What was your first?

Post by Samaelthedestroyer »

I'm curious which elder scrolls games everyone started with. Myself and many others started with morrowind, oblivion brought tons of new fans, and skyrim will probably introduce a lot of people to the series. What I'm really interested in knowing is how many started with daggerfall or even arena.

First time I ever played an Elder Scrolls game was several years ago when I was at my stepbrother's dad's place and tried it on his XBox. My first character was a completely fail Argonian Mage. I've been told that character still exists.

I kinda wish Daggerfall or Arena would've been my first, 'cause that'd been pretty cool. Arena was the second game I finished, though, after Morrowind. I've been thinking of finishing Daggerfall before I finish Oblivion or Skyrim.

First was Morrowind.

It was this bonus game when I bought a new graphics card. Full version and all.

Though I was little and the game made little sense to me. It wasn't till some years later that I found it again as GOTY and gave it a proper educated play.

(Still haven't finished it)

My first was Oblivion.

I grew up playing games on consoles, and the first Xbox wasn't very popular here, so I "discovered" Elder Scrolls in a friends house, since he had Oblivion.

The funny thing is, I had always wanted a game like it, since I was a kid. It was love at first sight, hahaha!

I finished the main quest some 4 years later :B

Oblivion was my first. I was available for rental at a video club I used to frequent. Just by looking at the cover I knew that I'd love it, so I rented it but my PC couldn't run it back then. A year or so later I found it beneath a pile of games at a friend's house. I played through the entire night.

Morrowind was the first elder scrolls game I bought, and I still remember reading the manual cover to cover so excited to play it, but I was young and I didn't really enjoy it so I gave up really quickly. Then skip forward years and a while after oblivion had come out my brother got a copy too. Started playing and got hooked. After that I decided to give morrowind another chance and found I enjoyed it more than oblivion.

Being a huge fan of Fallout 3 (A personal favorite, and a game I never tired of on the PC, thanks to the [&@%!] obsessed, but occasionally genius modding community of the Nexus Sites.), I naturally looked to see what else Bethesda had made.
(Looking at Arena): Meh... Old game.
(Looking at Daggerfall): Meh... Old game.
(Looking at Morrowind): Ooooh, this looks go- Meh, no ragdoll physics.
(Looking at Oblivion): Meh, it doesn't have shotguns but I'll give it a shot. (Played for about 2 hours. Felt like it was dull, went back to Fallout and shot some things.)
A few months later, long after Fallout 3 had ceased working for me, I decided to give Oblivion another try. I was amazed at how fun it was once you got past the slow start, and soon found myself fully immersed in a fantasy world to my surprise, seeing as fantasy was once my most frequently mocked genre. (Albiet, bashing someone's skull in with a mace will never be as much fun to me as turning my foes into chunky salsa, but after a while, your imagination adds in all the details to make it more fun.)

Morrowind, of course. The first and only, right now, sadly. It never made sense to me when I was 7-8, just some random killing game where you apparently go on killing sprees with game-breaking weapons that you never actually bothered to find, just get from the console. After your bounty, setpccrimelevel 0.

Kinda shallow to base a game on not having a physics engine. (Well before there was ever a physics engine.)

Morrowind was my first, though I played Daggerfall almost immediately after my first taste of Morrowind since my PC couldn't run the latter.

I was (and still am, to an extent) a shallow person back then. After I started playing Oblivion, though, and after I got into it, I went back and gave Morrowind a try. (Bottom Line: SKYRIM, Y U NO HAVE SPEARS AND CROSSBOWS)

I bought Oblivion with a bunch of other RPG's when I first got my xbox 360 back in 2007/8...and so my addiction began.

A friend of mine convinced me to give Morrowind a try because he had heard about how awesome the graphics were and he wanted to see it (his PC couldn't run it). I got very hooked and have been coming back for every installment since.

