Cliff Racers
I'm pretty sure this belongs in Lore, but feel free to move it if this actually belongs in Morrowind.
So, we know that St. Jiub is awesome and all that for driving the Cliff Racers out of Morrowind. But where did the Cliff Racers go? In Skyrim? Did the dragons exterminate every single one of them? Or maybe Black Marsh or Cyrodiil, and the Argonians or Imperials killed them. Where might they have gone?

I'd venture a guess of "to Akavir" which is a bit of poetic justice...

Re: Cliff Racers
The general problem with every Elder Scrolls game is that they (almost) never have an explanation for a creature disappearing between games. For example, there are goblins in Cyrodiil, so where are the Skyrim goblins? And what about giants from Skyrim? Are we supposed to assume that absolutely NONE of them migrated down to Cyrodiil or east to Morrowind?
The simple truth is that there is generally not much lore supporting the sudden appearances and disappearances of monsters in the games. We're just going to have to accept that, I suppose. We're basically supposed to assume that the cliff racers vanished.

Re: Cliff Racers
Hmm. I guess we could interpret the quote as St. Jiub killing all of the Cliff Racers, "driving them" to extinction.

Re: Cliff Racers
Its rather interesting to note that cliffracers were the original nemesis's of the dragons, as well as the reason people thought that the dragonss were extinct. If they were so great in numbers that they were able to drive the dragons to near extinction how was st. jiub able to expel them from morrowind? As to where they went I assume that Bethesda "put them on a bus" as the TVTrope goes.

The Cliff Racers also managed to become the brass skin of the Numidium. I hope the Dwemer are enjoying themselves now.

Apparently they didn't stay gone.
Mjoll the Lioness, a Nord who is probably in her thirties or forties, mentions hunting cliff racers in Morrowind with her father as a young girl.
She's a Skyrim character, so she would have hunted them in the fourth era. Apparently whatever magicks or mundane tactics Jiub used to drive them off either died with him during the Oblivion crisis when he was felled by Daedra or after his death.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

How are the Giants supposed to cross the sea to Vvardenfell? And I think it would be pretty hard for them to cross the Jeralls with all their mammoths.Mod-Loving Wood Elf wrote:And what about giants from Skyrim? Well, it's implied the Giants' ancestors were more intelligent and may have sailed from Atmora with the Nords, but the current breed is certainly more primitive. I'd say Skyrim is the perfect environment for them as they are now.

Re: Cliff Racers
The skyrim we know seems to have natural borders in all 3 directions (west, south and east) where the giants could have migrated. The few giants which where able to pass these borders were most likely killed.
Has anybody thought how the cliffracers "killed" all the dragons back then in ancient times? Even 1000 cliffracers whould be no real match for a dragon
.
The best solution for this problem maybe is, the dragons died through air crashes. Hiting a bunch of cliffracers with high speed can seriously damage dragons. And the cliffracers survived due to their huge population.

Re: Cliff Racers
I think an intelligent race like the dragons would be more than capable of figuring out the link between flying into cliff racers at high velocity and injuries, and thus solving the problem by flying at a slower pace.

Re: Cliff Racers
Possibly. I don't think the Cliff Racers would survive in Skyrim, and I'm thinking some of them might've disappeared to Oblivion.

Re: Cliff Racers
Guys..guys, guys. Read my earlier post. Either St. Jiub didn't drive them all away or they came back, but a Nord woman living in the 4th era claims to have hunted them. They're not extinct or gone. They live in Morrowind.
As for how they defeated the dragons in Morrowind, maybe they simply out competed them for food and living space. Dragons don't breed at all, and cliffracers breed at alarming rates. There's hundreds of thousands if not millions of those damned things all over Morrowind. Even though Dragons are immortal we know they eat because they kill animals and we find their corpses and bones at Dragon roosts. A Dragon could still starve to "death" or a comatose state.
You might make the argument the Dragons could simply eat Cliff Racers, but these smaller creatures could probably fly circles around the heavier, slower Dragons. Getting a bite or two out of a large flock wouldn't sustain a Dragon the way a mound full of Kwama eggs would, and those damned winged lizards usually pick them clean before the Dragons can get a bite.

Oh yeah, Jiub did drive them away from Vvardenfell.
