Perhaps a time scale inbetween quests? say you return to Savros with the news of saarthal (dunno how to do spoilers so will just be vague) and he tells you he needs to think about it? or whatever?

I agree actually, being "THE CHOSEN ONE" is pretty cheesy in most games these days and it actually implies a lesser control of your own destiny, rather than something you choose to do through your own will.Abel wrote:I find it very annoying that you HAVE to become a guild leader/listener/arch-mage/... after you completed the questline. I just want to be a nobody.
In fact, this is what annoys me about Skyrim in general; the whole Dragonborn thingy. It was cooler when you were just a random prisoner (like in Oblivion).
IMO the Thieves' Guild was probably the best questline, but at the same time I still had complaints about it. As with every other guild, most other guildmembers barely existed. The radiant quests, while better than other guilds', are still way too basic and simplistic. It's short (as every guild is).
In the end I think my biggest complaint for the Thieves' Guild was that it didn't feel like my story. I came in there led by Brynjolf, who I felt like I kinda got to know better than everyone else, and some angry sounding [censored] named Mercer(relation to main character of Prototype? O_o) started threatening me and I mostly just rolled my eyes and went along with it. I liked their story but it really never had anything to do with me, they even claim it happened 25 years ago. They kept setting up Mercer as some kind of extremely-skilled badass, but except for the fact that they kept shoving it in my face with dialogue and stupid events that I have no control over (Mercer easily picking unpickable locks and trying to play it off as being easy, getting shot with an arrow you aren't allowed to avoid dipped in a poison that allegedly takes a year to make and it's spent in a single shot) made me barely want to take part. In the end Karliah or Brynjolf should have been guildmaster, this was never my story and I know so little of the guild. The deal with Nocturnal seemed pretty stupid as well, selling their souls so they get vague, poorly-defined luck? At least the armor was awesome.
Another complaint is that unlocking and upgrading the fences takes way too long, I've got tens of thousands of gold worth of stolen loot by the time I've unlocked the 3rd fence... kinda defeats the purpose of the whole 'thief' thing.

I found that apart from his accent Brynjolf had very little personality.

Yeah the short guilds gave little time to really develop.

I found that Brynjolf had more personality than anyone connected to any guild in the entire game. :*(Sidgreen wrote:I found that apart from his accent Brynjolf had very little personality.

I found him to have very little opinion other then what you would expect of a thief. He didn't seem very interested in much and had no qualms about suddenly becoming part of the twilight sepulcher

The College of Winterhold was actually an interesting questline.
But, like Mass Effect 3, the ending was sort of....meh.

One thing I do miss from the quests in Morrowind is having to get my skills up to certain levels before you were allowed to continue, the quests in Skyrim would last a lot longer this way especially with the CoW questline, the first time i finished it, Flames was the best Destruction spell i had and even then I rarely used it

I have to agree Victoria, in Morrowind, the Guilds felt more authentic and natural in that it felt that you were being promoted on your own merit, ability and skill, not because you were the 'chosen one'. There were also a lot more quests focusing on minor day-to-day jobs, and a lot more internal politics within the Factions, for example, the Mages Guild. I guess that the College and Thieves Guild are the most similar in this regard, and subsequently, are my favourites in Skyrim.

I don't so much miss skill requirements, but I certainly don't like how you just get to zip right up to the top after three days on the job.

Yeah, that was an issue I certainly felt with the Companions, although I generally stop prior to joining the Circle, and only follow the Radiant Story quests to give the semblance of being part of the Guild and doing everyday work there.
The Fighters Guild in Oblivion gave a more natural sense of progression though, you had jobs from Anvil and Cheydinhal, and then you had more story-orientated quests from Modryn in Chorrol. The mix there was good because you had to work to progress through the story, remembering that work is the reason people join Guilds in the first place, and that the Guilds exist to provide a service.
