Find another house. The one from Riften is the worst in terms of quests. You have to finish a lot "fetch this" tasks.

Re: Buying a house is annoying.
Yeah...
Why don't you just stop trying to get it, then?
It's not going to make it quicker if you complain.
But I believe there are three quests (or misc. objectives) and some favors if you want to be a thane. The house is related to that in some way.
Vlindrel Hall in Markarth costs the same.
And Breezehome in Whiterun is cheaper.

Re: Buying a house is annoying.
If you just need a place to stash your stuff, go to Markath. Do the House of Horrors quest there. Its the Daedric quest for Molag Bal, and you get a "free" house. You won't actually own the property, but the containers never reset, and no other NPCs will ever enter the place, so they won't steal your stuff. And you can do it at any level.

Re: Buying a house is annoying.
I think it's 8000...
But I digress. To become a Thane, you need to complete the three skooma trade thingamajiggies, and complete 5 (I think) favors for the inhabitants of the Rift. And buy the house. You probably have to do some of the others to be able to buy the house.

It's five favors in all the major holds.

Bro-tip: giving a beggar a gold counts as a task for a hold's inhabitant. But only once per hold.

Re: Buying a house is annoying.
If you don't have 8000 you can get it for as little as 5000. It will cost the amount of gold you have in your sack if you have less than 8000. So say you have 6789 gold that is how much it will cost. You actualy have do do a little more than 5; I rember last night I had done 5+ after the skooma ones and still didn't get it then did a little more and got it. Also there is a glitch where if you enter your home before talking to the jarl after you buy it you won't get named thane. That happend on my first character. Although I think that only happens if you try and become thane after the old one gets replaced andJVElEven wrote:I think it's 8000...

Re: Buying a house is annoying.
start the quest in the collage of winterhold and they give you a free place. I stored a ton of stuff there untill i bought the house in whiterun. Wanted the house in whiterun because its across the street from the blacksmith. I never had anything come up missing from the collage though so if youre just looking for a place to stare stuff...

I'm an overachiever. Every time I got to an option to buy a house in any town,l I had already done enough quests to be all set with that objective.

The only containers that are safe in the Winterhold room are the wardrobes afaik.zodicus wrote:start the quest in the collage of winterhold and they give you a free place. Re: Buying a house is annoying.
I was feeling kinda whiny and annoyed when I made this thread. I didn't even care about grammar like I usually do. Anyway it wasn't too much trouble. It just annoyed me that it took more than I thought it would, and I didn't want to do many town leaving quests cuz I couldn't carry much loot.

Just get BreezeHome, or do the Blood On The Ice Quest and get the house in Windhelm.

I just completed Blood On The Ice and still do not have the option to purchase. Hmmm.....I'll check again tonight as I may have been under the influence when I completed that quest.Theificka wrote:Just get BreezeHome, or do the Blood On The Ice Quest and get the house in Windhelm.
The house in Windhelm.......are you required to join the Stormcloaks in order to purchase that one? I thought I saw that posted here previously. I'm on an x-box so mods are not an option.

The Solitude house is the best. The most expensive but the quests to get it are awesome.

Re: Buying a house is annoying.
Really? Honeyside has got to be one of the easiest houses to buy in the game. The Wiki Honeyside page has this info:
"The house becomes available for purchase during a quest for the Jarl of Riften. The quest can be started at the Fishery outside Riften; look for an Argonian woman (Wujeeta) working inside the Fishery. However, you need not contact her at the Fishery to start the quest since she can be contacted outside work hours to initiate the quest as well.
Note that the Jarl will not even mention buying the house until you have completed the associated quests Helping Hand, The Raid and Supply and Demand, and also built a reputation with Riften citizens by doing a few general quests for the people of the town. Honeyside must be purchased from her steward Anuriel in order to complete the quest, and receive the title Thane of Riften."
This page lists all the possible Thane of The Rift quests available to you. Honestly, a lot of them are so simple that it only takes a few minutes to become Thane once you've done the three Skooma-related quests for the Jarl.

Re: Buying a house is annoying.
Although somewhat answered, here is answer clearly:
For a house, you need to (1) do a favor to the local Jarl, and (2) five (5) favor quests for other inhabitants (except Whiterun). Some of favor quests are really time-consuming, for example collecting 20 nirnroots & deathbells & nightshades for Ingun, 10 firesalts to blacksmith, 5 ice wraith teeth to food trader, gems and such for others. There possibly are some easier and quicker tasks to make.Dunmer999 wrote:About how many quests do I have to complete to buy the freaking cheap house in Riften? i've been spending hours on it already. Re: Buying a house is annoying.
i'm going for honeyside with my new character
breezehome was my favourite place on my other playthrough, i'd recommend it as you can buy it after a very short way into the main quest
if you give riften to the imperials in season unending, then you can buy if from Mr Black Briar without all the arsing around helping people

Re: Buying a house is annoying.
i beat the imperial side of the civil war quest, and was able to purchase the riften house. however, unless i did it wrong, you do not become "thane" so the room that would have become your house carls remains empty. On a side note, does anyone know if this is fixable? i have not done any of the original thane quests so should i try those? thanks
