Necromancers

Post by strobacaxi »

Hey

I'm thinking about starting a necromancer character, but I have somethings I'd like you guys to help me with:

First, I know the college doesn't condemn necromancy, but should I arise to arch mage? Or should I stay in the shadows? Should I be evil? Or a passion necromancer, or just plain crazy and like to touch dead bodies?
What robes should I wear? Are the necromancer robes good enough for when I get a higher level?
What school besides conjuration should I work on?
Should I get a sidekick? (companion) How would you treat him? Order him around, or be nice to him?
Should I also become master of other conjuration magic or just necromancy?

Thanks :D

1.I would stay to the shadows if I were you. The college may not condemn Necromancy but the majority of Skyrims population seem to do just that. The college has a bad enough reputation without appointing a Necromancer as Arch-Mage.

2.The question about evil is a matter of opinion really. If you immediately think of a necromancer as evil, it may feel more authentic to create and evil one. Or if you are more liberal about necromancy, there is no reason he/she could not be good.

3.Necromancers robes are bad even when you get them at a low level, I find. I would try to(eventually) get Master robes of conjuration. And if you want more "Necromancerish" clothes, the Mourners clothes look quite good.

4.I would work on alteration mainly for the shield spells just incase. Probably enchanting for creating powerful items that are beneficial and casting soul trap is a good way to raise conjuration.

5.Yes, get a sidedkick. A tank type would be best to keep your enemies occupied.

6.That depends really. If you plan on going pure mage, there isnt much need as most other perks in the conjuration tree deal with bound weapons. If you wish to have some melee prowess, they may be useful to you.

Most of this is speaking from expierience as I have a Necromancer character myself and he is quite powerful.
Hope it helps.

-talk to Phinis Gestor and make a decision for yourself
-depends, Necromancy is a powerful tool, there isnt much evil about it since "evil" is relative
-necromancer robes? ;)
-not really but theyre cool
-destruction, illusion
-be nice I guess, since as your companion he must agree with your practice of necromancy correct? till you get Dead Thrall atleast
-uh Necromancy is part of conjuration, you are required to be a conj. master to get the most useful necro. spells

1) Don't become the Arch Mage. Evil would be the best choice for a Necromancer, but that is really up to you.
2) I would start off with enchanted black robes, although most of what conjurers, witches, and necromancers drop is worth nothing.
3) Destruction, focusing on ice spells. Also, Alteration and maybe Illusion would be helpful.
4) A companion . . it depends on who it is.
5) I'd become a master of Conjuration in general if I were a Necromancer. (Although, my witch is going to be a master of Conj, and she's not a Necromancer.)

As I recall you can get unenchanted black mages robes, so this allows you to enchant them yourself.

1. The college is terrible anyway; I'd suggest striking out on your own and finding your own lair.
2. Meh, wear whatever. At high levels, you might want to get a set of Black Robes and enchant them, since most NecRobes are crap.
3. Frost magic, alteration, and restoration.
4. No, you're a necromancer, use corpses as sidekicks.
5. Stick to Necromancy; not that there's really much variety when it comes to conjuration anyway, but if you're summoning atronachs, you might as well cal yourself a conjuror instead of a necromancer.

I would also recommend you take the Ritual stone.

Allows you to raise all dead bodies in your vicinity to fight for you once per day. Including bodies too strong to summon by magic, such as giants. Much fun to be had with this one!
