past tense is really quite interesting, its either highly irregular, or the verbs are split into multiple classes, i've seen static suffixes, stem changes, and even no changes with one word that can mean present or past. there's also a few that have a perfect form/supine.

on a side note, it seems that there's two forms of 'to be'. los, which is used for general x is y, and then theres also kos, which is more of 'to exist'

Ooh sorry Avron, that would have been better, tbh I didn't even think if it

Irothur, check my post again, its definately ROT, not ROK. Just a heads up :D

A seperate wiki does sound like a cool idea, and I wouldn't mind getting my hands on that font of yours. I've got the one from the uesp wiki, but it doesn't sound as comprehensive. Should we keep putting up translations and so on, or wait for your wiki to be ready?

oh, my wiki is more like just a neater notebook for me to write stuff down on, its not meant to be put up as its own thing.
and i got the one under the "dragon_script.ttf" header on the discussion page of skyrim:dragon alphabet

edit:
bah, bomeone made the connection before me, but in the discussion page on dragon language, theres something about 'het kos dovahhe' "here be dragons"

which made me think back to a passage untranslated on the alphabet page, with the word drogge, with drog meaning lord... its a possibility that for some words doubling the final consonant and adding -e creates the plural

also, on the language page theres a word, briinahii, which im assuming is an example of how the possessive is formed, as briinah is sister

edit 2: ustengrav wall
NONVUL BRON DahMaaN DaaR ROT DO FIN
FODiiS BORMah Nii LOS HeyV DO ENOOK
MUN Wah LahNey VOTH ahKRIN ahRK SIN
LEH ROK FeiM VODahMIN KOTIN VULOM

Noble nord, Remember these ROT(words?) of the Hoar Father, it is duty of each man to live bravely and SIN (free?),
lest he fade, forgotten into darkness

i've gotten pretty good at reading the dragon alphabet straight out now, i only have to look up the odd letter or two occasionally

I do have access to the translations for all the Word Walls in-game, so I'll try and transpose them and post here when I get the chance, maybe this weekend, seeing as I have my last exam tomorrow and then another important assessment on Friday.

i've noticed that pretty much all word walls use final S instead of final Z in some words. when i first translated this it was "...not in glorious combat, statue at man's..." and it really confused me until i noticed NUZ meaning "but"

I'm loving these word wall translations, but in case anyone's interested a lot of the dialogue the draugrs and Dragons in the game speak seems to make sense when translated as well.

I've gathered these from another source I posted them at. They're all from near the end of the MQ so
Spoiler:
Alduin: "Dovahkiin, hin kah fen kos bonaar = Dragonborn, your pride will be humble." "Pahlok joorre! Hin kah fen kos bonaar = Allsky mortal! Your pride will be humble" "Zu'u unslaad! Zu'u nis oblaan! = I'm unending! I cannot end!" (He states this loudly after you deplete his health bar and before exploding.) DRAGONS - After the fight: "Alduin mahlaan! = Alduin fell [at?] last!" "Thu'umii los nahlot = Shouting is silenced" "Mu los vomir! = We are unallegianced!" "Dovahkiin los ok dovahkriid! = Dragonborn is his dragonslayer!" PAARTHURNAX: "Alduin wahlaan daanii = Alduin built a/an [daanii?]""Krosis = Sorrow""So los nid fahdon = So is no friend)""Sahrot krongrah = Mighty conquerer in battle""Niid koraav zeim dinoksetiid = No summer joins through deaths time""Zu'u tiiraaz ahst ok mah = I'm displeased at his fall""Grik los lein = Such is the world""Goraan! = Earth animal!)" ODAHVIING: "Thuri, Dovahkiin = Overlord, Dragonborn""Pruzah wundunne wah Wuth Gein = Good grace to The One"
^ I'm sure those are sloppy, unfinished translations. Some of you may be able to make more sense of them. I've been tired and pressed for time.

I figured I'd mention that "Su'um ahrk morah", the phrase used quite often by Parthuurnax, means "Breath and focus".

"Dren" means patience (Used as a command). A certain elder Dragon kept saying that to me.

Oddly, "Dren" was also a powerful Hlaalu family name in Morrowind. The Duke ofd Vvardenfell was Vedam Dren and his brother Orvas Dren was a powerful crime lord. I wonder if this is a remnant of Dragon language that survived in mortal races. We know Dragons ones lived in Morrowind too.

Hello all

I am not stopping (too busy), I just dropped by to post this in order to help with your translations of the Dragon language.

It is a little research I have done for a future skyrim mod I plan to make. I started out using the various online translations, including the one on this site but found lots of inaccurate translations and contradictions between all sites and the game it self. So I turned to the game for my information rather than trust the online translations.

