Question about Arrows

Post by DeeJay »

So we can craft all sorts of weapons, but not arrows? I admit I was excited when I learned that we could smith our own weapons and armor, but was disappointed that we can't make arrows (or am I missing something?).

I know I can buy them, and stock up on them from those that I dispatch (and the get more arrows perk helps), but I'm forced to use whatever is offered.

I'm also amused (well actually more annoyed than amused) that if I have like Dwarven, Orc, Steel and Iron arrows, and use my Dwarven arrows for higher damage, when I run out, it automatically loads up Iron instead of going to the next higher damage ones!

So what do you all do to keep yourselves stocked in arrows?

I use a bound bow. You get 100 arrows to go with it each time and with a conjuration perk, it does alot of damage.

I really want to make arrows too, and the ability to enchant them.

I thought for it a while and:

Make ten arrows with 2 firewood and 2 Ingot
Enchant ten arrows at a time: Is a perk in the archery tree
Any effect that can be put onto a weapon

Arrows are easy enough to find for me. I have about 300 iron arrows, 170 Forsworn, 20 ebony, 17 Dwemer, 140 steel, and 60 glass. Approximately. And I have never went out and bought arrows before, only used the ones that I've found.

I go hunting for bandits and visit the Drunken Huntsman in Whiterun every now and again when I'm running low. Or just to visit the proprietor. Gods I love that Bosmer.

Well I've installed the mod (very easy like most TES mods I like, heh), and I'll say, yes, it's easier to buy / loot your arrows for sure. This mod does not make life easier for arrows.
Actually, it's given me a new challenge!

What arrows you can make is based upon your smithing skills, so you can't just make any that you want. Material requirements for iron and steel arrows are easy enough (you just need firewood and iron / steel ingots), but as you want to make better arrows (elven, dwarven, etc) you need rarer ores, and feathers! But not just any feathers, they have to be feathers from a hawk or hagravens, and that part has been a challenge, hehehehe.

So yah, easier to buy / loot, but the mod has given me a new activity that I enjoy!

I find plenty of arrows out and about on the mysterious dead bodies that seem to be lying around wherever I go. I give them all to a follower unless thet are ebony or daedric. I will buy ebony arrows to "even up" a transaction...when a vendor does not have enough money to buy something I want to sell.

A quiver of Daedric Arrows fit the look of my DB assassin's armor setup the best: color, accent, and form factor. Unfortunately, the only source I've found for them is the fletcher in Solitude, but he doesn't always have them and he never has more than a dozen at a time.

The Ebony Arrows are a close, plentiful alternative. But the bulky quiver disrupts the look of the outfit.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Low quality arrows are not hard to find. Getting anything above elven is tricky, though.

I used almost exclusively low-end arrows through the game until I knew the ending was approaching. By that point, I couldn't use up my good arrows. Still, if I would run out of something, I didn't like that it would load up Forsaken arrows. At least give me the basic iron!

Easy way to generate arrows.

Become head of the thieves guild.

Then, pickpocket ALL the arrows off all the thieves who hang out in your hideout.

Then, reverse pickpocket each one a daedric (or whatever you prefer) arrow. Then, when anyone starts practicing his archery down there (there's two places, one in the cistern, and one in the little "practice" room), just go up to the targets, and take the arrows. Boom, instant arrows. It takes a few minutes, but you can get up over a couple hundred, in like 5 minutes. The guys shoot fast, so they fill up the targets pretty quick. I think the max number of arrows visible at any one time, is 15.

I found a quiver of like 7 or 8 daedric arrows about level 15 somewhere, and had just became head of the TG, and did this trick and have never wanted again for daedric arrows.

If you don't want to do the TG quests, you can do the same thing with the soldiers who practice archery in solitude. Seems to be a bit slower, not sure why.

I pickpocket arrows from every guard in every city. I use strictly a bow when fighting even up close combat and have never ran short on arrows.

More of the damage comes from the bow. At higher levels, it's easy enough to glass and ebony arrows. Daedric isn't that much better.
On my assassin character, I save daedric arrows for imortant targets. I always leave the arrow. My killers trademark.

I've been having a lot of fun with the Arrow Smithing mod. The only hard part about it is obtaining the feathers for the more exotic arrows.

One thing about the arrows: bouncing off certain critters. Like skeletons, dwarven machines, etc. I once had my own arrow go flying back past my head when a dwarven spider detonated when I killed it. I was thinking how funny it would be if the arrow had actually hit me, and I'd take damage, hahahaha.

Arrows have *never* been a problem for me - they're everywhere! Are they more scarce on higher difficulty settings? I just loot them from everyone I kill. As someone mentioned, if you do the civil war quest line and loot the bodies of people as you kill them you'll have steel arrows coming out your ears. On my lvl 40some rogue I have 4 digits of iron and steel arrows. I prefer shooting with the Ancient Nord arrows, being Dragonborn and all
