Which one is which? Sounds like both are Jane, and neither are Nancy!

No, Nancy would down a few ales with you, rob a house or two for ya in the daytime, give you some loving in the nighttime, and sing boisterously for your buddy's gang of cutthroat street urchins at the drop of a hat. She knew how to take care of herself, but she didn't get in the way and didn't cause no trouble- well, unless you liked beating children, then you might have to kill her, but that's a point against YOU, not her.

And what would Emma do? Nothing. Act all prissy and then swoon, maybe.

Yes, but I'll ruining the end of the book; Communism's utter drivel. No wait, that's not a conspiracy theory!! [cue laughter track]
Hey, and Doros; you telling me you don't like a good swoon now and then? Maybe you just can't make anyone swoon? Hmmm??

I make plenty of people swoon. Not sure if it's for the right reasons, but by golly I do it!

Still, I'd much rather they were off stealing DVD players and gold necklaces for me.

Thanks for all the replies. I love books.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Jane Austen's overrated (usually I get a lot of grief for saying that). The plots of her books basically boil down to: posh bird, who's fallen on hard times (relatively hard times - she's still better off than most people) tries to find Mr. right. That's it!

As for Dan Brown, his books are incredibly formulaic, often with honking great factual errors (in particular Angels & Demons), but they're sooo entertaining.

Currently, I'm reading French History and Society – the Wars of Religion to the Fifth Republic by Roger Mettam and Douglas Johnson. I often prefer non-fiction to fiction. I did read Eco’s Foucault’s Pendulum some time ago. It wasn’t a bad book, as I rather get a laugh out of the “usual suspects” of conspiracy theory, but I found it somewhat too tightly connected and “just-so” to be completely satisfying. I haven’t read the daVinci Code yet, and might not. Every review and summary I’ve encountered seems to suggest its nothing more than a fictionalisation of Baigent, Leigh, and Lincoln’s the Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, regardless of what the high court in Britain found. Since several people have mentioned Jane Austen, I have a question (though a very tangental one): Many of you must be familiar with Jane Austen’s contemporary, Emily Brontë, and her novel Wuthering Heights. Well, apparently someone wrote a book a few years ago, telling the story of how Heathcliff earned his fortune in America. Is anyone familiar with that book and can tell me (us) who wrote it and what the title was? Thanks.

Haven't heard of it but a quick google suggests that maybe it's this one?:

It seems that Lin Haire-Sargeant wrote a few books around that, or maybe just all the same one with diff titles depending on the country or something?

I'm reading posts..... posts...... posts..... and more posts....

Then I rapidly switch to read a strange book about how a woman is in a coma, mistaken for dead, her body is stolen, she wakes up and runs away, she makes her way to a pop singer's house, and forgets everything that happened before she was kidnapped. Strangely, everyone is trying to convince her that she is their relative or something like that.

Okay...I found the info. I called the person who first mentioned the book, and it is apparently:
  • Heathcliff: Return to Wuthering Heights
by Geffry Caine, published by Knopf in 1978
    ISDN 0-394-41794
at least according to my friend Richard, whose personal book collection is so large that he keeps track of it with a database! He also commented on the odd spelling of Geffry as being “rather precious”. Richard mentioned something about Heathcliff making part of his fortune in America by pushing people out of windows on contract. :Twisted Evil:

Oh, another couple of good books are the Webster Dictionarys...soo many words......

Another good sires is...The Spiderwick cronicles...
...and diplomacy continues to fail. Their ears fall deaf, and their eyes fall blind, yet they are still not mute. They will not know their errors. Only what they believe themselves. But we... we shall not be silenced.

The Wheel of Time series, by Robert Jordan. I've read it through several times, and am just now starting on audiobooks.

I'll read all 12 again before the last one comes out next year. I'm such a nerd.

Just finished Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Reilly. It's awesome - the book that The Da Vinci Code could have been.

Dunno. After several weeks they all start to look the same to me. Dad keeps an entire collection (there's at least 5 books on each computer language).

That's what you get for being the child of a language teacher mother and programmer dad. A computer linguist.
