Re: What game do you want to see made?
No, no, no, a good sequel. One which gets patched in a timely manner and hasn't had great features gutted for the sake of console-oriented focus group tests. A Creation Kit released prior to the launch date for Crusader Kings 2, at which point Skyrim becomes moot anyway, CK or not, is also a plus as far as this hypothetical Elder Scrolls game goes.
Jade Empire 2 would be a good idea, but I'd be careful what you wish for: considering recent developments, it'd probably be released as some crap MMO.

Re: What game do you want to see made?
Skyrim was a good sequel, IMO of course. What was gutted was usually redundant, though they should've kept spellcrafting, and maybe the stat level up screen (Not needed though). I agree on the lack of patches, and no TES Kit as of yet.
And I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the flack Bioware will be receiving for releasing an MMO. One that is actually GOOD. I know it can be fun to attack the MMO scene, but it's simply another genre that people do enjoy, myself included.
Anyway, I did get off track. I think it's high time Oddworld got another sequel. What was the last one? Stranger's Wrath? Yeah, and that was released in 2005.

Re: What game do you want to see made?
"Good MMO" makes about as much sense as "redundant TES features"! Sure, sure, I've heard that TOR is being well received, and I'm certain if anyone can make an MMO I'd like to play, it'd be Bioware. But I still don't care. I hate MMOs on principle, and I am nothing if not principled.

Explain these principles than. Most who hate MMO's are usually turned off by how the stereotype of players that was created, the monthly fee, the grind, or sometimes all of the above.DorostheConqueror wrote:"Good MMO" makes about as much sense as "redundant TES features"! While these points can be valid, they certainly over look much of what an MMO does right, that even other multiplayer games nowadays fail to do.

Re: What game do you want to see made?
What I hate about MMOs? Pretty much all the above, and then some. The monthly fee is a flat out killer; I could go on for hours about why I hate surrendering ownership of my purchased products and voluntarily subjecting myself to digital serfdom in perpetuity. Grinding I wouldn't mind so much IF all the other players didn't make it absolutely necessary, and IF I didn't have an audience staring at me while I waste my life e-fishing or smacking an axe into a pile of wood. And the stereotype? You mean, how every MMO player is a loser? That's not entirely fair- back in the Army, I served with a couple hot girls who were addicted to WoW. But for me, it's more about being sociable- if I wanted to be sociable, I'd go outside and hang out with my IRL friends. Or go post on a forum. Or talk to my collection of guns. When I'm playing a game, I like to be left alone, free to run rampant through a world all my own, lording it over all the little AI creatures. In an MMO, I'm just another faceless shmuck in a sea of nerds, endlessly jockeying for status and position. It's like all the worst parts of high school and comic conventions, with a monthly fee attached.
No thanks. Not for me.
Also, I heard TOR uses some kinda rail shooter system for it's space battles? WTF is THAT?! Rail shooters in an MMO, yeah, that's something I'd really love to see; please don't tell me they use QTEs too.

Re: What game do you want to see made?
Mmhm, not surprised, I know not every genre appeals to someone. I just like understanding another person's reasons. Now to address this.
The fee is necessary, not only is it for server maintenance, updates, content updates, and employee fees; it's also so they can make a profit. Oh, but they're a successful company, they make plenty of money as is! Well, no, they still need to make the money they put in this game back, even then, breaking even isn't preferable since it puts them at square one, they need to make a profit. Not to mention Bioware themselves put about 135 million into this game, I'd say they got a lot of catching up to do in profits.
Of course there are F2P MMO's and games, that structure can be just as profitable, sometimes more (LoL is rather successful with this model), but if your game doesn't do well, than it's sup-optimal. And I don't need to say that is is pretty risky.
And what do you mean by players making it necessary? Are you saying people tried to force you to gain levels? If so than ignore them, you do it at your own pace. And stuff like fishing is optional, it's simply an ulterior way to kill time. Yeah, they could do it in real life, but they probably don't enjoy it. So why would you do it this way, when you can do it in a way that you deem even somewhat enjoyable? I myself do fish in real life, but either way is fine, though not the same experience.
And it's funny you say you don't want an audience staring at you while you do this. 1.) Do you hate it when people watch you go about your day in real life as well? 2.) People are technically being sociable while they play these games. Oh, you mean human interaction? Yes, human interaction is important, though it's not the only way to be sociable. And you can't exactly expect everyone in life to be a social butterfly, even without these games; they'd probably be held up in their room doing whatever they please. Maybe posting on a forum like you said, playing guitar like I do, listening to music, tv, etc. These games do give them an alternative, though a flawed one, to actually interact with people via their computer. And it's still a brand new concept to some.
Now I skipped over the stereotype bit, cause I wanted to mention the other bits first. I should've mentioned that those who buy into the MMO-loser brand are pretty gullible. That was poor wording on my part.
And to address the last sentences. How is this different from real life? Aren't you technically a faceless schmuck among the crowd? Only this crowd has billions to it, and your accomplishment to you, mean nothing to the next person. And yes, the game does have rail-shooters. is there anything wrong with that? if there was I'm sure games like Starfox wouldn't have been as successful as they were. People nowadays do like more control, but nothing is wrong with a tried and true style. Could how the space combat in TOR be done a bit better? Absolutely! They even said they are gonna try to make it more enjoyable. Commitment is sorta rare in developers nowadays, and it seems like Bioware is at least trying.
Anyway, to close this post up (And if you honestly wanna continue this, we should do this via PM. Avron is probably gonna swoop in soon
). Like I said, MMO's aren't for everyone, lord knows they aren't, they have issues that turn a few people off. It does sound like the way you enjoy yourself most, is oddly being left alone in game, and out, while on a video game. Lord knows I like being left alone in the "corner" at times. And it's fine, games are meant to be enjoyed in a wide variety of ways, ours are simply some of many.
Edit; cause I don't want this post to have been entirely off-topic. I really wanna see Supergiant Games make Bastion 2! Bastion 1 was a great game.

