Today I offered to duel somebody in the ancient art of Pooh Sticks. Sadly, they did not accept.
Apart from that I'm finally going to get the lenses fitted in my new glasses. Apparrently, sight is important. Who knew?

I realized something this week... I probably have not been grumpy because of GD...
I have not really been that grumpy (unless it is part of my persona), since I quit playing TES Games, and have stayed out of the TES Sections.

That...actually....is really clever. You definitely live in one of the best places in the world for such a series.Avron the S'wit wrote:Then, I got to the train station, where I was able to have yet another glorious episode of my long acclaimed series "Waiting for the Bus" (aka "Waiting for the Train"). I started to jokingly post these on Facebook about a year ago, each based on the bizarre things that happen to me throughout the day on public transit, and it became a huge hit. Today I had a man try to tell me he liked my shoes so much I should take them off so he could examine the soles. When I protested, he goes, "What, you got stinky feet?"
I've been to NYC several times, but my first time was funny. The first time I was there a flamboyant black lady looked me straight in the eyes and said, "You're not from around here are you?" I was amazed that she knew this and I didn't know how she knew.
In hindsight I remember that I stuck out like a sore thumb. I was 11ish with a tucked in shirt and a fanny pack. Yes, a fanny pack. It was the 90s.
Oh and if I had to wait on trains I would listen to this hendrix song, "Hear my train a-commin"

What's a fannypack?

It's a little bag that clips around your waist for you to put things into. It was pretty common in the 80s/90s (I have a picture of me with one - oh yeah), not so much now. Looks like this.
Today I also learnt that Googling "fannypack" brings up some interesting photos...

I'll bet it does. I've never been much for fanny packs - messenger bags all the way.

Re: The 'What happened to you today' thread
Today I dropped by at my school - I graduated three years ago and today I wanted to give my best wishes to my English teacher on her birthday and see how they are running the joint without my supervision.
Well, having said my congrats, I decided to go and visit other teachers. I was passing by the classroom where I sued to have my Maths class and hovered a bit in front of the glass door to see if the Maths teacher was in. To my utmost astonishment, a teacher completely unknown to me - she wasn't there while was was studying at school, - a very robust, energetic lady, leapt out like a rocketing pheasant, and the following exchange took place:
Robust, energetic lady: What class are you in, girl? You are skipping classes, aren't you, strolling about in the corridor like that? I will take you to the principal!
Self: [remains silent to see how the situation unfolds]
To cut a long story short, the said r.e.l. grabbed me by the sleeve and conducted me most ceremoniously to the principal's office.
There, a most touching reunion took place since the principal is my former form teacher.
Her illusion dispelled, the r.e.l. patted my on the shoulder in a most chummy manner and returned to her duties, leaving me most amused by the little incident.

Congratulations, Norroen. You've mastered the art of causing Wodehousean events to play out in real life.

I endeavour to give satisfaction. In this case, to my sense of comedy.Gideon Dragontongue wrote:Congratulations, Norroen. You've mastered the art of causing Wodehousean events to play out in real life.
And high five for seeing the situation in the way I did. I tried to convey the style a little, too.

Wodehouse did me a mighty good turn when I was preparing for my English Stylistics exam last semester. I stuffed his quotes as examples in many exam questions that I was revising for.

I had a dream that I was vomiting and I woke up vomiting. Why couldn't I have instead dreamt that I was in bed with a pretty girl?!? Why!?

Why indeed? It has to do with the fact that girls, contrary to popular opinion, are not mere physical objects. So her personality would simply be an aspect of your personality, transplanted into a pretty body. Obvious conclusion: I haven't proven anything.

You pick up on these sort of things when you're an Anglophile.
Take the line "That girl's gotta lot of spunk." Ironically, 1930's American pulp fiction (a genre of crime and cutting-edge sin) is the one place where that phrase is at its least offensive. (means "spirit" or "spark" in such context)
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

I still have a fanny pack but I dare say it's kind of cool. Though I wouldn't want to defend it's coolness in front of a panel of cool people.
What happened to me today? For hours I experienced pain that is literally, medically documented, as a contender for the worst pain known to science. Go ahead, call my bs. I don't care anymore.

In interest of keeping my blood pressure down I'm not going to discuss it (extremely rare CNS disorder). I'm not kidding though, it's worse than childbirth (reportedly).
