Smithing. What's the new "iron dagger"?

Post by Daemos Avetorii »

Prior to patch 1.5. One could get smithing skill up fast with iron daggers.
The patch slowed this down. I recall I read something about the speed of the increase being relevant to the cost of the armor/weapon made.
So wich iron item is the new "iron dagger" ie most efficient/cheapest to quickly gain smithing skill with?

Weapon improvement is the new iron dagger, if you use the restoration improvement exploit. When you can enchant armor with fifty milion percent better smithing, your smithing skill goes straight to 100 after improving one weapon. Same goes for enchantment and potion making.

It's probably still iron daggers.

But I am SOOO glad that patch included that feature, definitely important to have.

I actually don't see the exploit on the list. If you equip enchanted armor while under the influence of an improved restoration potion, the effects of the enchantment will be improved by the same percentage. So if you have equipment with improved potions, you can create a cycle where every potion of restoration/enchantment will be better than the last until you can make equipment with an alchemy increase of millions of percent. That increase will then translate over to your enchantment skill via potion of enchantment and voila, you can make a pair of fur boots that give you perfect armor class.

As strange as that sounds. Really how effective can fur be as armor?

The Restoration exploit is based upon the fact that Enchantments are all under the Restoration school so benefit from Restoration potions BUT the item enhancement value is only calculated when the item is put on. So:
1) create your 4 items of Alchemy
2) create a fortify Restoration Potion
3) drink it
4) remove your items, immediately put them back on and their value has increased.
5) Go back to 2 and repeat till bored.
6) Then finally create a Fortify Smithing potion of silly value

That's the one. The effect also stacks between different potions. So say you have one each of the 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% standard vendor potions of restoration, if you drink them in ascending order, you will end up with about 54% instead of 40%. If you drink two of the same ones, though, it will negate the stacking effect.

Edit: Wow my math sucks.

yeah my sword is at 301 and that's like a death stick and i could probably double that if i studied alchemy. to refer back to the original question if value is considered maybe enchant a weapon before you smith it? enchanting increases it's value. I'm sure the community is already working on this question. Plus enchanting before smithing is a better idea anyways because enchanting sometimes nullifies the armor value increase. or some higher caliber dagger like ebony or something being the new spammer.
I would be a procrastinator, but I keep putting it off.

I never understand Smithing. It have no sence that this skill level faster then armor skill, in frst pleace it render armor skill bonuses almost usles.
I will realy like to see beter way this skill level in the way its actualy something beter then just smithing iron dagers and use exploits.
If you ask me this skill shuld be like radiant quest staged so wen you for example do some staff for the smith then smith teach you some skills and wen you finis it he send you to other mor skilled smith whit recomendation so you have some progres and game play rather then just baying materials and smith dagers up to level 100 smithing and then get overpowered.
In present state of this skill, you just enter the town and bay materials, smith 30 dagers to level smiting and sell them and then check if it incrise inaf so you can aditionaly incrise your own armor, but agen is usles to think like that wen you can just exploit potion and enchantments.
Now my blind eyes see what others cannot!

It doesn't render them useless, with 100 Smithing and 100 Heavy Armor and Ebony or better armor, you can EASILY hit the maximum armor rating for each piece of equipment.
