping again.unokitsune wrote:Excatly. is that what they did? when did they do that? I would've thought they'd have an enthusiastic Lore Master to deal with most of the problems but since they're killing people who appear chronologically later, turning Red Mountain into Blue Mountain and they gave Argonians tails despite the game being base before Arena where they had no tails. I can see how this would upset a lot of people.fabittar wrote:After you're done reading it, you might find that you grew attached to it. That's successful fiction. also I looked up the pics and I'm reasonably happy with it, got a funky Kagouti, Ordinator Armour (at least the Helmet anyway), some unfortunately low-cut female armour, not much of a cut but it's there, and a few psuedo-practical looking warriors. otherwise it looks pretty plain and pleasant on the surface.
worth my money to give it a try. I just don't know if it's so good I'll actually get past the half way mark.

DAoC had armor that looked good without being ridiculous, and the female armor in TES games looks nice and functional, for the most part. I will continue to hope that they don't feel the need to create any Epic Thong of Metal Riding Up A Girl's Exposed Ass type of equipment.Gandalf wrote:Oh... you may not wanna play it then. @Lotet: Yeah because Skyrim=TES fanbase. Lol, whatchu smokin?
Besides, if you actually look at the facts:
10.2 million people today play WoW since it's release. Of the 11.68 million skyrim copies purchased, it is safe to assume that many people have also returned their copies. Reasonably speaking, 20%. 9.34 copies of skyrim vs 10.2 million players. Roughly 9/10. Fraction.
Now, looking at things more realistically:
Actual fans of the TES series and not just bandwagoners: 2 million, depending on where you find fans. I pretty much just combined the total members of several forums, likes on facebook, etc etc (in TES best interest). 2 million vs 10.2 million. 1/5. Fraction.
Now, realistically speaking, if current attitudes continue, there is no way all TES fans would want to play the MMO. So far, I'd say only 1 out of 5 people are for the idea so 1/25. Fraction.
Also, plenty was happening 1000 years ago (i count at least 4 Major Events vs. Skyrim's 5, Oblivion's 6 and Morrowind's 2, going off of UESP) and knowing bethesda, they won't go exactly 1000 years in the past. Bethesda has lots of imagination. They could make a 200 hour plus game just about an Ant Hill colony needing to gather food before winter if they wanted to. I bet it would sell 5 million copies too lol. Besides, if you bothered to read the topic CLOSER, you would know that Bethesda and Zenimax are not limited to what lore has already occurred and they could easily make lore that a) went unnoticed by historians and b) does not conflict with current lore.

Re: MMO announced.
This is silly. Every gamer has played Skyrim, just like every gamer on the PC has played WoW, and yet can every person who plays WoW be considered an "actual fan"? No, in fact I've never heard anyone say they prefer WoW to other games; for the most part, they play WoW when they're bored of everything else.
Besides the fact that Skyrim has been out for six months, while WoW's been out since 2003. The fact that Skyrim has actually surpassed WoW's current subscribers is frankly astonishing.

Re: MMO announced.
I stopped playing MMO’s a year or two. Not by choice, my computer crapped out but I wasn’t too worried about returning. I was lucky that Elder Scrolls continued on consoles so I haven’t bothered trying to get a new computer. I can play Morrowind on my current laptop and I have Oblivion and Skyrim on my PS3.
The Elder Scrolls have been my favorite series since I started Morrowind, which today is still my favorite game, followed closely by Skyrim. I always told myself the only way I’d ever worry about getting back into MMO’s and save for a new computer was if the Elder Scrolls made an MMO. Well hell, they did it.
I know all of you worries and fears; I share a few of the same. I still want my single player ES games because they are so immersive, it’s just me VS the world, and a hell of a world it is. So in that regards I really hope they continue the series and keep the incredible lore flowing.
But as far as MMO’s go, yeah you’ll have your kids and people who don’t give a skeever’s about the lore, but as long as you can find a group of like minded individuals to play with the experience can be amazing. If true guilds pop up with ES enthusiast and proper joining requirements then you won’t have to bother with the immature. I played Vanguard Saga of Heroes for a year and a half and it was the greatest online gaming experience. I was in an awesome guild, we talked over ventrilo and had good times grouping, raiding, and even harvesting. They were a great group of people and they made the game 10x better.
So in short, give it a chance. As long as true fans stick together and help each other out, we can forge our own excellent gaming experience. I just hope I have time to save for a new computer!

Re: MMO announced.
According to ign the three main factions are as follows:
Ebonheart Pact (Northern and Eastern Regions)
- Includes Argonions, Dunmer and Nords
Aldmeri Dominion (South and Southwest Regions)
- Includes Altmer, Bosmer and Khajiit
Daggerfall Covenant (Northwest Regions)
- Includes Bretons, Orcs and Redguards
The Dark brotherhood, Fighters guild, Theives guild and Mages guild have all been confirmed as joinable guilds.
Fighters Guild:
To get into the Fighters Guild, you'll have to find and destroy Dark Anchors. Dark Anchors are giant hooks sent by Molag Bal from his Daedric Plane of Coldharbour. Their job is to drag Tamriel into his his plane. Defeat the Daedric Guardian that is blocking the anchor, and send the anchor back to Coldharbour to get on the Fighter Guild's good side
Mages Guild:
To get into the Mages Guild, you'll have to search high and low for special Lore Books hidden throughout Tamriel. They can be in the busiest cities, or they could be in the most desolate mines. It's uncertain if the books will be randomly placed or set in specific locations.
Dark Brotherhood:
Currently, there's no information on how to join The Dark Brotherhood.
Theives Guild:
Currently, there's no information on how to join The Thieves Guild.
Other points ign stated
■TES Online will be seen from a third person perspective, and skills will be activated from a hotbar.
■Fights will no longer be in real time.
■Presently, there are no plans to include a system that allows players to invest in property as they could in the single-player experience.
■Marriage and relationships will be confined to inter-player relations, rather than arrangements with NPC characters.
■Players will be unable to contract Vampire and Werewolf diseases, but there will be Vampires and Werewolves in the game.
■You will not be able to fast travel from any point of the map, but fast travel will still be available. Travel from wayshrine to wayshrine to get around Tamriel. Wayshrines will also be the places you come back to life after being killed.
■A new AI system will be used for all NPCs. Instead of everyone going to sleep at night, NPCs will not have the same schedules as older Elder Scrolls games. This was done to allow people to play on their own time.
■Public Dungeons will be returning to the MMO scene. These dungeons are not separated from the rest of the world. They're designed in a way to allow groups of players to team up and work through the caves or ruins.
■Mundus Stones will be set throughout the world, each with specific constellations and powers tied to them. Find one and activate it to tie the powers to your character.

Re: MMO announced.
The thing about MMOs is that they are either done extremely right, or extremely wrong. This worries many people, as if this game doesn't meet up to expectations, it will most likely be the worst TES yet, unfortunately. This is a VERY new concept to Bethesda, and I hope they can pull it off successfully. That being said, I won't be buying the game, as I tend to stay out of MMOs for my own good, no matter how great the game is.
