Axe or Masque?
Which do you prefer - the Rueful Axe or the Masque? I'm about to do the quest again, the first time I did it I chose the Axe, so I was wondering which one is better.
Twice and twice shall he be marked, twice to live and twice to die.
Once the heron, to set his path. Twice the heron, to name him true.
Once the Dragon, for remembrance lost. Twice the Dragon, for the price he must pay.

Re: Axe or Masque?
The Masque. I don't like axes and the masque goes well with my daedric armour. Also I didn't want to the task that would get me the axe.
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Definitely the Masque. I don't like two handed weapons and I love masks.

Masque because its Speech boost helps you get top dollar for your loot.
Re: Axe or Masque?
I went with the Masque. I don't use it, but I didn't think the axe was special enough to warrant... well... doing what it takes to get it.

Masque. The axe just seemed like such a poor alternative than in Oblivion where you could have Umbra

Barbas is a dog. With a cockney accent. What would you want to...ahem... do him in? Besides the fact that that's one of only three or four Daedric artifacts that you can get without doing something morally repulsive.

Re: Axe or Masque?
I took the masque and think it to be a much better item. OTOH, by that point I was about ready to murderize the damn dog anyway.
Rude, pushy beast with his nose constantly where it didn't belong, and kept shoving me into trouble to boot.
Had the axe been any good at all (wasn't close to equaling my primary weapon when I did the quest), I probably would have killed the dog happily.

Hehe, luckily you don't have to travel with him at any time.thekilkenny wrote:

When going to see Clavicus Vile for the first time, just wait for a couple of hours. The dog will go there without you and you can follow at your own leisure.
After having talked to Clavicus, simply tell the dog to stop following you.

Re: Axe or Masque?
I definitely would choose the mask because the perks from it outweigh the usefulness of the axe.

The name of the Rueful Axe, it seems, predicts the reaction of choosing it.

I chose the Masque, mostly because I couldn't bring myself to do...what I needed to do...to get the Axe. :/

I haven't done the quest, but by default I'd choose the axe. I always thought the Masque was hideous since it made me look like I had the face of a constipated samurai.

Well, appreciably the people of Nirn find the looks of a constipated samurai very attractive.....VirtualWeasel wrote:I haven't done the quest, but by default I'd choose the axe. I always thought the Masque was hideous since it made me look like I had the face of a constipated samurai.

^ I never thought about it that way... The samurai look I mean.
The Masque reminds me of Mongols or European kings but not the japanese warriors... And with Dragonrend... Damn, great idea for a RP.

I always pick the Masque. Even if my character is currently a despicable vampire Dark Brotherhood assassin who stabs everyone.

Masque. I enjoy screwing Clauvicus - in Oblivion, it was by keeping the weapon, in Skyrim it was by rejecting it
I'm on a rollercoaster that only goes up
