Re: Muppets vs. Ponies
It's impossible for me to understand why a program made for seven year old girls about annoyingly high pitched animated ponies is such a hit with teenage boys. I believe this is what the Mayans' really meant when they where banging on about the end of the world... all the guys across the globe losing their genitals one after another.
It's like I opened the wrong door somewhere down the line and ended up in the bloody twilight zone.

Re: Muppets vs. Ponies
With that logic, the apocalypse would have happened long ago, as there are adult mature people who are fond of doing 'stupid' thing such as collecting of trivial things, or ship modelling, or playing with toy trains.
I am under a lot of stress during study week (plus I have a part-time job), and things such as playing a little on my computer and watching twenty minute of ponies every Saturday really help me to ease off my mind.
I like cartoons in general, as, I am sure are many other people. This is not going to end the world, and making jokes about it is not too good because there are a lot of awful things on our planet that can actually cause the end the world in reality.
You should not judge people for having innocent hobbies.

In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
But why bounce around to the same damn song?
You'd rather run when you can't crawl...

Re: Muppets vs. Ponies
I'm obviously not being serious luv, and joking about the end of the world really not that big of a deal. If it happens it happens, it's not like we would ever know... seeming the world would have just ended. We spent weeks ripping that nutter who kept saying we where all going to be judged by God last year.
I don't think banter translates well... must be a cultural thing. Best to not take my opinions on non-serious discussions seriously, or you will probably start to hate me.

As a general rule of thumb, the cute ones are allowed to have innocent hobbies.Norroen Dyrd wrote:With that logic, the apocalypse would have happened long ago, as there are adult mature people who are fond of doing 'stupid' thing such as collecting of trivial things, or ship modelling, or playing with toy trains.
It's better to relax watching cartoons than getting drunk into a stupor.

Re: Muppets vs. Ponies
Perhaps it is not infrequent that I come across people hating - most vehemently - the most trivial things.
Good to know that at least you are joking.
Just for the record, I have no problem understanding the humour of the people who teach me and belong to your culture (one is British, two others American). Same goes for the humour of my compatriots, at least those of them whom I mingle with on daily basis.
You were so expressive that it sounded more like airing out your negative emotions. I do hope you were speaking good-naturedly, rather than in bitter irritation.
@Gideon: *sigh* Next time I will be planning on getting a hobby, I will have to check it with you whether you consider me a cute one or not.

Ponies are why I have Avatars turned off. It is the only way I could (can) take some members seriously. I like to (try to) go beyond first impressions and appearance.
The internet is just faceless people behind a computer screen. People (should) try to use their Avatars, Signatures, and even usernames, to identify themselves... but you have to step back once in a while, and ask: What does this say about me. I get it, on a fan boy/girl site... wave your flags and show your colors...
but don't blame me if I can not take you serious in a religious/politicial (serious) discussion... when your face is a pony... or any other silly cartoon/movie character. [/grouchy old dude]
I shall concede. I see avatars and signatures as flags of convenience— a tag to single out a previously-made impression. I fear that others see the avatar/sig thingy as their definative identity on the forum. I'll tell you this: it's not.
Talk.
Just talk. We'll sort it the rest of you out from the words you leave behind forever.

Re: Muppets vs. Ponies
Precisely why I don't change my avatar (except for this one exception)...or care for it, much. I can be silly with my words, but I think you find out more about me by how I act on the forum and treat others on it.
But, that is a little off topic...and we could discuss that in the avatars and signatures thread.

The Muppets, layeth the smack down on MLP. When I was a kid my next door neighbour and me used to kidnapp his sister's MLP collection and take them to the Action Force (GI Joe to you Seps)/Star Wars torture dungeon. Still love the smell of burning plastic in the morning. Have to say do regret that we mangled the limited edition Yak Face figure, turned out to be worth £1500 10 years later or so.

Re: Muppets vs. Ponies
I started watching The Muppets today, and they immediately got a respect point boost from me.
Not only because they are generally respect-worthy, but also because of a funny coincidence.
When I was at school used to love this fan-made video for Harry Potter. And hardly had I started watching the first episode of the first season of The Muppets, when I recognized the old and familiar tune.

Are we including Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock, both of which are technically Muppets or just Kermit and Co?

The Muppets are my winners. I got bored with the chubby little pastel ponies decades ago.
