Nobody knows how it began. The virus appeared out of nowhere, and it destroyed everything in its path. People still think of the days before the Andes Flu…the days when children still played in the parks, families gathered at home each night for dinner, shops and taverns bustled with activity. But that’s all gone now.

TIMELINE

24 April 2012 - First outbreak occurs Cusco, Peru. Numbers of reported infected individuals rise from 5 to 197 in just one day. The virus is still thought to be a common flu.

29 April 2012 - The virus has spread out across the Cusco, Peru. Approximately 291,876 individuals are infected (81% of the city’s population). Widespread panic is caused by the rapid spreading of the new disease.

30 April 2012 - Infected individuals begin to show signs of aggression and homicidal behavior. Hospital Nacional Sureste EsSalud in Cusco is overrun. 84% of the city’s population is infected.

1 May 2012 - Peruvian National Police forces are deployed in Cusco. Infected individuals seem to have lost all sanity and ravage the city on a homicidal rampage. Their appearance and biological chemistry seems to have changed - bleeding eyes and ears, softer tissue and bone structure. PNP opens fire on the infected.

2 May 2012 - Majority of hospitals in Cusco are overrun. PNP forces are overwhelmed. 97% of the city’s population is infected.

3 May 2012 - All remaining non-infected individuals are evacuated from Cusco. The city’s PNP forces dissolve.

12 May 2012 - By this time, most settlements and cities in southeastern Peru are overrun. The virus continues to spread rapidly.

15 May 2012 - Chile, Bolivia, and Brazil close their borders to Peru as a result of the Confinamento Vírus Pacto (Virus Containment Pact).

17 May 2012 - The United Nations becomes involved with the containment of the virus, now dubbed the “Andes Flu” after the famous mountain region of South America.

18 May 2012 - Despite extreme efforts made by the Peruvian government, the virus reaches the capital city of Lima. Civilians are hastily evacuated from the city. Military forces are overwhelmed by infected personnel. President Ollanta Humala and Prime Minister Valdés disappear.

25 May 2012 - The Andes Flu begins its invasion of Bolivia and Brazil. The virus begins to spread at a quicker and far more aggressive pace.

28 May 2012 - With Peru in complete chaos, the virus finally hits Chile. Infected personnel tear through central South America. The United Nations deploys troops and biohazard control teams into the region. Complex studies on the Andes Flu begin.

3 June 2012 - The Bolivian capital cities of Sucre and La Paz are overrun, despite heavy military resistance from the Ejército and the UN. At this point, infected are spotted in São Paulo. The Andes Flu begins its rapid spread into Ecuador, Argentina, Columbia, and Venezuela.

9 June 2012 - Chile falls into chaos with the collapsing of Santiago and the dissolving of the republic.

10 June 2012 - UN forces officially pull out of Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. The majority of evacuation sites are overrun by infected personnel. Lima is bombed.

13 June 2012 - Brazil falls into chaos. UN forces continue to engage the infected and evacuate as many civilians as possible. Tests conclude that the “Andes Flu” is actually a series of mutating viruses, proving that they are combating multiple strands of diseases.

29 June 2012 - Columbia and Venezuela are torn apart by the infected.

3 June 2012 - The UN completely withdraws its forces from South America and barricades the Southern Mexican border. Patrols in the Caribbean Sea are magnified. Bogotá, La Paz, Quito, and other major cities which have been overrun are bombed.

11 June 2012 - It is discovered that insects and various species of bird and fish act as carriers of a strain of the “Andes Flu”.

27 June 2012 - Although severe efforts delay the spread of the Andes Flu, the virus continues on to strike Panama, southern Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican, Cuba, and various other Caribbean nations.

29 June 2012 - Infected are spotted in the cities of Miami and New Orleans, USA.

30 June 2012 - United States Army soldiers are deployed in the southern states. Civilians are evacuated to the northern and western states while viral containment is attempted in Florida, Louisiana, and Georgia.

6 July 2012 - Mexico City is overrun. The collapsing of the government follows. Mexico is in chaos. At this point, United States military begins its withdrawal from the Middle East.

