Re: Mass Effect
Sentinel is interesting, as well. But why Adepts are useless in ME2? I can understand about the Engineer since there aren't many Geth in ME2 but can't understand your opinion regarding Adepts.

Re: Mass Effect
The Adept is only useless if you play on the higher difficulties when everything has some kind of defence. It's actually not as bad as the Engie as the main story arc probably has more barriers than sbields, but against opponents like geth and the Blue Suns you will be powerless if your anti-shield swuad members go down. Also powers are too risky to rely on contantly and rather dull if your only tactic is to spam Warp/Overload. Basically you should be fine with the Engies/Adepts on Veteran or lower but on higher difficulties you would probably be best with Soldier or Infiltrator.

Re: Mass Effect
I play Soldier because a certain person who whispers to dogs told me that was the best way to play for a beginner. Somehow I ended up playing the same Shepard in all three games. I may go back and replay them sometime as my exact opposite - that is to say, as a Renegade Vanguard FemShep.

Vanguard in two is brilliant fun, but if you're an idiot that picks one on a Hardcore difficulty playthrough you'll be kicking yourself very quickly.

Re: Mass Effect
So I just finished Mass Effect 3 last night, and I thought it was absolutely incredible. Sure, EA can be beat, but you shouldn't let that take away from an experience such as this. I've loved the Mass Effect series almost as much as I love the Elder Scrolls.
Fun Fact: The guy who voiced Commander Bailey of C-Sec in Mass Effect 2 and 3 also voiced General Tullius in Skyrim AND Doc Mitchell in New Vegas.

Re: Mass Effect
My first playthrough of Mass Effect was using soldier, I found it meant that I couldn't open most of the locked containers and doors. I switched to Infiltrator for my second and even though the benefits aren't that great in ME2 & ME3, I have stuck with it as it suits how I play.
at the moment I think the best thing in ME3 is the flashlight, really liked the areas where you get to use it. I would have liked to see a whole area with no lighting just flashlight, maybe with very few enemies but have them randomly spawn and keep the Bioware fighting music going the wholetime to keep you on edge.

@Veck: I don't worry about Insanity playthroughs so that shouldn't be a problem.

Hardcore (and Veteran? I can't remember) playthroughs have the same problem though, as every enemy has outward protection.

Yeah, Michael Hogan I think his name is. I've never kept up with that show, I'd watch an episode and then just not follow up on it. I always meant to though.Dark Lord Cam wrote:It's the guy From Battlestar Galactica. Reinforcing belief that the ending is Reaper indoctrination. Will not listen to any other theory.

Okay, there is simply NO WAY to get 4000 in ems without multiplayer
F you very much for the lie bioware. You most certainly do have to play MP for the best ending.

Re: Mass Effect
Yes and no. I took an instant dislike to Miranda which I have justified. I feel that her later conduct in ME2 confirms that my initial response was the correct one. I think she is a successful character because she created a response from me.Dark Lord Cam wrote:So you're judging a character based upon superficial characteristics?Stormborn wrote:She has a superior attitude, an australian accent and a gap in her front teath, it was enough for me to take an instant dislike, nothing in the game changed my original opinion of her.Dark Lord Cam wrote:I thought Miranda was a fairly complex character. No. It is entirely possible to get more than 4000 EMS. You just have to work really hard to get the best ending. Which is as it should be. I got 5900+ on my first play through.born2beagator wrote:Okay, there is simply NO WAY to get 4000 in ems without multiplayer

Re: Mass Effect
Oh! Another important question, since I'm still not sure if I should bother with this yet, or just put it on hold. How's the mouse control? Do they force mouse acceleration on you?
ME1 wasn't too bad, but ME2's control KILLED the game. I couldn't even play it for weeks, the mouse-feel was so bad. I know the community eventually released some unofficial hacks that made the game, if not exactly easy to control, at least acceptable, but since the name of the game for major devs these days is: console! Port! Mouse acceleration! ... ? Profit?, I'd like to know before hand whether the game is playable yet.

Re: Mass Effect
The controls feel responsive to me, and I've played twitch shooters so I know what a lack of mouse acceleration feels like. I'm pretty sure there isn't even gamepad support, which some people were upset about, but it doesn't bother me.

Re: Mass Effect
Then you are the only one I have seen. 5900 without?? I have done an extremely meticulous playthrough through all 3 games and I ended up with around 3800. Unless you are playing on PC and can edit the game, 5900 at 50% readiness means you had 11800 in war assets which not possible.Dark Lord Cam wrote:Not true. It is entirely possible. I did it.

Oh I see. You're talking about the effective strength after the assets, Ha. Yeah, it still doesn't matter. As long as you've got around 5k to 6k in war assets, you can get the best ending.

Re: Mass Effect
I don't suppose there's a way to decrease Reaper Awareness in a system, is there? I crap myself a little whenever they make that horrifying noise and it happens every time I go back into the system with the Mass Relay and try to exit. They always catch me before I can hit the button.

You have to have 4000 effective military strength and
Spoiler:
and Tom, the only way to decrease reaper awareness is to complete a mission. You could always cheat by saving just before doing a scan, scan the whole system to see where things are, then reload and go get them
PS: What happens when a Reaper catches you? Is there a cutscene of the normandy getting destroyed? I have not been caught by one so far.
