Re: Which player view do you use?
DarkSpark, thanks to your post, I can see where I went off the rails. I'm confusing the narrative point of view with the camera view. Although the two are related, they are different things and don't have to be identical at all times.
So, to answer the original question, I play in 1st-person view almost exclusively, resorting to 3rd-person mainly for locating objects that had the poor taste to become lost in tall foliage.

Re: Which player view do you use?
Like many people, I seem to switch off between cameras:
First person is the more commonly used one. I use it during nearly all fights, and I use it when inside buildings or dungeons, since it's slightly annoying to adjust the camera in third person when inside a cramped corridor.
Third person is used for exploring. If I'm outside and not fighting, or if I'm walking through a city, then I like to use third person to better show how my character is part of the environment. I also like third person for screen shots.

A mix of both. It depends where I am and what I am doing. In epic dragon battles I use first person to see my sword but when I am travelling I use third person.

In combat, I'll usually use 1st person, but otherwise, 3rd person. See Skyrim in all it's glory.

Basically, if I'm not in ranged combat or closely looking at something, I'm in third person.
Re: Which player view do you use?
I prefer first person as combat looks so vague in third person.

First person, it's hard to use a bow in third and it's easier to sneak in first, IMO.

I normally use third person, I like seeing where I'm going and what I'm wearing. But when looting I go first person.

Re: Which player view do you use?
I tried out some first person the other day. I find fighting in it really odd, although it does make the power attacks a lot cooler, since you see them from the first person view; but I don't like not being able to see who is surrounding me. It's pretty good for talking to people, too...maybe I will change to it for conversations.

3rd person for travel and Hand to Hand combat (including magic), 1st person for my Bow only.

Because of this thread I've gradually started using a mix

Re: Which player view do you use?
I use to be strictly first person. Now that I got Skyrim and the third person is actually... playable... I use 3rd person considerably more. Ive been practicing but am still having trouble aiming (sword an bow alike lol). But Im getting the hang of it. Especialy the directional power attacks. Those took some practice to do in 3rd person but now theyre pretty easy to land. 3rd person definetly has its benefits and the animations are waaaaay better than Oblivion or Fallout. My friend still says it looks stupid but, I think hes just crazy

First one, I don't see any sense to play TES game in the 3rd mode.

Re: Which player view do you use?
I thought I had already posted in this topic? Perhaps that was in Oblivion.
Anyway. I use both. First person is the most logical for me when fighting (I switch to third person every once in a while to see if there are more enemies nearby). When just traveling and walking around I like third person a whole lot, because I think I can see the most of the beautiful surroundings that is Skyrim.

Is third person hard to use when fighting? Like when you're fighting with a one handed sword in close quarters with a Draugr? Or more importantly, shooting an arrow.

Using an arrow is kinda difficult, using weapons on the other hand has become second nature for me.

Re: Which player view do you use?
Again, I'll reinterate as well as clarify: third-person is nifty in combat. Unless you're hemmed inside a tunnel or small room where the third-person camera collides with the wall and ruins your depth perspective in that crucial half-second where you're strafing to land a nice axe-blow on some draugr's noggin'.

Re: Which player view do you use?
I use first person for archery, but I find third person fighting to be absolutely "nifty," as Dark Spark said. You get to see what's around you so there's no surprises from the peripherals or behind you, and so long as you're not in a teeny, tiny room with walls to block your view, you're good. (Although I always play in third and I never saw any clippin' or hidin' of my glory, so what do I know? I am a chronic rotater of the zoom, though.)addictedtomorrowind wrote:Is third person hard to use when fighting? Like when you're fighting with a one handed sword in close quarters with a Draugr? Re: Which player view do you use?
Almost always first-person for combat, but I almost always use third-person for just wandering around and exploring. That way it's easier for me to really feel like my character.
