Would you have wanted skyrim to be Multiplayer?
I would have adamantly said no before a few days ago. But now I realized it would be fun to run around skyrim with a living person rather than " I am sworn to carry your burdens...".
How about you? If so, is it for RP value? Pure nonsense or just someone to help with those ancient dragons?
If not, is it just too wrong for TES? Do you play this so you don't have to deal with multiplayer?
Lastly online or console? Would you want it to be mandatory over live or the internet?

Local multiplayer with splitscreen, for example, would kill a game like this. If that was the only option I'd say no.

Yeah but only online would also kill. What about the ones who don't care for online play or can't even connect because of whatever their problems is?
If multiplayer was an option they should make for both online and local. But with adjustments.

I can't connect, so I know for me at least it wouldn't bother me that much. I also can't get DLC because bethesda never releases it on hard copies, but I make do.
I know for xbox you can connect two consoles so that could work. But idk for ps3 I don't have one.

I would like to have and online co-op that allows a second player to import his character (without having any Shouts, there can only be one Dovahkiin) in your main game.

Re: Would you have wanted skyrim to be Multiplayer?
Nope. I'm a lone wolf in my TES games. I admit, it would be entertaining, but this topic comes up all the time, and mods attempt it, but I just don't find it appealing. It's too flexible and big a world for that, I think. What if I want to go sit in a meadow and pick flowers for potions and my co-pilot wants to go bash in falmer skulls? Besides, they'd probably just get in my way, like my companions. No thank you!

Re: Would you have wanted skyrim to be Multiplayer?
Well I was hoping it would let you and your co-pilot go as far away from each other as you like. I would do it for RP value as well. But I wouldn't want there to be a TES MMO! -_-Avron the S'wit wrote:Nope. I'm a lone wolf in my TES games. Re: Would you have wanted skyrim to be Multiplayer?
If you two are just doing your own thing, what's the point? Then it's just an MMO, which is not what you want. If you're going to play a game with someone but basically just do a single player game style, I think that defeats the whole "multiplayer" thing, no?

Re: Would you have wanted skyrim to be Multiplayer?
No. Not just because that would ruin the feel for the game (very few people allow followers to go with them, let alone other human beings), not just because Bethesda has very little experience in the multiplayer department, not just because it would make the game much buggier than it already was, but... actually, those were my reasons for not supporting this. If you want a multiplayer TES game, either get Battlespire, a mod, or wait for the MMO.
That would make it even worse. Why bother exploring Skyrim together if you're not actually going to be near one another? I can understand wandering around a city while the other takes care of trade or something, but hanging out in Riften while you're in Solitude? The only merit of that suggestion would be if you like having someone messing up your game.Hissien wrote:Well I was hoping it would let you and your co-pilot go as far away from each other as you like. Re: Would you have wanted skyrim to be Multiplayer?
The problem with any kind of multiplayer (as I see it) is that it would introduce "balance" requirements
Suddenly people start complaining that Spells don't do as much damage as Weapons or that Dual Wielding is overpowered. If the Developers listen then the whole game changes to a mobius strip of tweaks and changes. Better it remains a single-person game where the only concern is "Is It Cool?"

Re: Would you have wanted skyrim to be Multiplayer?
Allowing something is not the same as doing it. I could collect ingredients for my friend while they do something else. My thief friend could scout ahead while I trail behind with spells ready to attack. Or even I could collect quicksilver ore and my friend collect malachite to save time.
But it would be an optional feature no one would HAVE to do it, but it is there if they wanted to.

Definitely No for me. Skyrim is such a personal experience, and that's how it should remain.

Re: Would you have wanted skyrim to be Multiplayer?
Yes, no one would have to. It's just that it would change the rest of the game by being in it. Instead of seeing Bethesda regularly improving the game with new content and patches, we'd see item balances become one of the most common game updates.Hissien wrote:But it would be an optional feature no one would HAVE to do it, but it is there if they wanted to.
Reading through your ideas for how this would work, I'm starting to think this is an even worse idea then before. You either can have your partner play around and do his own thing, probably ruining your world in the process, or degrade him into essentially a rather intelligent AI partner. Skyrim was designed as a single player game, therefore they really don't have anything to do while they're playing besides helping you. Skyrim isn't a hard game, you don't really need help for much of it.

I'm kinda playing the Devil's Advocate here. I don't care for multiplayer and I wouldn't like it for a game like this.Hissien wrote:I can't connect, so I know for me at least it wouldn't bother me that much. I also can't get DLC because bethesda never releases it on hard copies, but I make do.

But IF something like this was going to happen then they should make some adjustments (which I don't know what they'll be or how they'd do it). Just wondering.

TES was created to be a single player game. Why fix what isn't broken?

Yes.
I think that it would be cool to dungeon delve with a fellow PC buffering me. It's better, at least, than the oh-so-annoying companions that stand in doorways and block you in rooms.

Generally speaking: NO! Ofcourse not! Elderscrolls is a single player thing
Yet: Some sort of like... measuring your strenght against your friends would be a fun feature. Like some sort of arena or something

Re: Would you have wanted skyrim to be Multiplayer?
I would love to see a new TES game - a spin-off from the main franchise - that is just for co-operative multiplayer.
I think the ancient Nord tombs in Skyrim would be really fun to do some co-operative "dungeon-delving" in. It could operate a bit like Left 4 Dead, with a small number of players working together to finish quests.

Yes: I would find it fun to delve a few ruins, caves, etc with another PC, could be some epic lolz as you shout them off cliff edges and blow each other up with AoE spells...
but,
No: I wouldn't have wanted Skyrim made with MP in mind as I am sure it would have been either unworkable on a practical level, or in some way mean sacrifices made to the single player experience...

Re: Would you have wanted skyrim to be Multiplayer?
Not in general, no. But sometimes, I can't help but think it would be fun to have a co-op mode for dungeon delving. And maybe a separate online component accessible from the main menu. Like an arena type of thing, where everyone starts as a level one, and battles and trains to get better and fight higher level people. Like one on one fights between two people.
