Leveling Unarmored?

I'm using full Orcish Armor (except for the Daedric Greaves I'm wearing) but for some reason my Unarmored skill is increasing, why would this be?

I checked the unarmored page but it didn't seem to mention this so I'm unsure what's going on.

Are you missing a piece of armour? like a helmet or bracer perhaps? On a lot of my characters I don't wear helmets because I like being able to see my face and hair... this still levels up your unarmoured skill.

If not, then I'm not really to sure why it's happening.

You're probably not wearing a shield. I can't find the thread I read but it said that not wearing a shield raises your Unarmored skill. I'm not sure if it's true or not but worth testing it.

If that's the case then that's almost definitely the problem, I'm purposely avoiding leveling the block skill atm.

Fixed in unofficial patch, perhaps?

I just found a few posts on other threads on different forums that mentioned unarmoured being raised if you don't wear a shield. This is actually news to me...
I always thought it was just because of the lack of helms I wore, but I guess a shield counts as a required armour piece to(something a lot of my characters don't wear).

I don't think the unofficial patch or the code patch changes this(I had a quick gander at the fix list), although I could be wrong.

I'm having the same "issue" (not really an issue), except I'm wearing every piece of armor, greaves, shield, bracers, boots, helmet, you name it.

I've been a Morrowind player for ten years and this is the first I ever heard of the shield thing, but it explains why my characters who use greatswords, bows, warhammers or battle axes level unarmored sometimes. Not often, though.

I'd assumed this was sequiter, considering that your shield contributes to your total AR. Unfortunately, I can basically confirm the Unofficial Patch doesn't change this, although I may have missed it.

There's a bit of a catch twenty-two here, you either 'risk' training Unarmoured or Block. Perhaps, a 'solution' might be to wear a Shield, but to also drain your Block skill significantly, even to 0, meaning that you wont be blocking enemy attacks and therefore wont be training Block as a skill nearly as much.

You know you can wear a shield despite using a two-handed weapon? It will be marked as equipped in your inventory screen but won't be shown on your character as long as you take out your two-handed weapon. It won't raise your Block skill and Unarmored skill(if you're wearing full armor set). You can also enchant the shield and still benefit from the enchantment(only tested constant effect enchants).

Interesting, I thought that it still contributed to being able to Block, but I must admit I'd never really given it much thought. We may have the solution then!