19 July 2012 - Nearly the every Caribbean nation has been overrun. Only one evacuation site remains in the Dominican.

20 July 2012 - The last evacuation site in the Dominican Republic is overrun. Infected individuals are now encountered in Spain, France, Morocco, the Western Sahara, and Mauritania. Many nations including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Mali, Algeria, Australia, and many more close their borders completely.

23 July 2012 - The virus has spread out across the Mid-West in the United States, and is rapidly spreading towards the north. 28 major cities are bombed by the military.

26 July 2012 - All international airports in Europe, North America, and parts of Asia are closed.

27 July 2012 - The UN-backed Emergency Biohazard Control Organization (EBCO) is formed. EBCO personnel are highly trained, extremely well-equipped, and large in numbers. EBCO teams are deployed all across the world in an attempt to contain the Andes Flu.

1 August 2012 - With many nations such as the United States, France, and Germany in turmoil, the global economy crashes. Poverty levels increase at a rapid pace.

3 August 2012 - The Andes Flu aggressively spreads across western Africa. The EBCO tries to keep it contained in that region. Meanwhile, the French government descends into chaos after President Nicolas Sarkozy succumbs to the Andes Flu. The EBCO still maintains general control over Paris. Yet the virus has spread into other neighboring European nations as well.

4 August 2012 - Infected are spotted on the shores of the United Kingdom. Troops are deployed in an attempt to delay the spread of the flu.

10 August 2012 - Washington, D.C. is overrun. The President of the United States is evacuated with several other government officials. At this point, despite heavy EBCO and US military presence in the north states, Niagara Falls and the Great Lakes become a highway for American refugees. Canadian and American military activity on the border increases significantly.

15 August 2012 - Riots and continuous civil war cause the EBCO and the UN to lose their grasp on the African nations. Nearly every African city is completely overrun. Only five evacuation sites remain in South Africa - the last sites on the continent.

17 August 2012 - The virus hits London, England. During a public appearance of the British Royal Family, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge shows extreme symptoms of the Andes Flu.

18 August 2012 - The British Royal Family vanishes from the public. 23% of London has been infected. The virus has also spread into Manchester and Birmingham.

20 August 2012 - At this point, due to smuggling and other illegal activities, the Andes Flu has struck Japan, China, Russia, and several other East Asian nations. China denies aid from the EBCO, claiming it is the true cause for the rapid spread of the infection.

23 August 2012 - The virus rapidly rages across China. Hundreds of thousands are infected by the day. The EBCO is quickly overwhelmed by the infected in Japan. However, EBCO teams are doing an incredible job keeping the Andes Flu under control in the northern United States, Canada, the northern United Kingdom, and . Yet refugees continue to illegally cross into Canada, carrying the virus with them.

31 August 2012 - The infamous “New York Riot” occurs. Due to oppression and abuse from EBCO and military forces, civilians of New York City act out and violently destroy nine evacuation sites. Hundreds of infected escape, and the virus rushes throughout the region. Within one day, the EBCO and US military completely lose control of New York City.

4 September 2012 - With the disappearance of the Japanese Royal Family and the dissolving of the Japanese government, Japan descends into chaos. China, North Korea, South Korea, Mongolia, and eastern Russia have nearly been overrun as well.

5 September 2012 - The People’s Republic of China dissolves.

7 September 2012 - North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, succumbs to the Andes Flu. All remaining order in North Korea collapses. Meanwhile, EBCO forces rush to evacuate civilians from Moscow, Russia as the flu reaches the area.

13 September 2012 - Manchester, UK is overrun. British military and EBCO personnel withdraw from the city. In Africa, the last evacuation site in South Africa is crushed by the infected.

16 September 2012 - The “Niagara Massacre” occurs. Canadian military opens fire on a group of 14 American refugees attempting to cross the Niagara Falls. 7 of the 14 are killed. All of the others are wounded and handed over to American authorities for illegally trying to cross the border. The event causes much controversy in both nations.

18 September 2012 - Birmingham, UK is overrun - along with the remainder of the United Kingdom itself. By now, the majority of European, African, Asian, and South American nations have been overrun with infected. As the Andes Flu finally attacks Australia, the United States military is struggling to maintain control over Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Canada stands practically defenseless against the flu that is rapidly spreading into Toronto, Calgary, Quebec City, Edmonton, and other cities.

