You should go with composite bows, then. Less weight, much easier to nock and keep an arrow nocked. And it doesn't take away from the historical authenticity. Composite bows can be made from various materials in combinations such as fibreglass, wood (too mcuh of a broad selection to name specifics), leather, horn, or even in some cases, ivory.ArotosMarkos wrote:...
Let me tell you, longbows are much too difficult.

I remember the guy at my high school who claimed to be a black belt in kendo, I kicked his ass with a broom stick with no training at all.DorostheConqueror wrote:And who on the internet hasn't studied Kendo? Especially RPG playing dorks like us.
Don't be a sword freak, buy a gun and be a gun nut instead.

As I always say: a sword won't help you when the Russian paratroops land in your backyard. Buy a gun or Ivan's won!Don't be a sword freak, buy a gun and be a gun nut instead.

For a while, I lived in the lovely suburb of Atlanta known as Kennesaw. Most people have never heard of the place, but if they have, it's because in the 80s they passed a law making it mandatory for heads of households to own a firearm and the ammo to fire it. They don't actually enforce it, but the law is still in effect. The violent crime rate dropped by about 50% and is still way lower than any town close by. I like to pretend that I'm better than the average jacked-up-pickup-driving terrorist-hunting-permit-displaying confederate-flag-waving inbred Kennesaw-ian, but it's hard to argue with the data

Though I can say that he mighta been lying (lol), it can be harder to be someone just whackin away than to beat someone trained. Someone famous (Or something) once said the best tactic is chaos (Or something XD)Daedra Prince wrote:I remember the guy at my high school who claimed to be a black belt in kendo, I kicked his ass with a broom stick with no training at all.DorostheConqueror wrote:And who on the internet hasn't studied Kendo? Anyway, just like in chess, if you don't know what you're doing, it's harder to predict your movements, since they aren't going to be the 'expected' moves of someone who knows what they're doing.

Sounds like a down south woman, you should see my truck. Last time i stayed in atlanta was for a concert and i had to stay in the worst "hotel" ive ever stayed in in my life. It had a kick mark on the bathroom door where someone kicked the door in, and various shoddy spackle jobs on the wall from the various holes knocked in the wall. That was also the first time in a long time i saw an old school bed with "magic fingers"Deandra wrote:For a while, I lived in the lovely suburb of Atlanta known as Kennesaw. Dont mean to get off topic but two of you said you take kendo. What do yall think of it? Ive been training in a form of kung fu since '04 and i love it. Its great for real life situations rather than sport like many taekwondo schools.
However, being a nerd, i want to learn to wield weapons as well. My school only teaches butterfly knives, kali, bow, and dragon pole. Id like to learn how to use a blade for nerd purposes as well. Isnt kendo "the way of the blade" or someting like that. Id like to learn weapons without having to learn another fighting system if thats possible. Any advice?
Kendo is traditional Japanese sword fighting (Often called Japanese fencing). It isn't something you can generally use on the street, unless you keep a sword or practice pole with you at all times (I'd love to walk around with a sword strapped to my hip but alas.. my PD wouldn't)leroybrown wrote:Sounds like a down south woman, you should see my truck. I dont want to spend several years learning hand forms first though cause theyd never get used. I understand this may be mandatory as it is for most schools, but is kendo like that? Or is kendo like you start training with swords soon as you sign up?
