longsword or claymore ?
Is it worth taking a claymore instead of a longsword at cost of one hand and speed ?

i think it depends on who you're fighting against
if you're fighting against bandits or sth like that, a longsword and shield would be the best
if you're fighting against bigger creatures like minotaurs, trolls ogres a claymore is better, because a shield kinda wouldn't be enough protection because these enemies are too strong

claymore
it shall be claymore then thanks to nero's logic :
bandits are ALWAYS easy to defeat but a litle easier with sword but monsters are quiet difficult with sword so i'll take claymore

There is a saying, I forget where its from. If there are two generals, one defensive and one offensive, the offensive one always wins. Thus i like claymores, although it does depend on the enemy. If I am fighting an npc or an enemy with very strong blade attacks, I use my longsword. If its a strong blunt, I don't even bother because it would stagger me anyway. Oh, and a cookie for claymore when you use the backward power attack on a skeleton, there head pops off. Hilarious.

Lets look at Minotaur Lords: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Monst ... taur_Lords
Health 22/Level - Damage 24+(lvl/2) pts melee
Lets say Level 28: health 616 - Damage 38
Lets look at weapons: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Weapo ... de_Weapons
Daedric Longsword: Damage 24 - Speed 1.0
Daedric 2-Hand Sword: Damage 26 - Speed 0.8
Number of hits to Kill the Minotaur Lord:
Longsword: 25.6 Hits
2-Hand Sword: 23.69 Hits
Using Speed = Time to Kill the Minotaur Lord:
Longsword: 25.6 Seconds
2-Hand Sword: 29.6 Seconds
The 2-Hand Sword takes 4 seconds longer. How much damage can the Minotaur Lord do in 4 seconds?
We know the ML attack is slower, lets just say 1 attack every 2 seconds, at 38 damage:
25.6 seconds = 486.4 health lost
29.6 seconds = 562 health lost
That is a differenece of almost 76 health.
Now Enchanting your weapons can add more damage, and reduce the number of hits & time to Kill. However, you can enchant both the same. The type of weapon does not allow a greater enchantment. Thus neither weapon type gains an advantage here.
On the other hand, you can gain an additional enchantment with a shield. Tell me that the Escutcheon of Chorrol http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Leveled_Items#Shields won't be the difference maker.

A shield adds to your Armor Rating, and Absorbs Damage. This makes it even more important at higher levels. The Armor Rating displayed in the table represents the percentage of damage the piece of armor absorbs.

Nope, OB didn't leave out any items in the sets like MW used to on occasion. There are Daedric claymores, but they're mostly seen on the highest rank Dremora or Xivilai. Random loot lvl 20+ works too.
-EDIT-
Also... the reason I voted for JUST longswords... is that at Expert or Master of block, you just stop taking physical damage period. Given that enemies RARELY do large amounts of elemental damge, enchantments can easily take care of the rest, as well as natural resistances, etc.

I'm now playing with an "I want power" High Elf, who wants to be the new Ayleid King of Cyrodiil, and he's a spellsword.
I think longswords are much cooler then claymore's because all the nice weapons like Umbra and Goldbrand are longswords.
The Akaviri Dai-Katana is the only claymore that I ever use.
