Magic Kill Cams, Bug?

Post by Trelares »

Today I experienced two times something like a bug with the "new" killcams. I used thunderbolt at mudcrabs, and got the killcam two times although I missed the crabs...
Somebody else had this?

Two failures— against how many successes?
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

The problem is that the time still passes on while you are in kill cam, so against a mudcrab this is not really bad but think of a more dangerous foe.

Try it against something more powerful. If you get the same result then it's a major "booboo"

Did you dual-wield? If you shot two lightning bolts at once, maybe they programmed the cams to trigger separately.

No it was a dual cast. I missed the crab, tried again, got kill cam killed it. And had the same thing on another one. The cam triggers if you miss...

Let me see if I understand this, the cam actives even when it does not actually kill, instead overriding the player's control of the game to show them their attack fly past their foe, missing? That is unfortunate, and could be a serious issue against more dangerous foes as you say. A loss of control against a foe that is still live and kicking, could be fatal, and not for the kill cam-ee

You got it right duruza, then the kill cam, changes to a deadth cam. Think of a giant near you, you miss him, he punches you directly in the face, slow motion launch into the stratosphere^^.

Does this only happen when they're at low health, or can it happen anytime?

I've had that happen a few times with my mage, too. Either I missed because something was blocking my way, or, something just as bad, the spell hit but didn't kill the enemy yet. Not really nice to happen when you are a fragile mage with little health and that Draugr Something continues running towards you while you are in kill cam mode.

I haven't had that happening BUT I do have encountered another bug several times. After it shows the killcam and goes back to my characters POV, I sometimes can't cast magic. I smash the attack buttons but nothing happens. Going away and back from attack mode fixes it but it's still annoying.

Perhaps they've done it as in Fallout 3 + New vegas, where your damage tolerance is greatly increased while the shoot/killcam is on. I think it's a stupid invention either way; it looks great sometimes but can be really distracting when fighting more than one enemy. I want to disable it, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that?

Can happen anytime if the spell can kill the target, had it at mudcrabs with full health.

There is a bit more to it too. Something similar also happens with bows. ...but with a twist. Since the 1.5 patch, I have seen more arrows pass thru the targets on a dead center chest shot.., and a few times i would get the kill cam for a bow shot, dead center in the chest:
- I get the Kill Cam animation
- I see them drop with the green paralysis glow
- The health bar shows no loss of health
- They get back up after the paralysis wears off

I have do no use magic that much, so can not say from that perspective. I have yet to see a magic Kill Cam.

This could be one of the biggest farces in the history of Elder Scrolls, if this is true.

This worries me now. How can they get it buggy for rangers and mages but works for warriors? Do they test anything on their end anymore?

There was extensive testing, but things always go wrong.

Hopefully they fix it. I wonder if you can get the same from runes. Now I'm even more terrified of Draugr deathlords.

Given that those killcams fail to kill the enemy quite often (I'd say at least in 1 out of 4 times) and also stop you from casting spells afterwards more often than not, I have serious doubts that they did extensive testing. More like a "I got a killcam for my magic attack! Works! Done!"

Testing only can find bugs but you can't verify that no bugs are in a software with testing^^.

I think ther is mach mor difrence in attack in Oblivion and Skyrim.
In skyrim actual hit is priduced in difrent way, i notice that some time i get hit from enemy frst and then he swing weapon on me, and for me i frst swing and then whit some diley i actualy demage it.
Idk whay this is done so, but it may be the reson of strenge behavior.
Now my blind eyes see what others cannot!

Just out of curiosity, this is still the Beta release you're playing with isn't it Trelares? So they should fix this before they release to consoles and '-re-release' to PC.

No duruza this is the live release of 1.5.0.24 or so, I don't have subscribed to beta due to my modding. Beta would maybe mess this up heavily^^.

1.5 is not in Beta anymore, it was released last week (for PC), it was only in beta for about a week... so unless you have auto-update turn off, you may have patch 1.5 Trelares?
