TES:VI

Post by shu »

I was starting to wonder how Beth could make this work. After giving us dragons and having us be the Dragonborn and shouting enemies off ledges and mountains, how is it even possible to take this away? The only thing I can think of is to have us continue the adventure from Skyrim with the same character (preposterous, I know). I'm not talking about importing files or such, you start the game anew, but you're once again the Dovahkiin and, lore wise, you're the same person that defeated Alduin. Make VI could take place in the Summerset Isles and have us smash the Thalmor (one can only dream).
I highly doubt, though, that this will be the case (being Dovahkiin again, not the Summerset Isles, that could be possible), as it's never happened before. Hence the reason behind this post: how do you all think Bethesda will make up for taking away Shouts, if they do?

Maybe the player is a descendant of the Dovahkiin in skyrim, with the same powers?

They could take the dragon shouts and convert them into spells or powers. Like Slow Time could be a new Alteration spell. And Elemental Fury would be a power you can inherit somehow. And dragons, they'll probably include 1-3 ones associated with quests like they did with Dremora. Like maybe they fled to faraway lands once Alduin died, while others stayed and died?

Or, dragons could just have flown to other lands to plunder.... And live in caves in mountains or Dwarven ruins.

I think we're headed to the sunny southlands for TES VI: Valenwood, Elsweyr, Black Marsh. Further, I predict the return of the PC to mortal (from demigod) status without any "compensation." And that'll be just peachy.

They took away so much stuff with every game, they should have no problem at all to take away shouts - which, in my opinion, were almost useless to begin with.

I still miss my Levitation, Jump, Mark/Recall, Intervention spells...

Don't forget that ''normal" people can shout too. None of the Graybeards are dragonborn, remember....
It's entirely not impossible that in the next TES game the art of shouting is just as accessible as all the other magic schools. If a mages-guild-like institution picks up the the art of shouting they could do a way better job of spreading it's practice then those solitary hippies in High Hrothgar.

I agree with Swampy I haven't used the shouts very much. The t6hrow voice and become Etheral are quite good but there's no reason they can't be incorporated into other magic schools. In my opinion they need to be, especially if we're going somewhere where magic is more important and prevalent. As someone who relied heavily on magic in Oblivion I was a little disappointed with the lack of spells in Skyrim but I can accept that that's not what Skyrim is about. I wouldn't count on dragons even being in the next one. I'm not great on lore so please correct me if I'm wrong but dragons were only found in Skyrim? Also don't you have to be dragonborn to be able to kill a dragon? Like, anyone could hurt a dragon but to actually kill it you need to absorb it's soul, right?

What I can't understand is how they're going to tie up the story concerning the multiple different endings i.e who won the civil war is kind of the biggest, then there's did paarthanax die or spread the word of the voice to the other dragons? and I'm sure there are others.

I don't think we'll be going into the Dominion yet, I'm hoping for High Rock, but it might be hammerfell. I was speaking to a friend yesterday who said he thought that it would be the whole of Tamriel but I doubt it, not yet.

The other question is how long we'll have to wait? It was almost 6 years between Oblivion and Skyrim. I hope we don't have to wait that long again.

Dragons were not only found in Skyrim. Alduin once ruled over many parts of Tamriel, or at least tried to.

Ahem. You get one, maybe two Skyrim expansion DLCs, and then I get a full Fallout 4 development cycle, k?

I hope it's not another 6 years :( I don't really like fallout. And I'm pretty sure they've said two large expansions for Skyrim. I'm pretty sure that TES is more commercially successful than the fallout series so they might concentrate on another TES game....might

I typed up so much I put it in the spoiler tag below to try and keep things short! Enjoy!
Spoiler:
They really did SO much in Skyrim, it's will be interesting to say the least. I would like to see character import available in the future, but they would have to do so much that I don't know if they'd find it feasible. Think about it. They'd have to program any and all features of that character - equipment, spells, etc. - into the new game. With TES games, as well all know, bugs are bound to happen, whether funny, annoying for cheating, they're always there. And trying to program everything to cooperate with the new game could actually be quite a challenge, and be an opening for bugs.

Then you have to contend with Shouts. Shouts are great as they are. But importing them with a character to the next game and storyline for that matter... How would they fit in? How would they be converted to spells or powers? Some may be easy to do, and still make it look good, others may not. Example: Aura Whisper(life detection) I believe was previously a spell in TES IV: Oblivion, so it could easily be put into another game. Either way, shouts could be tough to transfer to the next game, as it is quite specific to Skyrim. The main issue would be storyline or general gameplay. How would it fit in???

