Crests for each race.

Post by LauZ »

As the title says, i want to do crests for each race, and I need your help defining the emblems of each one.

So....

Imperials (this one is easy): The quill and the sword.

Bretons: Books and...?

Altmer: Elven sword and a wand.

Bosmer: A fork and a knife  (or a bow and a hood...)

Dunmer: um... bones?

Nords: An axe, a sword and a Shield!

Argonian: as hard as learning their languaje...

Kahjiit: Complicated... (claws?)

Redguards: A saber and a eye patch!

you go

For the Khajiit I would think something representing the desert, and the moons. The desert because that is where they come from, the moons because that is what their society is based on.

For the Dunmer, the Moon and Star of Nerevar, and perhaps something bone related as they take the honor of their ancestors very seriously.

For the Argonians I would think a tree, representing the hist, and anything else that might represent Black Marsh. You could also put chains or shackles representing that they were slaves. (make them cracked/broken ones to represent that they are slaves no more.)

I like this idea . . . but it's easier to classify factions than races. Not all Bretons are mages, not all Nords are warriors, not all Imperials are scholar-soldiers.

Fighters Guild crest:
Spoiler:

Dunmer... I'm thinking a sort of flag (you know, those flags for the Great Houses and Ashlander Tribes and such), with ash and ancestor depictions. There would also be something related to Moon and Star, like ZeRoc suggested.
Breton... something with magicka and a force field, showing resistance to magicka, and maybe some "dragon skin".
Argonian? A Hist tree, with lizards on both sides.

Entire races don't tend to have banners, but individual towns/holds/counties and factions do.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

You've obviously never played Warcraft ;)

Now to the issue at hand. I think this is a GREAT idea. Here's some ideas :)

Dunmer: I liked ZeRoc's idea about the Moon and Star. Also this symbol (The hand) turns up quite a lot among Dunmer (most recently as an option for facepaint for Dunmer in Skyrim). I think it has something to do with the Tribunal so I've always called it the Hand of the Tribunal.

Bosmer: I think they're the closest to the "normal" Tolkien-esque elves so a tree, bow & arrows (a quiver?) would probably be most appropriate. If you can think of something clever to go with that whole cannibalism affair you could include that. I suggest you read A Dance in Fire, it's totally worth it and gives a little glimpse of Bosmer culture.

Altmer: A wand is very...Harry Potter, try a staff. You could design a shield and take inspiration from the Thalmor Robes.

Nord: A dragon skull would be awesome, or a warhorn. Runes look beautiful too so you could have a slab of stone with rune markings.

Redguard: The Redguard are BIG on sailing so maybe ropes/nets/sails (just think what you'd see on a boat). They're also master swordsmen so you just can't go wrong with sticking a sword there. A pirate cutlass would look great (Think Cyrus from Redguard)

Argonian: They are very difficult since we've only been allowed a fly's poo's amount of information on their culture. I'd look into some ingame books to try and gouge something out (you should read The Argonian Account). ZeRoc's idea about the Hist was however the best I think.

Khajiit: The moons Masser and Secunda are holy to them. Also moon sugar is a big part of their culture.

Imperials: Imperials are merchants, so you should throw in a septim or two. The Akaviri Dragon was adopted as the symbol for the Empire so maybe that could be a part of their crest.

Breton: I found Bretons to be the hardest, they're so...normal. This is from the wiki:
Bretons are said to enjoy intellectual pursuits; they often have an affinity for anything related to logic and ordered complexity.
Based on this books would indeed be a safe bet. You could draw the Restoration and Conjuration symbol on some of the books since those are the schools they show most talent in.

Good luck! :)

For the argonians i will continue the idea of the Hist, but making it a lot complex with many brambles on it, for simbolize both their obscure nature and the many perils of their native land. Also it can be related to the alteration tree.

For the Dunmer more than Moon and star i will choose moon and night, for their change from Chimer and Dunmer, and also their nature "not so clean".

A dragon skull for the Nords is a grat idea!

The nords must have a shield (rounded?) with a battle axe and a nordic sword (or two handed axe an a nordic claymore? I dislike it because the shield is not just ornamental) behind the shield forming an X. And the final is the dragon skull on the top of the shield.

I love the addictedususdsjdsmorrowind's idea of Argonia, and should it have a dark blue or green font?

