I'm just curious, how many of you will be reading the second half of the TES story by Keyes? I was in the bookstore yesterday and there it was in all it's glory on the shelf. While I wanted to take it and throw it out the window, having hated every moment of The Infernal City - and not even being able to finish it - I feel like maybe I'll revisit it and give Lord of Souls a try...maybe. I want to read it for the lore more so than the story. I like Keyes as a writer but I feel his style just isn't befitting to the TES universe.
And no, this isn't really a gripe thread, so don't bother. I'm just genuinely curious to see if anyone is reading the books or feels a responsibility to do so as a fan.

Re: "Lord of Souls"
Since it's canon, I'll have to read it some day, I've been putting it off because of my dislike of the Infernal City (granted not as much as some people taking grand crusades out against it)

Re: "Lord of Souls"
I liked it.
Lots of betrayal in Lord of Souls.
Lots of sexual innuendos too though which is fun but got kinda "Uh...ok" after awhile.
You should read it though it has nice tidbits about established lore here and there and you meet a couple Daedric Princes.

I read it a while back. I liked it pretty well for what it is. It fills in some of the blanks between Oblivion and Skyrim. It's a shame the events of the two novels weren't referenced more in Skyrim.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

That's true, Pilaf. I haven't done that much exploring in Skyrim still, but I keep hoping to hear some references to past games and the books. The latter has been pretty short so far. I wonder why...wasn't that long ago, certainly?

There's references like Titus Mede II being Emperor, and the Penitus Oculatus being his security force.Avron the S'wit wrote:That's true, Pilaf. Umbriel is mentioned in a miscellaneous quest which is little known because the trigger to start it is in an obscure place. Apparently a seed from the city fell on Tamriel, and these Sleeping Trees are originally from Oblivion or something, and there's a quest to get their sap for an alchemist which is cool.

Re: "Lord of Souls"
I agree.
There should of been more references in the game.
I mean it was a big deal during it's time.
160 years is a bit long though for anyone not elf.
