Those are word for word my exact thoughts.soda popinski wrote:I have a theory that people tend to think that the first Elder Scrolls game that they really play through thoroghly is going to be their favorite one.
I played Oblivion in and out, and finally decided to get Morrowind maybe 6 months before Skyrim came out. By then the game was so outdated that it was really hard to get into, despite recognizing why people liked it.
Skyrim I feel improves on Oblivion in a lot of ways, and you can't fully judge it until all of the pieces are released, but I have a certain nostalgic feeling when I think of Oblivion

I played through Oblivion first, and I still prefer Morrowind. Still seeing if Skyrim is worthy of trumping Morrowind after 200 hours of gameplay... >_<

I've played seven games enough to like them and keep playing them. I've tried a total of maybe twenty five.Frost Mage wrote:You've played seven games.Gideon Dragontongue wrote:I love Skyrim more than I've ever liked any other game. Only two or three even come close.

Re: 50 Reasons Why Skyrim is the Best Elder Scrolls Game Eve
Well, that's not true for me. I started on Oblivion, on which I played several characters through the Main Quest and several other long quest lines. However, I prefer Skyrim to Oblivion. My primary issue with Skyrim was, at first, the major lag problem on the PS3. But they've patched that out. *looks at Doros pointedly* Now I'm not sure if I have a major issue. Just a few small things that are insignificant in the big picture of HOW AWESOME THIS GAME IS, like Dual Casting's power/effect ratio.soda popinski wrote:I have a theory that people tend to think that the first Elder Scrolls game that they really play through thoroghly is going to be their favorite one.

Re: 50 Reasons Why Skyrim is the Best Elder Scrolls Game Eve
My first game was Oblivion then after about a year of playing (and loving) that, I got Morrowind GOTY. It was completely awful. It had nothing good about. Nothing even ok about it. Well except the music. I put in about 30-40 hours into it and kept trying to tell myself 'There must be some reason people like this game' but never found it. Skyrim however, is my favorite game of all timeRedDeadFred wrote:soda popinski wrote:I have a theory that people tend to think that the first Elder Scrolls game that they really play through thoroghly is going to be their favorite one.

That's interesting. I played Morrowind first, easily for five hundred hours, and then tried out Oblivion, and hated it. Fortunately, Skyrim came out not long after, and I have to agree with you there.

Re: 50 Reasons Why Skyrim is the Best Elder Scrolls Game Eve
First ES I played was Morrowind GOTY on PC. Awesome game. I can't even imagine how many hours I put into it. I got Oblivion for PS3, thought it was lame, traded it in. About a year later went back and bought the GOTY edition(also on PS3) and played the crap out of it. It was a good game, it had it's pros and cons, but so did Morrowind. I think I prefer Morrowind to Oblivion just because Morrowind feels exotic, it is a completely strange land. Oblivion is set in Cyrodill, and that's about as generic-fantasy-landscape you can get. This all being said, Skyrim is my favorite so far. Only issues I've had are the issues most people have had. Broken quests and bugs because of the randomness of the RQ system, and the PS3 lag, which thankfully has finally been patched!

I started with Morrowind, couldn't get into Oblivion, love Skyrim. Nostalgia may explain why I rate Morrowind above Oblivion. It can't explain why I rate Skyrim above Morrowind. I loved Morrowind in spite of its character leveling system. I love Skyrim because of its character leveling system, which may be overly simplified, but at least doesn't get in the way.Sansreal wrote:Well, that's not true for me. Re: 50 Reasons Why Skyrim is the Best Elder Scrolls Game Eve
Skyrim somehow managed to get a lot of the unique feel (not flavor) of Morrowind really well while improving on the already improved gameplay in Oblivion. The density of the world and uniqueness of the characters has a lot to do with it. Having some music straight out of Morrowind helped ALOT actually.
Oblivion honestly doesn't make it into my top three games anymore. I could start a new game on Morrowind tomorrow and be hooked again. If I tried that with Oblivion, I probably wouldn't make it out of the starting sewers before I just exited the game.
Skyrim beats them all, however. I've played Skyrim fairly consistently since November 11th. It's now April. I feel like I can take Skyrim slowly, walking everywhere, spending days in town crafting, exploring every nook and cranny and feeling like I'm actually being rewarded for it. There is actually a lot of depth in the character system to keep builds interesting. It consistently delivers new experiences for me, even while trudging around doing stuff that I've done before. I've played through the beginning of the game countless times with different builds and little details still jump out at me.
I still play through Morrowind once a year, but even I can't ignore the atrocious gameplay at times
. Oblivion was fun and I loved the advances at the time, but it is extremely one note in retrospect. I after logging a few hundred hours, I can't even get through the intro sewers without exiting the game. Skyrim is the best of both worlds.

Re: 50 Reasons Why Skyrim is the Best Elder Scrolls Game Eve
Not to sound rude, but can someone tell me why Morrowind is worth even playing? I heard the Lore was good but I need more than lore to get me hooked to a game. People say it feels unique but the awful combat, graphics, and sounds pretty much ruined that for me. I got about a quarter of the way through the story and I have found nothing redeemable about the game. Other than the music. That's good (:

What I like about it how real is a sense of reality in it and lack of hand holding. No idiot arrow saying quest object here, you worked to find that cave. the no fast travel could annoy some because you weren't where you wanted to be in 10 seconds but it felt more earned than click here. They would literally give you turn at the burnt tree directions. Barring looking it up online strap on your boots and start looking. You could get close with boats and stuff but you had to use your feet. This meant you never knew what you were going to find. There was no leveling, you had no idea if it was gonna be a cake walk or you were gonna get bent over. The quests also needed more creative thinking to solve and weren't so easy to solve. There are 26 threads of the webspinner out there. Where? I dunno, go find them. I spent hours wandering morrowind excited becauase I never knew what was behind the next rock. Once you get high level self enchanted gear in skyrim you don't even need to loot bodies most of the time because you KNOW they cannot have that could even come close to your gear. I like skyrim don't get me wrong, I'm just saying morrowind is rewarding in it's own way.