26 September 2012 - The “Calgary Revolt” occurs. Much like the New York Riot, civilians of Calgary rise up against the oppressive EBCO and military forces that occupy the city. Yet the results are far more catastrophic. Twenty evacuation sites both within the city and in the urban areas surrounding it are destroyed. Infected ravage the area. The Canadian military withdraws from Calgary with the EBCO as the Andes Flu rushes on at an even faster rate.

28 September 2012 - The last American civilians are evacuated from the northern United States. The entire nation has been overrun. Meanwhile, major Canadian cities such as Toronto are destroyed in a series of violent conflicts pinning the infected up against the Canadian military. Most EBCO personnel withdraw from the North American mainland.

10 October 2012 - Sydney, Australia is overrun. The infection of Governor-General Quentin Bryce and the subsequent evacuation of Prime Minister Julia Gillard lead to the collapsing of the Australian government. The nation is overwhelmed.

15 October 2012 - Remainders of the Canadian and American military forces become the United Military of North America. The President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Canada begin working together to retake key locations from the infected.

20 October 2012 - “Operation Bermuda” begins. The remainder of the UN conducts the mass relocation of evacuated civilians to Bermuda to be examined and brought to safe settlements in Alaska (a region of which is generally untouched by the Andes Flu).

ABOUT THE ANDES FLU

The “Andes Flu” is a series of thousands of continuously mutating viruses that each have similar affects on the victims. Due to the fact that the viruses never stop mutating, a cure or vaccine is impossible to develop. To make matters worse, the Andes Flu is known for its speed in advancement. The flu notoriously infected almost 300,000 Peruvian people throughout a period of only five days.

According to most recent studies by the Emergency Biohazard Control Organization, the Andes Flu is capable of affecting humans and several species of ape. The flu is also carried by a large variety of birds, fish, and insects. All strands of the virus have similar affects on the victims of the disease - bleeding of the eyes, ears, and mouth, slight softening of tissue and bone structure, depletion of nervous senses, and hostility towards non-infected personnel. The infected are not undead. They are still very living. But they have lost all sense of memory, common sense, and ability to use complex objects. Their intelligent thoughts have been replaced by animal-like instinct. The infected cannot use weapons or tools. In fact, they cannot even open doors. However, they are extremely quick, excellent climbers, and never grow fatigued or feel pain (they have lost all nervous senses).

In a series of 6 months, the Andes Flu had touched every corner of the world. Less than 600,000 non-infected people remain. Infected continue to overrun civilian strongholds throughout the world.

REMAINING ORGANIZATIONS BATTLING THE INFECTED

Emergency Biohazard Control Organization (EBCO)

The Emergency Biohazard Control Organization is a UN-backed association formed to keep the Andes Flu pandemic under control. They ultimately failed, yet their efforts have significantly slowed the spread of the infection and made Operation Bermuda possible. The EBCO is renowned for its lack of mercy or kindness towards civilians. Essentially, this “cruelty” is for the good of the survivors. They keep everyone in line and prevent chaos from occurring.
The EBCO possesses two branches - the hazmat branch, which manages the civilians and evacuations, and the security branch, a heavily armed force of soldiers which keep the civilians and evacuation sites under control.

United Military Forces of North America (UMFNA)

The United Military Forces of North America are the united armed forces of Canada and the USA. Formed on 15 October, 2012, these elite soldiers work under the personal command of the Prime Minister of Canada and the President of the United States to retake key locations on the North American mainland from the hordes of infected. The UMFNA is extremely well-armed, extremely well-trained, and extremely dangerous.

Union of European Powers (UEP)

The Union of European Powers is a small military organization based in northeastern Europe that battles the infected that have ravaged the continent. Though not as influential or powerful as the UMFNA, the UEP has retaken several important locations in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands and Scotland.

ABOUT OPERATION BERMUDA

“Operation Bermuda” is a massive plot to relocate the remainder of evacuated civilians to Alaska (which is generally untouched by the Andes Flu). It is being conducted by the EBCO and funded by the small remnants of the United Nations.

