"We found shelter in the ash-caked temple of Gnisis, Qa'Mhirr thinks it shouldn't be too much of an issue," the dagi-raht said while rummaging through his felled attacker's pockets with practiced ease.
"It does make khajiit wonder why they wouldn't use the river that passes through there for faster travel or even as a road if it has dried out..."

"I do not think it wise to leave these Argonians unchecked," Thoryn stated flatly, "We were attacked here, and we were fortunate. Other travellers and pilgrims might not be so lucky. We owe all of Tamriel a debt to purge these lands and make them safe once more."

He considered things for a moment, "But it is true, we must make for Vivec also. We should make haste, and once we have arrived, when we part ways I shall return here myself to finish this. We could circumvent Caldera and make straight for Balmora," he suggested.

"Let's get going. The sun is already going down." He said. He looked around at the Argonian corpses, before standing up, and leading the group towards Balmora.

The rest of their journey was uneventful, and though they had a couple close calls, they eventually made it away from the occupied territory. They arrived at Balmora just as night fell. Some buildings had been decimated, but others remained completely untouched.

"Let's try to find someplace to sleep." Leiden said. "I'd imagine the Mages Guild is pretty intact... and it might even have some beds."

Llarays looked for the Mages Guild, keeping his sword ready in case of ambush.

Thoryn followed dejectedly, "I wish to visit the Temple," he announced, "If it stands yet."

"Feel free Thoryn," He said. "But I'm tired. I'm going to find the first standing building, board it up, and go to sleep." Sure enough, he soon spotted a ruined sign of the Mages guild outside a charred building. "Let's go." He gestured. He led the group inside, and down into the basement - which just like he thought, was completely spotless. "Oh thank god..." He laughed. "We get real beds again."

Thoryn left his pack by one of the beds and ascended the stairs for the Temple. The Temple itself still stood, although the roof had partially collapsed inwards long before. Thoryn found a shrine to Nerevar after a few moments of sifting through the debris and so he knelt in prayer for nigh on a quarter of an hour, still troubled by the abandoning of Caldera.

Finally, he rose to return to the others in the Mages Guild, he had not gone halfway before he stopped and decided instead to scour the dejected town. Crossing the bridge he made for the nearby guard tower, struggling to ply open the door until it finally gave way.

Inside, Thoryn was astonished to find blackened corpses. The heat from the asteroid had melted the skin off their bones, and blackened their bones. Their bodies were covering something - a chest. The floor boards had been dug up - a smugglers chest. Broken bottles of skooma lay underfoot.

Thoryn let out a sigh at the sight and kicked a foot inconsequentially at the chest. He wondered if the Khajiit might enjoy the skooma, but moved on, disregarding the thought. He ventured back across the bridge towards the Mages Guild, before diverting into the manor district of the town for a final stop.

He found that many of the buildings had been destroyed or were otherwise of little interest, the ruins of one of the guard towers lying sundered across the square, but one Manor remained in relatively untarnished condition, and Thoryn worked his way inside, finding a single skeletal figure sprawled haphazardly on the floor before him.

Nightrunner dropped his gear at the foot of one of the beds, stipped off his armour and unbuckled his sword belt. He was tired, but he wasn't ready to go to bed yet. He pulled his dagger from his pack and stuffed it into his boot. Even in a place that should be safe it didn't hurt to be armed. He rounded a corner and came across what must have once been an alchemy lab. The equipment was somewhat rotton and tarnished, but it was still unmistakably a large iron calicinator and a small alembic. he turned to his right to find an entire cabinet filled with potions of many colours and types. They were covered in a thick layer of dust but other than that looked to be in perfect condition.

"Hey, come through here." Nightrunner shouted to the others. "I've found something most intruiging."

"Well I'll be..." Leiden muttered. "These potions must be worth a fortune. If only we could find a way to identify them, we could use some of them for healing..."

"Well, c'mon. Let's get what we can. They should be light enough." He opened his pack, and stuffed it with as many potions as he thought was enough to be worth it, while still leaving space. His pack had more wealth in it than most people would ever see in their lives - and was enough to get started in his new life. All he had to do was make it to Vivec.

"I'm going to get some shut eye." He said to NightRunner. "I'm also going to bar my door, and I advise you to do the same." With that, Leiden hopped up into one of the bedrooms, put a chair in front of it to prevent anyone sneaking in, and went to bed.

Qa'Mhirr ventured deeper into the guild hall, ignoring a stack of rickety old beds in favor of the next room which looked like an old alchemist's garden, long since dried up.
He closed the door and barricaded it with a nearby desk, throwing out his bedroll and curling up in it.

Spoiler:
Maybe they add walls in the couple decades before the Red Year, maybe part of the walls collapsed into the Fighter's Guild and our unknowing adventurers don't know this.

Or maybe the ingame representation of the world isn't to the proper scale...which is the case with Oblivion and the Niben...

It is indeed Roadcone 8)

Thoryn examined the chamber idly and returned to his companions in the Mages Guild, falling soon to sleep in one of the bunks in the main sleeping quarters of the Guild hall.

Nightrunner took 3 potions. One was blue, one was red and one was yellow. He wasn't sure exactly what they would they do but they may be useful later. He stuffed then into his pouch and returned to the main room. The others were asleep but Nightrunner didn't feel like going to bed, what he need was a wash, none of the group had washed for days and Nightrunner was beginning to notice the smell. He collected his gear and left the guild hall. Turning a few corners he found that a canal ran through the centre of the town, It was mostly dried up but there were patches of water here and there in small pools.

Nightrunner stripped and washed himself. In some places the dirt and grime came off in chunks. It was disgusting work, but he was glad of it. He soaked, scrubbed and cleaned all of his gear next, leaving it to dry out on a large slab of stone that the sun would heat in the morning. Finally he opened his satchel and for the first time, he properly inspected the treasure that he had found at the manor house. There was gold, silver, gems, Necklaces, bracelets, crowns, chalices and all manor of other valuable items. He turned a chalice bedazzled with rubies over in his hand. When he returned to civilisation he would be a very rich man.

After about an hour he became weary, packing up the treasure he returned to the guild hall. The others were still asleep in their rooms, the hall was very quiet. He shoved his old sword through the door handle of his room, locking it from the inside. He was still naked and had no other clothes so he put the sword from Azura under his pillow and climbed into bed nude. He'd missed beds, they really were one of his favourite things.

The morning came quickly - too quickly for most of the adventurers. Leiden grumpily stirred awake, sitting up on his bed. He yawned, and grabbed his pack, taking his canteen, and a drink of water from it. He replaced the canteen and stood up, unbarring the doors. "Time to get moving!" He yelled. "Big day ahead. Vivec awaits."
