Dark Brotherhood versus Thieves Guild
Which is better and why.
Thieves guild. Hey, we might steal everything you have, but we leave you alive so you can go work and recuperate your stuff so that we can then just steal it from you again. And the Thieves Guild has more cute babes than the DB. And we have a Guild Hall. But we have a lame hat the leader has to wear...

OMG are you serious?!?!?!? The DB is so much better, i mean you get a compianion who protects you! Who can turn invisible, sneak and run faster than most charaters! Cute girls.... so what, its a videogame dude. Plus the quest line is so much cooler, killing people sneaking around, I mean have you ever play 'Whodunit' its like the greatest quest in the game. *Pants, but hey you entitled to you opinion...

Thieves Guild quests get the thumbs up with respect to sneaking. If I remember correctly, you -have- to sneak more during the TG quests than you -have- to sneak doing the DB quests. And how is stealing any different than murder with respect to 'whodunit'? Don't both actions elicit the point of 'whodunit?'

PS Who's the invisible companion you're talking about?

Erm... Mouser, pal. "Whodunit" isn't a reference to bounty or anything as you saeem to think... It's a Dark Brotherhood quest that's set up like clue... it's a bunch of nobles in a big house looking for a chest of gold that doesn't exist. You get to play the part of one of these nobles. Oh no! There seems to be a psycho-murderer on the loose! So yeah... basically, to get the bonus in the quest, you have to kill everyone, without anyone witnessing any of the murders... which I didn't do too well at, actually, but I'm gonna make another character and go at it again simply because it's an awesome concept.
I personally like the Dark Brotherhood... they have less restrictions...you can't kill anyone involved in the quest, which is my preferred form of Thievery... kill them and then rob their house... it's much more cleaner.
Oh! And the Dark Brotherhood also has the Traitor... who happens to have a piece of morbid art called a diary... and I have been reading it over and over again in admiration.

Oh! And the invisible companion isn't always invisible. When you become the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood (which is the Guildmaster) you gain control of the Cheydinhal sanctuary and you get to witness the rebuilding of the local Brotherhood. As more recruits spill in, you can command them to come with you, and if you tell them to "remain hidden", they go into sneak mode with a Chameleon spell on, which is better than most NPC companions that may ruin stealth gameplay.... of course I can't think of any other companions quite so permenant...

i'm down with the sneak thing but you have to admit, killing someone and not being seen, it always keeps you on edge. You have to admit, runnning around and stealing isn't nearly as fun as running around and killing. And the cool thing about your compainion is that you can choose from three; a kajit (or w/e) swordsman, and imperial archer and a breton nightblade (or sneaky mage) which kicks the crap out of a mage aprentice. They are kinda weak, but all compainions are pretty weak but the whole chamleon thing works well when you attack something and he or she takes the heat off you when you need it. Plus DB undergoing 'personal problems wit the traitor and the night mother and the killing kicks the crap out of the whole robin hood thing from the theives giuld.
Only the dead have seen the end of war.

---------MAY CONTAIN DARK BROTHERHOOD SPOLIER---------
Dark Brotherhood by far. I mean cummon. Every quest is killing someone (apart from one). Anyway, for when you get angry, you can prolong the targets deaths, by using restoration spells to heal them. This is great when you're annoyed. Or if you are kind, you can just completely destroy them as fast as you can.

If we're basing this off of the quests each guild gives you, then I would certainly say the Dark Brotherhood has the better quests (and rewards). However, the Thieves' Guild gameplay is much better by far. The Thieves' Guild forces you to use your brain instead of your brawn to solve problems.
Vote: Thieves' Guild.

In terms of quests, rewards and probably storyline, the Dark Brotherhood IMO is the best of the 4 major guilds. In fact, it's so awesome that I feel compelled to play through it even playing as "good" characters. If you're playing an evil character, there's no reason not to do both quest lines. However, I would suggest doing Thieves Guild first, because finishing the Thieves Guild questline makes the DB quests much easier.

The shadow of the past never dies, so walk forward knowing you can become better than what you've left behind.

Well, if you keep a savegame right before you enter Summitmist, you can repeat the Whodunit? quest as often as you like.
There are a few variations you might want to tackle. Enchant a dagger with a huge fire-based splash damage. Collect all the loose weapons in the manor (dagger on the ground floor, shortsword on the upper floor, and axe in the basement) and drop your new trinket on the floor. Induce one of the guests to attack you, they pick up the dagger, strike and— BOOM. Reflect Damage or Reflect Spell adds to the fun, of course.
Staff of Everscamp + Wabbajack + Invisibility Potion drunk the moment the Scamp transforms = Fun.
Get the last guest to attack you, then reanimate the guest they liked with the Staff of Worms. Let the last victim meet their death at the hands of the person they least expect it from: one of the previous victims!
All in all, though, the Dark Brotherhood has the better toys, but the Thieves Guild has the more entertaining activities (though they are a little more arduous).

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Hey, in the DB we still get docked if we kill EXTRA people besides the target, hehe...so it isn't just about murder, it's stealth.
The DB has great bonuses, a cool look, and some pretty cool hiding places...
My only beef is that the skill required for the missions seems weird. For example, the first is pathetically easy, but the second was a pretty tricky, then the third was pathetically easy...
Seems these should get progressively harder, not up and down...