The last note: Transfering a character in general makes the game less exciting I believe. Why? Well if you import your character, spells, skills and equipment, you already will have an advantage in the next game. The thing about TES Games, is that while they are role play games, building up your characters stats, is actually a bigger part of the game than we probably realize. More or less, fun would be taken out. Look for instance at the Oghma Infinium book cheat in Skyrim. A lot of people would tell you that if you use that and MAX out your skills, and then proceed with the game, it is no where near as fun, because you aren't working towards your skills increases, you'll have less to do - in a sense, there would be no reason for slashing, bashing, shooting, shocking, freezing, or setting fire to you enemies because you don't have a goal in mind for those skills.

SO... Character import, good idea or bad idea? When you first look at it, YES! It sounds fun to have that option, to keep the appearance, and keep some cool stuff. But when you dig deeper in, you find that in Elder Scrolls games, as in life sometimes, starting fresh is a good idea to go and tackle the world. Some like change, and some do not. So no. It's not as great an idea as it sounds. Besides, if Bethesda takes as long to create a new game as they did between Oblivion and Skyrim, we may have already moved to other games in that time, forgetting what our character was like, and everything will be OLD to us, - look back at Oblivion, and tell me it doesn't seem like old news, - so it may be easy to start fresh and take on the next part of Tamriel!
Sorry if it seems long and dragged out, I sometimes go into lots of detail to get a point across, because people try to argue. :|

Yeah they bought the Fallout IP so they could make one game and never touch it again.

I'd rather they make a new Fallout and then take their time making TES:VI. Better late and great.
Anyway I see no reason to bring back shouts they would make no sense being there.

I want Fallout 4 and then TES6. Dragons should be rare enemies, Shouts should be spells, and the Thalmor should be dealt with in DLC- I'm very bored with them and never really cared about them to begin with. And a better enemy than the Thalmor in TES6, too.

Can't see Fallout 4 or TES6 coming out until the next generation consoles appear and probalby a couple of years in there life cycle, I hope I'm wrong. In truth until Bethesda sort our melee combat I'm more interested in Fallout 4. I agree that Dragons should be rare. I would like game to be set in Valenwood or Elyswher. The Thalomr like several factions in Skyrim seem to be an afterthought or something that Bethesda hopes to include but ran out of time or just couldn't fit in to Console version of game without it being unplayable.

One thing Bethesda must do is not make annoying characters like Delphine, Maven BB and her ghastly brood and the Dumer hater from Windhelm essential.

In the next elder scrolls game i want your character to be a nameless prisoner not the dragonborn.
let the player decide what his character wants to be. they can still put shouts in the game it will just take longer to learn them, since your not the dragon born.

I have the opposite opinion, I think they could release a new TES game in about two years without making too many radical changes but still improving it and it would still be great. 6 years is waaay to long to wait.

Obsidian made New Vegas. Bethesda published it. They also might start a new IP.

Most of my characters never use shouts at all. They aren't THAT useful to where I can never play without them. I hope we go to valenwood or summerset isle. Blackmarsh..... No. Everything terrifies me there from what I have read. Their FLIES kill people, their FLIES!!!

i think they could completely remove shouts simply by saying Wolfie's character (with aid from the Blades) destroyed every dragon in existence starting with Paarthunax, and the greybeards (the best source of shout training) died out over time.. perhaps even an anti dragon cult also went round erasing the writing on the word walls. After the oblivion crisis the sh*t hit the fan in many ways not obvious to us at the time, so a plague of dragons could change the world in a similar way and TES6 could be set in altogether different times. Alduin will end the world one day, which implies that shouts will probably be eventually lost to man/mer, as they would be the means to defeat him (otherwise what's to stop us banishing him again and again forever.. tho i may have missed that bit of lore lol)

i can see how you might have a couple of shouts left over in TESVI from such a catastrophe and meet an old hermit who can use and teach them, and perhaps dragonborn could be a birthsign or trait you cold pick when you designed your hero..

i find shouts fill the place sigil stones did in oblivion, they're an alternative but can be used or ignored without too much bother either way.. i mainly like using them in towns just to show off to guards

although ice form has saved my bacon at low - mid level more times than i can remember

Nothing in our wildest imaginations can prepare us for Landfall.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

I would be disappointed if TES:VI included Dragon Shouts and Dragons in the same vein of Skyrim. All I'll say for the time being.