All of these come from the game, and anything marked (?) was spoke in the game but may not be the meaning of the words, there was room for error in those. Anything without a (?) is translated directly in the game in to english and is there for accurate (no room for error).

If you run all the entries without a question mark in this list over the wikis own list, you will see the errors.

Rotmulaag = the Words of power
thur = tyranny
Nust ni hon = they would not listen (?)
vonmindoraan = incomprehensible (?)
Vomindok = I do not know (?)
Thu'um = Shout
sahrot hunne = They where mighty in their day. Even to attempt defeat Alduin (Brave ?)
wuth fadonne = my friends
Tiid Ahraan = Time Wound
Tiid krent = Time was
Tiid do amativ = time flows ever onward
Meyye = Forever lost (?)
Mulaag unslaad = The Dragonrend shout was used to cripple Alduin. But that was not enough. Ok mulaag unslaad (?)
Viik nuz ni kron = Yes and No/aldruin was not truly defeated (?)
Monahven = Throat of the world
Wuldsetiit los tahrodiss = Even we who ride the currents of time cannot see past Times's End (?)
kalpa = Perhaps this is simple the egg of the next kalpa (world ?)
Lein vokiin = Would you stop the next world from being born ?
Hadrimme = Minds
Joore = mortals
Dov = dragons
Alduin komeyt tiid = What else would you seek? Aldium and Dovahkiin return together (Aldium cometh time ?)
tinvaak = you would not come all this way for a tinvaak with an old dragon (talk ?)
Prodah = I have been expecting you (?)
Dovah Sos = Dragonblood
Sossedov los mul = The Dragonblood runs strong in you (?)
Volaan = Tell me, why do you come here volaan? (intruder ?)
Strunmah = Mountain
Drem Yol Lok = Greetings, wunduniik. I am Paarthurnax (standard greeting to a stranger ?)
Wuld = Whirlwind
Ro = Balance
Fus = Force
Yol = fire
su'um = breath
Feim = Fade
Unslaad zii = Ponder the Spirit (?)
Su'um ahrk morah = Let that meaning fill you (this is repeated 3 times but su'um definitely means breath ?)
Kel = Elder Scroll
hofkahsejun = Dragonsreach
Pahlok = arrogant
krongrah = victory
Keizaal = Skyrim
vahzen = Cause (rightness of my thu'um
Sahrot = Mighty
vessesetiid = The currents of time
Krosis = pardon
sillesejoor = Souls of the mortal dead
Unslaad = Innumerable
grahmindal = strategem
Viing = Winged Snow Hunter

Additional information.

The Draugh also often speak Dragonese whilst attacking you, if you listen, you will hear the language spoke as a living language. Whilst the books in the game say they think they served the dragons, all evidence points to them actually being the soldiers of the dragons and there for allies of the dragon priests too.

One more thing su'um means breath but is used in sentences such as your Su'un is strong, refering to the players ability to persuade a jaal to help. If taken literally it means "your breath is strong" (meaning you have bad breath) but taken in context of the sentence, it means to talk or persuade the jaal to help (whiterun dragonsreach quest).

So for Dragons Su'um means Breath but Talk, Persuade and Breath appear to be all the same things to a Dragon. To Breath is to talk too, Persuade, laugh, anything you do that comes out of your mouth but is not a shout. Or so it appears.

Hope it helps.

Hey, all.

Someone on a different website linked me to this thread, and I figured I should give you a heads-up about my Draconic-English Translation utility. It's still a work-in-progress, but works well enough for now.

What does it mean and is it related to the dragon priest krosis?

In context, it means "sorry" or "apologies". Paarthurnax says this when he feels he has spoken too much in order to lengthen your conversation with him, for example. I don't think Draconic is very rigid in its definitions. Su'um means "breath" but I wouldn't be surprised if su'un is a variant of this and means "voice", which makes sense when Paarthurnax congratulates you on your skills of persuasion.

I'm reviving this. I've been trying to get images of all the word walls onto the wiki (you can view the gallery of them here). As I've been doing this, I've noticed that virtually none of the walls seem to have been translated, the only one that is translated is the one at Bleak Falls Barrow I believe. I want to change this. However, to further complicate matters, these also need to be transcribed before translations are possible. If anyone is willing to help, I would greatly appreciate the effort. You should be able to just read the language right off of the images of the stones, which should save you time, but if you can't, I'm willing to retake any of these images.

Actually many of them have been translated and appear on the wiki pages for the individual shouts. Check out the Dragon Shouts page and click on the name of the shout in the table to get to the individual page.
