Spellsword. I always like to play that mix between Warriors and Mages in fantasy RPGs whenever I can.
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Assassin Mage. I like stealth and magic, so I combine the two. I don't steal though, I'm no common thief.
I use robes and a hood, my assortment of weapons includes Iron daggers for close range assassinations, bows for long range assassinations, and Illusion magic. I also dabble in conjuration and destruction just in case I come upon a fight I can't sneak past.
Spells:
Calming and Angering Illusion spells.
Summoning Fire and Ice Daedra.
Ice Destruction magic.

I love playing as a subcategory of Mage -- a witch! I use Conjuration, Illusion, Restoration, and a bit of Alteration and Destruction. Enchanting is a big part of it. (Some characters use Alchemy)

Mage is lots of fun but most of my higher level characters in all the Elder Scrolls games have been armored melee specialists of some type.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

For me, it's much funner going all-melee. Nothing like watching my sword decapitate someone, or drive right through their chest.

Assassin. Arrows and daggers are my favorite. I dual wield swords, and daggers. Let's not forget poison, just for a good measure. Quiet in, quiet out.
What you can't see can kill you.
Re: Your favorite playstyle
Generally I play with a mix of thief, assassin, archer & spellsword focusing on destruction spells. Currently character is pure mage with a bit of stealth, although he is on sabtical at moment as I am playing Mass Effect series at moment.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
I pretty much always tend to go with the assassin/thief types. I guess it's because of my long history with Thief, Splinter Cell and the like. I just love being stealthy. I never created a straightforward fighter in Oblivion, nor a full mage (I did have a battlemage though). IMO the magic was underpowered and tedious.
However, in Skyrim I have fell in love with my mage. The magic is great fun and can be really interesting when you combine the different schools of magic... though now I'm actually in the verge of upping the difficulty cause it has almost become too easy
. Still, I'm having a blast with my altmer. I also want to create a straighforward warrior as my next character. It seems like the different kind of characters are just so much better handled in Skyrim.
I still gave my vote to assassin/thief cause that's the way I usually roll.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
Stealth mode and Legendary Daedric bow in hand, that's how I start doing the killing, shooting arrows from the shadows. In this case I would also place a rune before starting to shoot so that if the enemies come towards me and it's lots of them, the first one, at least, gets blown up. If I have the chance, I can also go and cut my target's throat with a dagger after casting Muffle and (if I really need to) Invisibility on myself. But when the battles gets serious it's Legendary Daedric sword in one hand and spell in the other. If the enemy is a tough one, I summon a Lord Dremora, otherwise I don't bother. At first I used to cast a Shield spell, but after smithing my Dragonscale armour to the armour cap, I don't anymore.

In Oblivion I almost always played a spellsword but in Skyrim I've had most fun with my Nord Two Handed/light armour. I just love going around one hitting every enemy, I think the kill cams make a big difference.

Mixed (that means everything).
You can't complete Companions questline with a Mage, can you? ... Well, you can, but it's just... wrong.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
I find that too. I do play a spellsword - one hand fire spell, other hand enchanted Ebony sword - but I find that I don't want to use magic to finish off most enemies because there are no kill cams for magic. Not yet anyway, the new patch will add them in I think. The other thing is that most spells do about half the damage of my sword unless dual cast, and then they use too much magicka, so they're really only good for softening up enemies until they get close so I can behead them.General Grumble wrote:In Oblivion I almost always played a spellsword but in Skyrim I've had most fun with my Nord Two Handed/light armour. Re: Your favorite playstyle
My second character is a mage and he joined the Companions XD. I explained it via roleplaying. He doesn't approve the sour attitude magic tends to get and wanted to show those "uneducated barbarians" that magic is just as valid fighting technique and gets the work done better than they do. LoL. He's pretty much there just to show off and mostly refuses to do things like they "should be done".Black Thunder wrote: You can't complete Companions questline with a Mage, can you? ... In reality it was because I didn't join them with my first character and wanted to check them out

Re: Your favorite playstyle
Warrior is pretty cool in 3rd person. Assassin yields the 2 best questlines and can potentially be the most fun. Mage is pretty fun until you get Impact. Then it loses all the fun it previously had due to the fact nobody can reach you.

I'm playing a pure mage at the moment and it's so much harder. Especially when you move up to the higher level destruction spells I've killed so many followers that way. And despite my best efforts not to use any weapons my one handed skill is still up at around 26 and I'm only level 22The Tom wrote:I find that too. Re: Your favorite playstyle
My favorite play-style, in Skyrim so far has been as a "Sword and board" warrior. My first character was an Argonian thief and it was fun, but the constant sneaking made things progress very slowly. Second I created a pure mage character, also fun. Lastly I went the warrior route and he has been the most fun. The in your face combat makes all the battles a little more visceral and personal. When I finally was able to max out my skill with shield charge/block runner it really makes you feel like you are a BEAST. Bowling over people adds a little comedy to every battle. As a Breton warrior I was able to reach the damage/magic reduction cap very quickly so now I just run headlong into the fray (shield first) and watch the rag doll physics lay my enemies at my feet where I bludgeon them to death with my mace. The ability to "charge" into battle and stand toe-toe with absolutely anybody is great! The dungeons become less of a crawl and more of a brawl.
I can't argue with anyone for finding joy in the more tactical play-styles, I did those, I liked it too.
Also as a previous post eluded to, third person is actually really fun in this game.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
After I got my Destruction up to 90, spells cost so little to cast that it was much more practical. But then the issue was that I was too focused on a offense, and I was taking too much damage. Now I use Restoration and One-Handed primarily, particularly because my Destruction Master Ritual quest was bugged. The Tom wrote: I do play a spellsword - one hand fire spell, other hand enchanted Ebony sword - but I find that I don't want to use magic to finish off most enemies because there are no kill cams for magic. I do everything Skyrim has to offer, so I chose mix.
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
But why bounce around to the same damn song?
You'd rather run when you can't crawl...
