Re: Favorite Armor type?
I started with a preference for light armor as my basic play-style is stealth-archer. However, as I fine tune my use of perks strategy it seems more efficient to follow the left side of the heavy armor perks where you get weightless armor fairly easily. I will then mix and match armor types to fit my character.
My second character is a Nord and the Foresworn armor looks pretty barbaric in a good way. This is my free-form charachter. Right now he is sporting the ragged pants as his armor with dragon plate gloves and boots. Looks formidable traipsing around using a Daedric Greatsword. I used the restoration potion boost to get high smithing protection on the armor so the loss of armor protection with the pants does not leave him vulnerable.

I had Lydia in a suit of Steel Plate Armor for quite a while. True, it did get a bit distracting in the midst of combat.Jagged wrote:Difficult question. Re: Favorite Armor type?
I prefer light armor myself, always have! Good to see its more popular in Skyrim than it was in Oblivion. I just wish there were more variants for each level/type of armor, a few more nordic fur type armors would have been nice something along the lines of the Stromcloak officers armor.
I like the Elven armor the most for a female character and on a male I would tend to lean towards horned scaled armor, but I usually mix and match sets to get the look I like, rarely do I actually go based on stats.

I love horned scaled armor. Unfortunately, I have yet to make a character to both look right in it and reach a high enough level.

Re: Favorite Armor type?
I have to give another vote to Light Armour, as it has generally always been my favourite armour type. I like a more roguish fighting style, with speed and mobility and the ability to hit hard (which requires more Stamina in Skyrim) being essential to this style. I'd rather down an enemy quickly, than be able to absorb a large beating and then win the war of attrition against them.

Light. Not much to say about it.
Heavy is just... well, too heavy, and offers a little bit more protection points, doesn't go well with sneak... etc.

I don't always use armor, but when I do, I use light armor.
Meaning I usually prefer to go without armor, but will use light armor if I do ever use armor. :| Just in case I needed to clarify.

Kinda looks like the pointy Morrowind style, I think. You'd have thought Oblivion would have had the best design though, since half of that game was set in the place where all the armour comes from.Gideon Dragontongue wrote:They are, too. Daedric is wicked looking, could not have been done better in my opinion.
My character is a bit odd in that he uses both types of armour. The body slot is taken up with Master Robes of Destruction, but he wears Dragonscale gauntlets and boots and a heavy Dragon Priest mask. So both armour skills are sitting at around 50. I don't know what most of the full armour sets look like because I've never worn them, but 150% magicka regen is too good to pass up for that.

I usually use light armor, because it just looks more awesome. Although I'm going unarmored on my current Mage build, and I plan to enchant som chefs clothing for my uber Mage gear at some point.

Re: Favorite Armor type?
Heavy armor, I don't exactly have an aptitude dodging or blocking so I prefer the extra protection. The only time I use light armor is when I create a character who sneaks; as it is more compatible with sneak. Heavy armor is also much more efficient when using Two-handed weapons. I have a character who uses both two-handed weapons and light armor, it doesn't work out well, even when spending perk points in block.

I like Light Armor, I'm an assassin in general, so I don't need the protection, but do need the stealth capabilities.

Yeah, but their patriotic flare seems to be reserved for light armor and specifically Nordic heavy armors. They often say disparaging things about Elven. Their reaction to the Mace of Molag Bal is also amusing. Will Zurmacht wrote:Heavy: Ebony, particularly the feminine model.

Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Nah, they're reaction to my Argonian decked out in legendary (and by that I mean unfairly smithed) Dragonplate, I know not very original really, but still I think its the best set Bethesda has yet to make. And the idea of the armor is just as cool, wearing the bones of your defeated enemy's.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:

Nothing screams out Dovahkhiin more than that set, and If I had to make a list It would go after Dp, Blades (always a classic, and the Samurai Look is always a favorite), Legion Heavy Armor, Steelplate, and Ancient Nord.
I really love the sets in this game, but I feel some of the heavy sets are very 'random' lore wise. I mean we can wear the armor of the Falmer, and Draugr, but don't get access to a heavy Stormcloak set, or a new nordic heavy armor, like the one in Bloodmoon, worn by the Skaal Leader.

Unarmored
Between Flesh spells, Wards and Healing almost every character can hope to survive wearing no armor at all. Also the added mobility and stamina conservation are great if you play keeping this in mind. On one playtrough I went Reguard, dual-wield and alteration. The great stamina regen kept me powerattacking like a mad man and dodging attacks due to my mobility. The only problem is that you have to keep an eye on the duration of the Flesh spells until you unlock the appropriate perks. Also the added benefit is that I can wear normal clothes and not those strange armors of which I dont like the look.

You don't use the Mage Armour Perks then? The Tom wrote:My character is a bit odd in that he uses both types of armour. I still have my Master Robes of Destruction for sentimental reasons. But I would not be surprised if you swap yours out soon. By the time the game offers you such nice robes you must be getting near to enchanting +25% Destruction Fortification. And free unlimited Destruction magic is just too tempting to pass

Re: Favorite Armor type?
Light armor seems to be the armor that fits most characters. Many warriors want to choose it because they can still be fairly fast while dishing out a lot of damage, and thieves and archers would prefer because they'd want to have at least some armor while they're sneaking about. When I play a spell-caster, I tend to use light armor as well. So light armor seems to be the "universal armor" for a lot of character types.

Seems to me that any armour you think looks good can be made to work. I happen to really like the look of the Nightingale harness. I've made full dragonscale and it works out to about 6x the effective armour cap - but I don't really like the way it looks and the Nightingale is over the AC cap for me too...

im not really one type over the other, rather i prefer to wear one of two types of armor, daedric or dragonscale. I love both of these types of armor and i usually wear like fur or something until i can make those two types.

Re: Favorite Armor type?
Even though it doesn't bother me as much as before, any one still some what upset they can't really customize the armor that much any more?
I mean I can appreciate the fact that they made armors, just upper body and lower legs, to allow more space for boots and gauntlets to effectively cover the limbs more with out clashing too much with the armor, but still some of the armors could really go together quite nicely.

Heavy armor. At high levels there is no meaningful difference beyond appearance. But at low levels I found the higher armor rating from heavy a much bigger boost to survival than the being faster benefit from light armor. But I do fight with blades and stuff so maybe that colors my perception. But hey it's how I roll.

Light armour. Call me what you want but there is nothing like running away from 3 Draugr Death lords, closing the gate, and still have 50% stamina left. But really, I like being light and flexible, more options in fights, run away, catch your breath, then go back in the fight to take them out.
