SDP format documented?

Post by juhana »

Is the SDP shader file documented at UESP Wiki or at CS Wiki?
How shaders are stored with Oblivion? Morrowind? Are they in
a shader language form or in compiled bytecode form?
(I have not extracted the shaders.)

Anyway, "shaders.sdp" file which comes with oldblivion has
the following format:

header:
<int = 64> <int = number of shaders> <int = data size>
shaders:
<256 bytes = file name> <int = code size = N> <N bytes = shader code>
(more shaders follows)

The shader code format is documented at Microsoft MSDN.
The webpage is "ms800354.aspx".

Wine source code at winehq includes an implementation and
the list of instruction numbers that I could not find from
Microsoft's documentation.

1. Why are you writing in stanzas?
2. Why do you even need to know that?
3. You'd be better off asking at the oldblivion forums.
Removed due to size.

Stanzas? I'm not interested in oldoblivion; I'm interested in
the Oblivion shader system.

I would like to disassemble the Oblivion shaders to editable
form. One modder who has written shaders listed the same
task, and this way I could save his time.

I suggest you extract them and take a look :D I don't know of any place where this is documented, but probably asking at the BGSF is your best bet. I'm sure they follow a standard format, since there are several mods out there that use custom shaders in spell effects.

Just to clarify: the format is in my first posting.
It just needs to be copied to Wiki.

My sdpparser already extracts and disassembles.
Hopefully next it will output the high level shader
code so that effects can be edited and recompiled.

I will also find out how the shaders and Gamebryo
are connected. E.g., initial register contents for every
shader, render passes, etc. I asked this at Niftools
forum today as I'm a far from expert.

Oh, I completely misread your first post--I thought you wanted to know if oblivion and oldblivion use the same format.

Since I guess the answer to whether or not this info is on the wiki is "no," it would be good if you add it, maybe in a new page?