The plan of Operation Bermuda is to transfer all remaining non-infected civilians from the island of Bermuda to Alaska by airplane. Throughout the pandemic, Bermuda became the central stronghold of the EBCO. It remains under strict protection of the EBCO’s military forces. Civilians from all over the world were brought here for the commencing of Operation Bermuda.

300,000 civilians are currently being held at the evacuation site in Bermuda. If all goes as planned, these 300,000 will be relocated to Alaska within a week.

But will everything go as planned?

YOUR CHARACTERS

Your characters are a rarity in the world. They are carriers of the Andes Flu. This means that, while they are capable of carrying and spreading the disease, they do not show any symptoms. They are essentially uninfected and immune to the affects of the viruses.

Your characters will start off as unarmed civilians in Bermuda. The EBCO plans to evacuate you, along with 300,000 other survivors, to Alaska. You have endured hardships and known more loss than anyone can comprehend. But you are not alone.

Appearance: Liam has short, neatly combed dark brown hair. He has bright blue eyes. He has a longer face and strong chin. Due to recent events, Liam has a very light beard that he hasn’t found time to shave. Liam has a small scar above his right eye from an accident he suffered while a child. Overall, Liam is not a remarkable looking man.

Clothing: Liam wears a tweed jacket over a white shirt, along with black slacks.

Personality: Smart, extremely reckless and oblivious to personal harm. Liam is also very down to Earth and unprejudiced due to his time serving in WHO.

Background: Liam was a child prodigy who graduated collage at 18 and earned his M.D. at 25. Liam was born and raised in New Zealand, but moved to the United States when he was 18 for college. He still has a strong New Zealand accent. He was fascinated with the way the human body worked. Liam was a researcher in WHO, the UN’s World Health Organization. He had spent around ten years in WHO, studying diseases, spending time in Africa, the Middle East, South America, and parts of Asia, helping poor regions of the globe overcome diseases and health issues. When the Andes Flu broke out, Liam was sent to Peru to study it with a team of other Doctors. He made several small breakthroughs but then realized it mutated. (Early April-Early May)

Liam was never a religious man, but he considered it a miracle when his five partners became infected and he alone resisted the flu. Escaping to New York City from Peru, Liam began studying the disease as it spread. He became a notable figure in the world due to a website he started, ModernPlagueWithDrSegal.com. He used this website to talk about the Andes Flu and publish his studies, including trials and errors on how to cure the flu. (May-July)

It was some time in August that Liam had a routine check-up at his doctors and it was discovered that he has cardiac sarcoma, an incredibly rare heart tumor that is deadly, but curable. He was told his treatment would begin within the month. (August)

Liam spent the month experimenting with the Flu. Not even a week passed when Liam evacuated the city before he could get treatment for his tumor. He knew that he’d die within a few years even if the flu didn’t take him.

Liam quickly lost faith in the world. He gave up his life ambitions and left what was left of WHO. For a few days, he wandered the West looking for a purpose. He quickly found one in the form of a gang that formed in the chaos of the Flu outbreak.

Liam ran with the gang for a while. He became a simple gunman, learning about all sorts of weaponry he never experienced in the UN.

Liam continued to fight with the gang for a month before his entire team he was fighting alongside got slaughtered by an enemy gang. Liam headed back to the City, where he was evacuated to Bermuda. (October)

Physical Appearance (be VERY descriptive): Adam has a slightly rounded head. His chin doesn't point out too much, and his eyes are an icy blue. His eyebrows aren't busy, but aren't thin. It seems he is squinting a lot. His hair is kind of short, which is slightly spiked and messy. His hair is a light brown color. He is skinny, and is always slightly hunched. He always looks around in nervousness.
Clothing: He wears a simple grey T shirt and khaki jeans. He wears black and white DC like shoes. He dislikes socks, and most of the time doesn't wear them. He has a black backpack that he keeps various items in, anything from medical equipment to letters.
Background (be VERY detailed - I gave you a whole timeline to work with): Adam was born in Denver, Colorado. When he learned of the virus, he moved to Canada with a group of friends, shortly before the overrun of Mexico City. He had become the messenger in a way, sneaking around buildings and jumping around. He soon learned that Denver had been bombed, destroying any remaining remnants of his past life. One of his closest friends, Mark, had been scratched, and quickly turned. Mark scratched Adam down his leg, with Adam retaliating by shooting his childhood friend. When Adam and whoever was remaining in his group, he decided that he could attempt cross the Niagara Falls. Adam barely escaped, any past friends being killed. Over the years, he soon lost confidence in himself, and adopted his hunched position. because of the Niagara Falls Massacre, he deeply hates the Canadian Military, believing that they have caused a large portion of his suffering.
Personality: Adam is a very nervous, quiet person. He lacks almost any self confidence, but will stand and fight for what he believes in. He is somewhat antisocial. He isn't afraid to take risks, and doesn't care if he dies, believing he has nothing else to live for.

