Re: Lovers of the Thalmor!
The racism is the main reason I could never get behind the Stormcloaks.
I noticed Altmer have been getting a lot of hatred because of the Thalmor. I feel sorry for the Altmer. An entire race of people shouldn't be dragged down by the actions of some of them.

There are Altmer that do not like/love the Altmeri Dominion or the Thalmor. Just because you like Altmer, does not mean that you have to like Thalmor. Heck, you could even like Altmer, the Almeri Dominion, and not like Thalmor... as Thalmor are the Extremist (enforcers) of the Altmeri Dominion.
I do not like the Altmeri Dominion, Thalmor, Stormcloaks, and Great House Dunmer... all for the same reason. They are Bigots. ... Heck... Skyrim has even made me not like the Blades, since they want to kill all Dragons, even the helpful ones.
I do not hate them, I just do not like them, and have no respect for them. I leave them alone, unless they mess with me, or others.

Ok let's take stock of what their organisation has achieved:
*Organise the most effective defence of any province during the Oblivion Crisis, surpassing even the Cyrodiils despite not having access to the legendary hero Champion of Cyrodiil. Check.
*Make use of effective propaganda techniques to take the fragmented, divisive, complacent and effete homeland of the Altmer and organise it into a centralised state. Check.
*Achieve independence from the Empire and avoid having to pay any more Imperial tithes. Check.
*Continue to hold off any attacks from Pyandonea or Thras entirely on their own since achieving independence. Check.
*Detach Valenwood from the Empire and achieve a union with this nation. Check.
*Encourage the seccesion of Argonia and the devestation of loyalist Morrowind. Check.
*Detach Elsewhere from the Empire, divide the territory and make it into a client state. Check.
*Destroy political opposition at home to ensure the Dominion remains united on the home front and prepared to take on larger enemies. Check.
*Fight a war against a much larger enemy (the Empire), destroy most of its army, detach Hammerfell from it and devestate most of that province. Check.
*Devestate most of Cyrodiil. Check.
*Force an unequal peace on the Empire which only demonstrates the superiority of the Dominion and sows the seeds for future conflict within the Empire due to the Talos Worship Ban. Check.
*Dispatch agents across the Empire to antagonise the local population and cause them to revolt against Imperial rule. Check.

The Thalmor did not mount the best defence during the Oblivion Crisis. Are you forgetting what the Argonians did? Just about everyone fared better than Cyrodiil.

I'd love to hear more on your view. According to an Imperial Legate, the Altmer under the direction of the Thalmor outperformed the Cyrodiils.

Despite all the inappropriate and near rule-violating comments, this thread is a refreshing and invigorating idea. My position is that while one does not have to like a group or person, they should always acknowledge that they have a side to the story too, and not to dismiss them as 'evil' or other without trying to look at things from their perspective. I asked for more on your view on what the Argonians did and instead you make a bunch of personal assumptions....

Re: Lovers of the Thalmor!
What I was talking about the final part. I didn't say that they never outperformed Cyrodiil. Cyrodiil has less guards than Rorikstead.
About the Argonians, they supposedly just went kamikaze on Dagon's ass.
I wonder what the Khajiit did about the Crisis, they worship Dagon do they not?
And sorry about the personal assumption.

It is in the Keyes book The Infernal City. I know the Imperial Library has some excellent lore points taken from there, and I'd quote it here if I had a moment to find my book.Tarquin Dynatus wrote:Where is your source for what the Argonians did? To better clarify why I like the Thalmor, it can mostly come out of respect for what they had to go through. After all of their experiences, they were courageous to come out and take actions (Skyrim being a good example)

Sorry, but the last word that comes to my mind when describing the Thalmor is "courageous".
Manipulative, opportunistic, antagonistic, oppressive, racist - sure. Courageous? Not so much.

Re: Lovers of the Thalmor!
I love the Thalmor because they are the best baddies i have seen in a story since the nazis in Indiana Jones, or the Borg in Star trek.
Despite supposedly coming from 'high' origins, and potent in their arcane prowess they insult all they meet, beggar and lord alike. And when you meet them in the wilderness in your resplendant glowing legendary armour, they still try and kick rhetorical sand in your face even though they can be pwned by dovakhiin almost from the offset (a justicar and cronies is the only wandering monster fight where the actual manner of the enemy made me do a double take - should i kill these idiots, they seem sooo important ? lol)
their master plan is breathtaking in its disregard for the balance of nature and existence of civilisation across the world
and they don't care who knows how stuck up and nasty they are and will use every chance to publicly humiliate 'allies' and foes alike
what's not to love?

My source is the 3rd Pocket Guide to the Empire. It definitively outlines Summerset society as riddled with division and lack of confidence in itself, a result of its recent (by Altmer lifetime standards) subjugation by Tiber Septim.