Try purple/violet font colour for Argonians. Amethysts seem to have SOME kind of significance in their culture since wedding bands have three flawless amethysts embedded in them. The middle one represents the Hist and the two on it's sides are the man and the woman to be married.

I agree with a lot of this, but Bretons . . people don't appreciate their lore! They're not average! >:I You can throw in a staff and a book, or perhaps something signifying the Forsworn . . I would also disagree with the moon sugar on the Khajiit. That is . . a stereotype?

Well it's a stereotype because it is a big part of their culture. Besides if you've read The Infernal City it's not always something the Khajiit buy just to get high on. It's in cooking and ceremonies and all that jazz.

For the Khajiit, Moon Sugar carries an important religious meaning. Some beliefs hold that the sugar is crystallized moonlight caught in the water of the Topal Sea and brought to the sugarcane groves of the Tenmar by the force of the twin tides. By partaking of the sugar, Khajiit believe they are consuming portions of their gods' souls, which drive them into fits of ecstasy and abandon. Catmen shivering in the streets can be seen in most major cities in Elsweyr. The more dangerous derivative of the sugar, Skooma, is often smoked in its raw crystalline form by severely dependent users, who are said to experience constant states of euphoria and lethargy. Despite pressures from the Empire to curb the Moon Sugar trade, the drug remains an important part of any Khajiit's life and Elsweyr's primary export.

I made it to level 80 on the MMO before I stopped playing. I really do detest MMOs. I preferred the older, RTS titles in the Warcraft universe and hope to see a Warcraft 4 in the future.

I digress, though. Except for the Imperials with their Red Dragon banner, which is really mostly for the Legions, races don't tend to have banners. In all the games from Daggerfall on through the present all the individual towns, knightly orders, etc. have their own banners pretty much. That's something we can actually look up and work with. Anything else is hypothetical.

I may be mistaken, but it seems as if your planning on making each crest with 2 primary symbols each. Seeing as within each race there exists much variety and many different aspects which you could highlight to give a more broad depiction of each race. Google crests and you can find many examples of the different styles people have used, many do have only a few primary symbols but there are some beautiful ones with a number of symbols as well as banners and other features.

I think this is an awesome idea though and I can't wait to see the results.

Here's a few other contributions.

Nords: A mug of mead?

Orc: An anvil, forge, something smithing related. Maybe something related to Malacath as well or the code. Obviously a weapon wouldn't be out of place either. Also the Orc women are herbalists and spiritualists.

Imperials: I think the Legion would be good to represent so perhaps one of the roman style swords like those in Morrowind and Skyrim, most of the other legion gear changes each game I've played. Except those skirts...

I'm out of time though, good luck!

Imperials- I think the symbol of Akatosh on a shield, behind the shield can two silver swords. Also on the shield, the symbol of Akatosh is bright gold and the shield it's self is bright red.

Bretons- Two staffs. The handle on the staffs is bright gold, the soul gem on the top can be shinning blue. The Staffs are behind a bright sliver book with daedric writing.

Nords- An Iron shield,The Iron shield is bright sliver with a brown cross, In the middle of the cross is a dragon skull on, behind the shield is a war axe and a great sword, both sliver with brown handles.

Redguards- Two Savors, Sliver and Gold. Behind a Bright Red with an silver Skull and crossbones on it.

Altmer- The Golden Aldmeri Dominion symbol with a staff going right throw the middle of it. The staff has a black handle and a golden Soul gem (if they can be gold) on top of the staff.

Bosmer- Two arrows crossing, Dark green and Brown. In front of a tree. In front of the tree and where the arrows cross is where a golden Aldmeri Dominion symbol

Dunmer- The star of Nerevarine, it's bright gold on a black shield. Behind the shield is two Daedric swords and towards the bottom of the shield a banner that says "Dunmeri" in Daedric writing.

Orsimer- Three war axes crossing, their tied together by a banner that says "praise Malacath" in Daedric.

Argonians- A hist tree with two dagger cross behind the hist tree. The daggers have bright green handles and sliver blades.

khajiit- Two Daggers crossing in front of a clothe. On the clothe is the two moons and a potion. (potion is Skooma of curse). The Daggers a daedric and the potion is bright gold. The clothe is black with the potion and two moons in the middle.

I'm sorry if a skip words or spell some things wrong. It's almost 3:00 in the morning...
