Alduin (Major Spoiler!)

Post by Mun »

Don't open the spoiler if you don't want to spoil the game for yourself and haven't gotten very far in the main quest.
Spoiler:
I just defeated Alduin (He's not dead yet, he ends up running away.), And realized he wasn't very hard to defeat. I mean he survives after the battle but still, First time fighting him I thought he would've been harder then what I just experienced. Has anyone else fought him and what did you think?

haha, well I had the opposite the first time because I got some bug where he doesnt take damage :L

But yeah when i got past the bug he was pretty simple to kill just like any other dragon but with slightly more health :/

I was about level 34 at the time idk if Alduin is generated according to my level or not so i dunno if my level matters.

Spoiler:
He's much harder to kill the second time, but not as hard to kill as some of the levelled Dragons like Ancients.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Did you play on master?
On difficulties such as adept and lower its pretty easy.

Yeah, first time is prety anti-climactic.
Spoiler:
The second time I fought him he wouldn't take any damage at all unless I had first used Dragonrend on him

Alduin is unleveled, it's suggested to fight him before level 35 (master) or level 24 (adept)

Alduin is a pansy. Hit with Dragonrend over and over and he's dead. Random Elder Dragons are scarier and tougher (probably because I'm less prepared for them).

Dragons in general aren't all that bad. As soon as you get credible fire and frost resistance it's pretty much over.
I would be a procrastinator, but I keep putting it off.

Even then. Dragons in the game just aren't that powerful.

first time i met an ancient dragon was after the main quest was done and it killed me 5 times before i resorted to
Spoiler:
summoning my own dragon
and hiding behind pillars and my atronarch/bow until it was safe.. i was at winterhold so several mages got stuck in too.. the [&@%!] took about 4 seconds to kill me with ice breath so face on was not an option, as it is with most dragons

and this is my 45th level character with 300+ health, 50% resistance to cold, spellbreaker, and other useful gear so my character was no slouch
Spoiler:
i thought the final fight was mainly easy because Alduin attacked the other heroes most of the time so all i had to do was dragon rend him and smack his arse with my dual swords.. when the others were not present i found him a very difficult enemy on my own, mainly cos he soaked a lot of damage

The final battle should've been a one-on-one battle in a large, open space. Having other people help you takes away from the whole "Epic" nature of the battle.

I had more trouble with Alduin in the first time. I was on Adept, level 50's.

The 2nd time, on master with level 67, was easier.

According to the strategy guide, he is leveled, but you fight a different version each time.

I think that was to add to the fact he's a god and a formidable opponent. It makes him seem more intimidating that you need four people to face him.

Course your character does all the heavy lifting in the battle.

The first time was harder that the second.
The second was too easy though. Just hit him with Dragonrend and a few arrows and he was dead.
I was at level 40 on adept.

Somebody had to say it...
Spoiler:
I'VE FOUGHT MUDCRABS TOUGHER THAN HIM!
Do you mind? I'm doing the fishstick. It's a very delicate state of mind.

Alduin does Fire damage right?

I find you guys very "dismisive" about the Alduin fight.
Spoiler:
I fought him 2-3 times and got waxed every time. The 2 dragons flying above my head, Alduin and Parthurnax get me confused as to who exactly i should Dragonrend and while i'm disoriented, fire bombs fall around me and lower my health until Alduin lands close by and chomps on me or breathes on me and finishes me off. Dragonrend brings him down but does not make him any weaker, it simply makes him land, often very far from me. I mean, the fight might be different on PC but i do not find it easy at all, even with better arrows. Since i'm denied stealth, i get few "Hidden" bonuses and it makes the fight harder.

Also, i was wondering how one could melée a dragon since he chomps on you as soon as he gets in range!? WTH?
Preemah is puzzled

If you knwo how to fight him, it's rather easy. Sabre cats are worse :-D

How-to
Spoiler:
Take him down with newly acquired shout, stand behind him, keep bashing. When he wants to fly again, just repeat :-D
He is much harder to fight later in the game.

How-to (this time, it can really be spoiler)
Spoiler:
Repeat the before-said strategy :-D The only difference here is that he still keeps flying around, so hitting him with shout is some kind of lottery. I have been really lucky - hit him on my first try and than it's basic hack n' slash.
Little off-topic
Spoiler:
The said strategy seems not to be usable on high-level dragons as Elder ones. They keep dealing heavy magical damage to me... :-( I have to figure this out and start killing them again :-P
