Final Fantasy XIII-2
So the Demo just came out (on 360 at least, not too sure about other consoles) and personally i think it looks amazing! It's looking to be a brilliant game and I can't wait for it's release
It's prequel got a lot of hate though so i'm wondering...what do all you Final Fantasy-ers out there think?

XIII is one of the worst games i've ever played. Don't think i'll be buying this.

Yeah, it kinda got rid of the main part of FF series. Being able to control your party, and being able to go where you want.Knight Captain Kerr wrote:XIII is one of the worst game i've ever played. Don't think i'll be buying this.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
To be honest i think it was a nice change. A lot of people say that it was terrible but i loved it personally. It broke away from the other games of the series and did it's own thing, focusing more on plot and (slightly) character background and development rather than character design.
However this is about FF XIII-2 which, rather coincidentally, is looking a lot different to FF XIII in terms of the role-playing aspects. In truth some aspects seem rather "lessened" by the fact that it doesn't let you design your character's to the extent i thought you would be able to but it still has a better RPG feel to it than XIII. Then again people have their opinions
I recommend you at least try the demo if you can. I mean it's worth a shot and you never know...you might like it

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
yeah, it wasnt what i was expecting but once i got my head round what they were doing, i thought it was a good game.. unfortunately i didnt have the time or energy to go for the all gold fights . They focused totally on the combat system, the plot was nothing more than a vehicle to transport you to the next fight . Essentially the first 2 discs were a humungous tutorial and even tho i think there was enough substance to the combat system to warrant the focus, i would prefer a return of the traditional mini game and sandbox format - definitely give us some choices before disc 3 lol
but my main gripe was the complexity on the equipment improvement - it was just stupid scrolling down long lists of items and random nic nacs, hoping you could upgrade your gun - even with the various fan made spreadsheets saying what item could be used where, i still couldn't be arsed to do much of it.. compared to the prettiness of the chrystarium, they could have made weapon upgrades so much fun with a bit of imagination
and tbh the skill 'tree' wasnt much of a tree, perhaps the upgrade system should have been where the choices could have been implemented, i would have loved to see a workbench graphic/mini game and just tinker with the weapons and see what you could do with items/improvements, and create some truly strange items

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
I thought that too when i first heard that
I can kind of see where you're coming from on this but to be quite honest i think this game had one of the most amazing plots of a game i've seen. I like the way they handled this game, breaking away from the previous standard FF's. The equipment system was pretty simple once you understood the difference between organic and inorganic materials but yeah it was pretty complicated at first i have to admit. Now the levelling i can totally agree on. That was the only major flaw of the game to me and it seems like they've carried it on to XIII-2 albeit with a few moderations. Still, can't say i'm not looking forward to itMattbott wrote:yeah, it wasnt what i was expecting but once i got my head round what they were doing, i thought it was a good game.. unfortunately i didnt have the time or energy to go for the all gold fights . Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
i like these games for the good vibes and imaginative scenery, the hairstyles (jk) and addictive gameplay which they usually put into the minigames
i got the organic vs the inorganic materials thing but it was the fiddliness i didnt like, imagine if crafting a weapon was as pretty and accessible as going round the skill tree? they could have made that the minigame for ff13 imo
i might buy it when the price goes down or if reviews are good

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
Might rent it for two $. Have my sights on soul calibur v.
Ffxiii was agitating to play at times. For example the gil and exp farming. The only good thing that came out of 13 is Versus being delayed and rearranged.
Still it was entertaining at times. Not to mention how the final form of the last fight felt like you were fighting the deus ex machina from the matrix.
The dialogue was crap at times too. Mostly the childlike responses to enemies during cg scenes or even fight sequence dialogue.

yes, agree with you thereStinkyJozef wrote:Might rent it for two $. Have my sights on soul calibur v.

it became clear that unless you mercilessly farmed adamantoises for hours in disc 3, the majority of the big fights were way out of your league - i got the game intending to get 1000/1000, but just didnt have the time to get powerful enough to do so.. ff13 was good value if you have nothing much else to do but i think it's pretty bad game design to impose this sort of thing on players.. i put over 100 hours into is but still really only got to the point where i was starting to fight the harder monsters (the giant cactus would have been the biggest enemy i defeated if i had been a bit luckier lol)

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
A few months from now most of us will still be playing Skyrim.
I doubt Downpour or Operation Racoon City will be any different from todays releases. Skyrim is like the Matrix of video games right now.
Saw a trailer for xiii2 on youtube. Good for atleast one playthrough.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
See if you use the right paradigms and items etc you can beat pretty much the entire game with mid level paradigm (level 4 usually) I'd say the hardest is Cieth stone 64 :/

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
yeah, I saw stuff like that, but tbh i prefer games that allow you to beat them with your own ideas, rather than cranking it up so high only a few combos work - kind of ruins the point of being able to choose paradigms and character combos, if the tough guys can only be beaten one way imoBOETHIABADMAN wrote:See if you use the right paradigms and items etc you can beat pretty much the entire game with mid level paradigm (level 4 usually) I'd say the hardest is Cieth stone 64 :/
that's the thing that ultimately put me off 13, but kept me playing 7 and 8 (which i played and played) - freedom, choice, - ftw

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
Hmm i see what you mean but sometimes that can be a good thing. Knowing there's only one or two ways to kill a boss and then killing that boss is a sense of acheivement in it's self. I do feel as if FFXIII was very linear and personally i have no problem with people complaining about XIII but i just can't stand people who compare it previous games e.g "IT was nothing like VII so it's pretty [&@%!]"...that is just annoying! The whole point of XIII was to take a different approachMattbott wrote:yeah, I saw stuff like that, but tbh i prefer games that allow you to beat them with your own ideas, rather than cranking it up so high only a few combos work - kind of ruins the point of being able to choose paradigms and character combos, if the tough guys can only be beaten one way imoBOETHIABADMAN wrote:See if you use the right paradigms and items etc you can beat pretty much the entire game with mid level paradigm (level 4 usually) I'd say the hardest is Cieth stone 64 :/

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
everyone who plays a game will compare it with previous titles, especially if they are fans.. some will prefer 13 in some ways, some will not
I think 13 did everything is set out to do and did it pretty well, but I missed something from previous versions, cos that's essentially why i bought 13, cos i like the series. I have played some of the earlier versions on a handheld/android and 7/8 on my PS and i dont think the paradigm thing is an issue, just the pure focus on winning difficult post story fights after hours or farming, which i'm not into unless it's fun, like for instance the card game in 8 which was great and left you with a means to earn goodies to help in the hard fights
Right now I'm not sure what to expect from 13-2 so am probably not going to get it until i've seen a bit more
fingers crossed

Re: Final Fantasy XIII-2
The introductory chapter is very annoying. The music gets better the more you advance. The dialogue is slightly more interesting than the last instalment.
Its rented so obviously I'm skipping the cinematics and paying on easy. The gameplay is also slightly better this time.
7/10 for dumbed down back to the future dialogue.

My bro rented this again. Im finding more entertaining now that I know how the crystarium works on this one.
Also, caught a feral behemoth.
Still the story is lame. The dialogue is actually not as bad as I initially thought.
Currently on Oerba.

Im actually enjoying the story so far. I am liking how they incorporated the time travelling I think it is pretty good. Overall it seems like a really good gameStinkyJozef wrote:My bro rented this again. Im finding more entertaining now that I know how the crystarium works on this one.