Re: What game do you want to see made?
It wouldn't be if it wasn't an MMO. And then in the very next paragraph, you admit that there are plenty of F2P MMOs, neatly contradicting the statement you just made!FireAcolyte wrote:The fee is necessary
Actually, yes, I do! I don't even like it when people are staring at me doing something productive, so why would I want people to be staring at me while I'm grinding on an MMO?Do you hate it when people watch you go about your day in real life as well?
Yes. Rail shooters were fine and dandy back when Airwolf was in the arcades and it was the only cabinet that let me shoot a rifle, but it's 2012 for chrissakes. Rail shooters are boring, lazy, and a very, very poor design choice- they're a sure sign that the game designer has forgotten that he's supposed to be making a game and would rather just make us watch a thirty minute CGI FMV.yes, the game does have rail-shooters. is there anything wrong with that?
Yeah. That's the problem! People don't play games to do the same boring stuff they do in their daily routines, or at least I don't. Again, if you're just going to be a face in the crowd, why not do it IRL?How is this different from real life? Aren't you technically a faceless schmuck among the crowd?
I mean, picture Skyrim. What if, instead of being the Dovakiin, you were a student, an office worker, or some random drunk at an inn? You get nowhere, you do nothing, and after a couple months of watching high level adventurers who started playing Skyrim years before you did stand in lines to kill a regularly respawning boss monster, the servers crash and you're left without any game at all. MMOs! Whoopee!

Re: What game do you want to see made?
1. I contradicted myself? Mmmm, no, I actually didn't, I said both knowing full-well my point would probably be missed. I admit to there being successful F2P's, and they can be just as advantageous, however the risk the model institutes is high. If not executed right, then you basically made no money back, while an initial subscriber base in an MMO has even a slight percentage made back due to the 15 dollars made from each subscriber that bought time, and yeah; the game itself. LoL had success cause it executed their store very well, which in other games hasn't worked out nearly as well. So the fee is necessary for profit, unless you absolutely know what you are doing; and chances are you really don't.
2. I guess, though to me, it just seems like you are being oversensitive. Why do you care? You'll almost certainly never see them again, nor will you the same with them. Are you afraid of being pitied? Screw 'em, their opinions don't matter, like mine about you don't, nor do yours about me either.
3. You do make a valid point, I still enjoy them, which means there is still a niche audience for them. Though yes, with a major game you would expect better, and they are hopefully gonna change it. On a more personal note, if you enjoyed them back than, doesn't matter if it's 2012, or 2050, you'll probably still garner enjoyment out of them.
4. Being a face in both makes you just that, still a face. Oh, but you're out in the sun!...Okay, so? Congratulations, but are you actually doing anything out of the house? Is that person getting enjoyment? If not, than that person pretty much felt like they accomplished nothing.
And that example can be applied both ways. Put 10-20 hours in a game over the course of a couple weeks in what little precious free time you have...Save wipes itself, same thing. the difference is your progress in an MMO isn't gone, all your items and characters are still there, and you have a chance of continuing from where you died on that boss. Even if you can't, you can do it the next day, or next week. That other game though, you have to remake your character, go back through the tutorial, get your items back...Basically you just retraced those steps.

People have limited funds, or they feel it can go to a better usage. That's fine, I do have the disposable funds thanks to my job to dump 15 a month down.
Anyway, I derailed this enough..I'm probably gonna wait for this to go back on track before posting (On-topic) in this thread again.

Am I the only one who wants a TES game with 2 provinces instead of just one?
It could be like Oblivion, that had Cyrodiil and the Shivering Isles.
Maybe Valenwood and the Summerset Isles, or Hammerfell and High Rock.

I would LOVE to see Bethesda do an Elder Scrolls-esque Lord of the Rings RPG. Assuming they put the attention to detail into that as they did into Skyrim, it would be incredible.