Morrowind. I got it as a birthday present a few months after it came out, though I had never heard of it. My aunt bought it for me because the guy at the store told her it was one of the best games of the year, and she figured if I didn't like it, I could exchange it for something else. Well I didn't like it at first. It was one of my first real RPG experiences and I didn't know what to do. I didn't understand how the game worked, and I got very frustrated. I would have been 12 at the time, and I was more of an Action-Adventurer gamer back then, so this idea of starting out as a weak nobody and all the skills and the open world and the trading and the travel and the quests and it just was more than I had ever experienced before. I played the game for a few hours, and then an infamous event happened. I was killed by a scrib. That was it, that was the last straw for me.

I put the game down for a few months because I didn't understand. Then I had a friend who told me that he also had the game, and we talked about it a little. I tried it out a game, and with patience, I began to understand it. My Imperial Warrior canvassed the island and raided dungeons. He looted armor and gold from his fallen enemies. He wanted to do it all, so he joined everything he could find, whether he was getting jobs with the Fighter's Guild, or breaking into a home for the Thieve's guild, it didn't matter. He rose quickly through the Blades and was proclaimed Nerevarine. After a year plus of playing, I heard that there was a new edition out, and my old disc was so scratched up, I thought it made sense to get this new copy. So I traded in my old disc, got the GOTY edition, and fell in love all over again. I don't even know how many hours I have accumulated in the last 9 years of Morrowind.

So I was super excited to read in Game Informer magazine that the new game was coming out. Oblivion it was called. And man did I want this game. But I didn't have a 360, and my parent's computer could not run the game, and I didn't have a computer, so I waited. 2 long years I waited, until I was going off to college and got a laptop, and it could run Oblivion. Well I ran out and picked up a GOTY year copy, and was again, super impressed. It was just awesome. The graphics were great, the physics were great, it was just a great game. Sadly, it did not leave the same impression that Morrowind did.

But then a whisper of Skyrim came around, and here we are. 9 years after I discovered Morrowind, I am still loving the Elder Scrolls series.

Oblivion.

I barely even touched the main quest. I mainly raided dungeons and looked at the pretty scenery. Though I was a bit creeped out in Skingrad. That place just rubs me the wrong way.

I got disappointed in the Gothic series when the third game came out, so I "deserted" to the Elder Scrolls series. Oblivion was the first I got, it absolutely ensalved me... I tried Morrowind out too, and it's still on my older PC, but gameplay-wise it's not the same for me (though I liked quite a few things (spears, medium armor, more factions, etc.) and missed them in Oblivion).
Skyrim almost makes me wish for a nuclear winter!

My first was Oblivion, but then I went back and played Morrowind, Daggerfall, and Arena. It's a great series! However, each game is very much different from the rest in the series, which I consider to be a good thing.

Oblivion was my first ES game (and also one of my first X360 games).

I wish I knew about the others before but the first Xbox was never really popular around here. And PC gaming? Everyone that I knew had consoles this, consoles that...

Morrowind was my first. For a long time I never even did any quests, joined no factions, just explored. I didn't go into any major cities and just walked and walked, meeting new people, finding strange stuff, dungeon diving... and that was before I event started any questlines. Morrowind was and is still my favorite game of all time (KotOR a close second).

Morrowind was my first. My girlfriend got me into tabletop and computer RPGs and then we started playing games simultaneously with me on the PC and her on the xbox and then 360 and playing them all the way through. Morrowind was the first we did that with and we've since played through Oblivion, Fable, Fallout 3 and now Skyrim.

I went to Gamestop this summer a few months after getting my Xbox 360 and my first RPG, Fable III. I was obsessed with Fable at the time but didn't want to get another RPG since I had 'finished' Fable III (meh, now i look back at what a crappy game it was). I was fully expecting to buy L.A. Noire but the cashier told us that Noire was a very dirty and bloody game. so he recommended Oblivion 5th anniversary edition, "Which just came out 2 days ago." I said no, i'll settle for Halo 3, even though I'm not even near done playing Halo Reach.
But the Gamestop dude INSISTED I should get OB, so finally I agreed and bought it. I went home, turned it on, and now 7 months later I've put over 200 hours into it and am still obsessed. Thank You Gamestop. :)
