The hate of the Middle-East in the media

Re: The hate of the Middle-East in the media
I do remember reading Lenin's book when studying Russia back in school, but that was 30 years ago, and I wasn't really into worrying about politics and the like back then. I did download a .pdf of it though, so will give it a read when I have more time. I recall seeing Blum's work before too... I will leave it at that. It did not seem like an unbaised work... so I left it alone.
...so maybe we shall continue at a later date. My unusual talkitiveness this weekend was due to a rare 4 day weekend. I will be back to my regular reservedness tomorrow, as I am back to the works.

I have no issue with your stance on imperialism, V. I simply have an issue with your seemingly total anti US sentiment. It's a nation that's done a lot of terrible things true, but it's also done a lot of good things. This website is a clear example of that.
I don't mind you reminding people of the country's sins. That must be done. I just wish you would also remember its accomplishments. It is not an evil empire, it is not a global tyrant. It's a fairly normal global power when you look at the history of other global powers.
My point is, nothing is absolute. Nothing is entirely good, or entirely evil about it.

Re: The hate of the Middle-East in the media
Depends. Do I think all muslims are brainwashed scum who deserve to be hated and feared? No. I've had muslim friends, many of whom were quite intelligent, and quite critical thinking. Are some indoctrinated, brainwashed and violent? Yes, there are. But so are christians. So are jews. So are a lot of religious people. People tend to twist religions to their own needs. While I don't think it's religion's fault per say... well, you won't see someone twist atheism to try kill people. There's nothing to twist.
Regardless - no, I don't think the hate of the middle east in us media is warranted, but at the same time, it's not without cause, and media always do this - especially US media.

Atheism is an ideology like any other and it can easily be twisted and corrupted, just like any religion.

Atheism is a lack of belief, not a lack of morals.

Re: The hate of the Middle-East in the media
Much of the hatred of the Middle East comes from fear, and when you're lumping everything under one banner(like Middle East), and someone, somewhere who is vaguely representative of that says or does something menacing, frightening or aggressive, it's hard to not pass that label to the rest of the group. It may not be right to do it, but it's human nature, and that makes it a hard habit to get out of. I certainly wouldn't lump every country in the Middle East into the "Oh dear god they're terrorists!" category(do people even think of countries like Armenia when they say Middle East?), but, at the same time, I'm not stupid or passive enough to not see some of them as potential threats, with Iran topping that list(for various reasons). And lest anyone brings it up, I very, very rarely watch or read the news, and when I do, I like to see what all the media outlets are saying before coming to my own conclusion(it's actually really funny sometimes watching the difference in approach between, say, Fox News and CNN, to a story).
Don't mistake lack of talent for genius.

My anti-US sentiment is both to the Colonialism of the US, its white settler state history as well as its current regime and toppling of more progressive regimes in the entire course of its history.Dark Lord Cam wrote:I have no issue with your stance on imperialism, V. My point is, nothing is absolute. Nothing is entirely good, or entirely evil about it.
But in the end? I can call it an 'Empire'. 'Evil' is subjective, but it definitely acts and functions like an Empire. Just not an original Empire, constantly using the same tactics and operations as of now.
Could there have been good things that came through it? Perhaps. But in the end, it'd be a comparison of something that's worse (Feudalism).
My focusing on the negative is to basically show what 'good' we are doing in the foreign affairs, and domestic sometimes. As, really, the negative is the one that is most prevalent. The factor of these things.
But I view Atheism as three-way front.
Jargon, Hostile and Organizers.
You can guess which ones fails ultimately.

Re: The hate of the Middle-East in the media
The U.S. government has truly failed at making itself seem anything but laughable. Just look at out current Republican candidates: neither of them should be elected, yet they will continue to sling mud in all directions until they get their way (and while doing so discourage the other's ideas).
Velothi is right in saying that we are turning into more of an Empire, where new political ideas and philosophies are shunned.
The more and more I dissect the U.S's political strategies, the less and less I believe that we will ever get ourself out of the overall crisis that we have put upon ourselves. We are being told what is PC, and what should happen in a democracy, yet even those skewed visions are not fulfilled.

I think there's much more hate of Middle-Earth in the media actually.
When was the last time someone on Disney channel said "hey go read dat book it's mighty fine"? Never.

Well we've always been an Empire.Velothi is right in saying that we are turning into more of an Empire, where new political ideas and philosophies are shunned.
And it's not that new political ideas are shunned; just any idea or philosophy that threatens to capitalists interests will be shunned.
For example, why aren't we told about the Syrian or Libyan protestors violent nature? Or that neither has professed to be 'democratic'? It's because it's against the interests of our 1%, to remove those states and implant more tolerable ones that bow to them or give them what they need. (As we're getting more and more desperate)
