Re: SOPA is Nonsense.
SOPA means "shut up" or "Oh Really?" and PIPA means pipe or bl*wjob in greek. Λοιπόν πιστεύω ότι αυτοί που ψηφίζουν υπέρ αυτού του ηλίθιου νόμου πρέπει να σωπάσουν και να μου πάρουν μια πίπα. I've already lost onemanga.com and some youtube videos for copyright legislations, i don't plan on losing uesp,explosm,mangashare,9gag and all those great sites out there. If you guys are in the U.S. please do whatever you can about it.Thank you.

Re: SOPA is Nonsense.
Shame how it wouldn't shut those sites down then. The Pirate Bay is run from Sweden, which effectively makes it immune to anything this bill could do other than a DNS block for US citizens, which they could easily get around. That's one of the many reasons for why it's a total joke.Arch-Mage Matt wrote:I don't exactly approve of SOPA, but I like it's original ideals. I wouldn't bat an eye if anyone decided to shut down The Pirate Bay and other hubs where people download stuff illegally. People complain about the economy and jobs, but I can't imagine it helps jobs when hundreds of millions of movies are downloaded illegally...

The US government doesn't want control. US Corporations do. Please keep that in mind.
But I don't think I'm comfortable about a system where corporations decide what to do by essentially buying Representatives.

Re: SOPA is Nonsense.
Trying to prevent internet piracy is laughuably naive. This bill isn't going to stop internet pirates, it's only going to harm legitimate websites, reviewers, and critics, with minimal effects on piracy. This is all I have to say on the matter.

Since it's an abbreviation, I think we can botch that, even though it's a funny coincidence, if its correct.

No it doesn't. Transliteration doesn't really work with abbreviations.

Well, you certainly aren't going to stop it with a bill. The problem is that the whole experience of media and creation has changed. People can either attempt to embrace that, work with a new culture and technology, and try to ignore our changing and changed morals, or wipe it out completely.
There's a good discussion in [this book you will never read] by [this author you don't really care about]. I actually rather enjoyed it. (I Live in the Future: & Here's How it Works. I know one day you guys will read my awesome books!)

Re: SOPA is Nonsense.
See on the internet among us greeks, because most people are bored of writing in the greek letters, because they are not used to it and because you have to put things like this ό ύ ϋ ξ ψ while writing, many times we write in greeklish, which is greek with English letters. For example, "Hello, how are you today?" in greek is "Γεια,πως είσαι σήμερα;" which in greeklish is "Geia pos eisai simera?"AKB wrote:No it doesn't. There are even sites for translating beetween greeklish and greek. http://speech.ilsp.gr/greeklish.So even if they are the transliteration for these words, Sopa and pipa are the exact words in greeklish.I know it is read and pronounced S. O. P. A. and P. I. P. A. but it still is as funny as hell and thought of sharing it.
And i'm offtopic once more.

Re: SOPA is Nonsense.
An irony here is that us pirates wouldn't be affected by the bill. Speaking of which, why can't own a boat in Skyrim?
In all honesty, SOPA and PIPA are starting to scare me. Since UESP isn't endorsed by Beth, aren't we under the blanket of concern suggested by those bills?

That's just one site. Some are coming back up, but others are still down. We'll probably have to wait until about midday tomorrow for everyone to stop the blackout.

But, you must remember it would still affect American sites that wanted to link to UESP, as they could still be prosecuted.Eltee wrote:The server is in Montreal. So... The States can lick UESP's soles.

That would be the worst case scenario for the UESP. But, from my understanding of things, you could still just use one of the site's IPs to visit it.Loocem wrote:But, you must remember it would still affect American sites that wanted to link to UESP, as they could still be prosecuted.Eltee wrote:The server is in Montreal.