Has a permanently focused, distant demeanour, as if she is on the verge of remembering an idea that slipped her mind.
Clothing: Faded blue jeans, white sneakers, a grey McGill varsity t-shirt, and a dark grey jacket.
Background: Jo was brought up in an exceedingly normal Canadian family, in the small town of Wasaga Beach on the shoreline of Georgian Bay. Her father worked long hours at his small company, her mother applied herself to a knick-knack store for tourists. From a young age, Joana exceeded expectations in school. After graduating high school she went on to McGill in Montreal, Canada's most illustrious university, studying medicine, specifically pathology. The emergence and the spread of the Andes virus, watched first on television in faraway places, before getting closer and closer, scared her to death. When, finally, the disease struck Montreal, she fled the city for her parents' cottage in Muskoka, in remote northern Ontario. There, they waited, defended by the skills of her father, an avid hunter and former Canadian Army officer, from the odd infected that chanced upon their little stead. Finally, they were discovered and evacuated by the Canadian military eastward to the as-of-yet untouched province of Newfoundland. This respite did not last long, as the disease continued it's inexorable march northward. While awaiting the evacuation to Bermuda, both Joana's mother and father fell victim to the plague, and were killed. Joana finally managed to get aboard a plane to the island of Bermuda. She is still crushed by their loss.
Personality: Joana is remarkably intelligent, and is normally quite friendly. However, the fall of civilization and the deaths of her parents have driven into a dream-like state, barely comprehending the world around her.

It is worth noting that Joana's father taught her how to use a rifle when she was twelve.

Bobby is strong and athletic, and was known for his adamant athletic skills at school. He is smart, though, a real thinker, and he can solve most problems by himself. When it comes to team playing, Bobby believes there is nothing more important, and in these troubled times, the only way to survive is to band together in brotherhood. Bobby was popular and loved in the life he led. He was not, though, without hardship.
Clothing: Bobby wears a simple blue shirt and jeans, and like any other survivor, he has a small knapsack he keeps his only belongings, medical equipment, weapons, and a picture of his old family, and girlfriend.
Background: Bobby had a good life in rural Michigan, roaming the hills and going to school, leading a simple life. Until tragedy struck. Bobby's dad died of cancer during high school, and he has never been the same. You see, Bobby's father was his mentor, his guiding light who taught him everything he knows. The memories they shared will never be forgotten. Bobby is still haunted by his father in his dreams. Bobby lived a quiet life with his mother, a widow, until he went to college in New York. On the 6th of July, when the U.S. was holding it's breath, waiting for Mexico to finally collapse, and fighting the flood of infected across the south, Bobby Novas left New York. He rushed to Michigan, to pick up his mother and girlfriend. By the 23th of July, Bobby and his small band were crossing the border, when they saw the bombs falling. Ironically, it was not the virus that killed Bobby's mother, but an incoming bomb that almost killed Bobby as well. Injured and tired, Bobby and his girl climbed out of the smoking wreckage of the car. Then the infected attacked.

Later that morning, Canadian Army located an injured, weary, and near-dead traveler on the side of the road. They took him to Toronto, where doctors declared him immune to the Andes Virus. He waited, stewing in Toronto, until that fateful day, 26th of September, when he was shipped off to Bermuda, to participate in the operation. That is where it begins.
It is noted that Bobby has advanced training in rifles, shotguns, and knives.
