Ysolda and the Bannered Mare

Post by hoodedrobin »

Does Ysolda ever purchase the Bannered Mare? I married her thinking she was going to be a hoity-toity tavern owner... sigh... but so far it doesnt look that way. I was wondering if anyone else has had any luck with this. Im begining to think that i might have to elliminate the current owner for that to happen, but i dont want to kill her and her to leave the Bannered Mare to someone else. Any info on this is greatly appreciated.

She takes over if Hulda dies. But her dialogue doesn't change and she still says she dreams about buying it someday. I'm not sure if being married to her at the time affects her take over if hulda dies.

As far as I know, killing the original owner is the only way for Ysolda to take over. NPCs don't accomplish anything on their own. They just keep doing the same rudimentary stuff that's in their almost non-existent schedules every day.

Would you by chance know how does that affect being married to her, schedule wise?
- Does she go to the Bannered Mare during the day, and then return home at night (meaning whiterun home)?
- Does she stay at home, and never go to the Tavern?
- Does she stay at the Tavern 24-7, like all Tavern Owners?

I married her to and she now lives in solitude in proudspire manner. She opens a shop in the sense she sells stuff but since she never leaves the house i'm her only customer. I'm not sure what happens if you stay in whiterun though.

Okay, so if I am understanding this correctly:
- You are married, but live in Solitude.
- Hulda dies.
- Ysolda owns, but doesn't actually run the Bannered Mare?
- So who is at the Bannered Mare?

I guess it would be best for me to go this route on my next Character then.

oh in my game hulda is still alive. I dunno what happens to the mare if hulda kicks it and ysolda is married to you at the time. I could test it out tonight by killing hulda if ya want?

I'll do it shortly. I was waiting on the 1.4 patch, the CK, and whatever the Suprise was (high res pack), before I started a new character. It will give me a reason to marry someone else this time around. I basicall need a reason to test something, to have a reason to start a new character, and keep playing.

It's your topic.

Yes, last Wednesday, 1 Feb. Has been working good so far. I Haven't started a new character, so have not checked everything yet, but it did not mess up my current character, so that is good.

Sorry, not sure which of the two platforms you listed you are actually playing on. It was only released for PC last Wednesday. It has been sent in to MS & Sony, so it has not been released on those platforms, until the manufacturers approve it.

Sorry it you are on PS3, and it got your hopes up.

Well on my playthrough, I'm married to her and I killed Hulda (accidentally, I actually killed Saadia, but she came running after me and Illia killed her) and Ysolda has the dialogue for an innkeeper, but she sits at my house in Solitude instead, so I don't think she goes to the Bannered Mare if you married her even if Hulda dies. Otherwise though, I would imagine she would go there.

UPDATE: I started my new character and got around to doing this (took a while since I worked all weekend, so didn't play). I did notice that Ysolda is part of a few quests, so I chose an order:

1) Do her two specific quests, Mammoth Tusk & Sleeping Tree Sap.
2) Did the Sanguine Quest.
3) Took out Hulda.
4) Married Ysolda, and had her move in with me at Breezehome (whiterun).

When I killed Hulda, Ysolda immediately took over the Bannered Mare. It was actually quite funny, as she went behind the counter, commented "how terrible", and then preceeded to sell drinks from the bar. After we got married, she moved in, and stayed at home, never went back to the Bannered Mare. She just hangs at the house and eats... so will probably get quite overweight in a few years.

She does have the Wife Dialouge, Make a meal, How is the Store going, ect... She does sell items, but it is only Bar/Tavern food & drink items. Since she is not a Follower Type Wife, you can not give her anything.

She does in fact take over the Bannered Mare, so if you marry her, you techically own it, but she does not actually (physicaly) run it. You could consider the profit she makes from her store (that she runs from the house), part of the profit from the Bannered Mare. I am actually a bit dissapointed. I would have like to have seen her go to the Bannered Mare, 8am - 8pm, then return home. It is actually a bit dissapointing that none of the "Spouses", actually open up a Store, and it is just get married... hang out at home... Profit.

Nobody is behind the counter. I actually just noticed, that taking any items in the Bannered Mare is also considered stealing.

Do you get the option to move in with her when you two get married? I wonder if that would leave her at the Bannered Mare (or does she have another home?)

EDIT:

- If you ask her to move to her home, she goes to work the counter at the Bannered Mare, and does not ever go to her home. She works the Inn, 24/7, just like any Inn Keeper.
- If you ask her to move to Breezehome, she is a Stay at Home (non-follower) Spouse, and never works at the Bannered Mare.
- You can ask her to move to her house in the morning, and she works at the Bannered Mare. Then in the Evening, ask her to move to Beezehome, and spend time with her there.
- She does not have the "How is the Shop Doing" dialouge at the Bannered Mare, she does when she is in Breezehome, and you get your share of the profit.
- IIRC, this is due to the fact that the Spouse only opens a shop in your home, not theirs.
- Even when Ysolda is working the Bannered Mare, taking anything in there is considered "Stealing". ...so you do not get speacial Spousal Prividges for items in the Bannered Mare.

Ysolda lives with me at Breezehome but never seems to sleep in the bed.

Probably creeps her out having Lydia sitting at the take watching all the time.

My proudspire carl and ysolda get along fine. Though my carl keeps asking if I'm lost, which is weird.
