You've done it now, American government. [The NDAA]
The NDAA bill was signed recently. What is the NDAA you ask? The ability to arrest American citizens without a charge or fair trial. You know those little girls that are on the potential terrorist list? Obviously that's not a secret anymore. They can get arrested straight from their un-warrented body starch at the airport.
You can't tell me that America is not tuning into a dictatorship...

Re: You've done it now, American government.
I think we can discuss this civilly without using blanket statements about dictatorships...just keep that in mind going forward to all who would like to post, please and thank you.
That said, I am not educated on this current bill in its entirety (my current events radar has slipped lately under more important and completely self-centered issues), but I do know the NDAA is passed just about every fiscal year. The President has three options when signing a bill: do nothing, sign the bill, or veto the whole bill. Regardless, the changes to this one are certainly a bit disgruntling. For instance, what defines being suspected of terrorism? My oldest brother is on a "no fly" list and is forced to undergo long security checks if he doesn't also supply his middle initial, simply because someone else with the same name was somehow deemed suspicious.
Of course, we live in a different world, in which the possibility of terror at home has not been well received or contemplated by a government who is more or less used to fighting its wars away post the Civil War days. The fact is we live in a very easily interconnected world nowadays, where the problems of our neighbors are our problems, and we are struggling as a global society to understand what that means, both at home in the details and away in the bigger picture. How much of our personal liberties ought we to surrender if we are to be safe, and is that justified? Furthermore, is it the answer? (I would, of course, say no; terrorism is much more complicated than that and requires equality across the board to fight it. It's harder to give up our comforts and share than to stay at the top.)
But that's not even the point, really. As a government, we cannot face or change problems concerning health care, education, poverty, and unemployment, and yet we can so quickly sign bills like this without contemplating the long term effects? That's the real kicker to me. I got nothin'.
PS - Since it's not really our nature to allow political threads, I swear to the high heavens that if anyone even makes this into a bashing thread, I will close it and give you all a stern talking to before you can click "submit."

Re: You've done it now, American government. [The NDAA]
I do think as the end of this year get closer, that we will start seeing more and more things like these, as we start heading into a monarchy, slowly at first, of Martial Law. Just like Avron said, if you don't get into conspiracies, that's fine. Just don't go telling me that I'm full of it
. By the way, if any of you are so thick that you still are anticipating 12.21.12, don't. That number is used to indicate the slow down-slope of our Democracy. Personally, I can't believe this got passes, but when I think about it, a bill doesn't need to be "passed" anymore, now does it?
Just like George W. Bush signed us into the association with our entire continent, including Mexico and Canada, so that we are basically all one when we get down and dirty. Next, we have to also worry that this isn't an American threat. Just like the plan states, we have the Asian society, the African-European society, and the fillers for all of the rest. I have a bad feeling about this next year.

Re: You've done it now, American government. [The NDAA]
The UN was formed so that it didn't have to be America. We are slowly going into a dictatorship.
First of all, I'd love to explain to you guys something. The REAL government, not the president, the senators, the actual government, is a devil-worshipping fascist. Anyway there will be three classes that we will be separated into when the time comes:
-Yellow: Civilians, those who never knew about this, either a "616" on their right hand or forehead and forced into slavery, or killed.
-Blue: Celebrities who have known about this for a long time, they will be killed.
Red: People who work for the celebrities, those who may or may not know about this. Basically the same as Yellow.
We need to start growing out own food before the new health care bill kicks in. What's with the health care bill? Well, as it states in the new health care bill (you can look it up yourself), all persons will be subject to being RFID microchipped by a certain date. That date is still being decided, or is being hidden from us. These chips will be implanted into our bodies (if they haven't already, as my mother's friend has been PROVEN to have one by an eastern medical doctor) and will be our only form of currency. With a microchip, you can but a house, get a job, and get food. Now, while I expect anyone reading this to decline it (you will be able to), this is going to be more difficult than that. See, without the microchipped you will be declined your most valuable asset: FOOD. You will starve without the microchip.
Just to give some insight, my mom's friend was an avid conspiracy theorist, and has always talked to my mom about stuff like this. Now, she's around 75 years old, so people assume she's nuts. That's their trick. She has "sworn" things have just disappeared around her house. This is most likely cause by the law that right now states that if they "suspect" you could be a terrorist (just like the OP, I'm seeing a pattern, as since there IS no terrorism, only manipulation, making us feel that the middle-east and terrorists are bad, while our government sucks all of their oil out of the ground), they can break into your house, and by doing that, can plant drugs on your house, or even downright kill you.
I could go on forever, but I'm going to stop with this current post.

I've long since abandoned U.S politics, and all of America, really. I don't see the point - the US seems not to care about anyway else, so I'm not going to care about them. That being said, it's inevitable in a country that cares more about money than it does about people.

Unlike common belief, America is not out to conqueror the other continents. No, they are on America's side. Together, most of the whole world will be held captive on our own ground.
@Scribbane Like I said, just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean it's not true. And please don't say that it's all crap. Thanks!

Wow. And I thought America was the land of the free, the home of democracy - even though that title belongs to Greece - and whatever else it calls itself. This is a rant against the leaders, not the people. I mean, the Republicans are so retarded that they don't even want free healthcare. And yet people continue to vote for them.

Nothing I said in that post is untrue. Capitalism is a system in which humans are assets, not people. It's a system where people provide for themselves, and the state stays out of their affairs.scribbane wrote:I'm sorry what? This thread's gonna get locked because of people like you. Not to mention, I don't see what is wrong about that post, either. It isn't offensive to anybody. It's like saying Christianity condemns homosexuality, or that Buddhists believe that people who are in a poor position in this life (the crippled, the homeless, etc.) are that way because they did something wrong in a previous life. You mightn't like it, but it's completely true. If the fact offends you, change your beliefs.

No, I'm sorry. You're wrong. Saying that America is a country that doesn't seem to care about anybody else, and that we value money more than people IS offensive. And who are you to tell me to change my beliefs because you insulted me? I'm done with this.

America is not the tooty-fruity country some of us grew up in. Just like the saying goes, don't let your enemy know that you are ahead until it is too late. Same thing with the government.

I'm fairly certain that it's perfectly legal in most countries to arrest a person without a fair trial anyway. I imagine it would be fairly difficult to assemble a jury, barristers and a judge at a crime scene while the soon-to-be arrestee is free to run off. As for the motives, pah. People could get arrested for throwing funny looks at moody officers before anyway, and seeing as you can be arrested on suspicion of an act without any immediate evidence to back it up it won't change a lot. Of course, that's assuming the opening comment was true.

America has ignored the UN on countless occasions, such as the invasion of Iraq. What else represents the rest of the world better than the UN?

First, as a country, I did not mean the American people. I mean American politics. As for that, most American political parties do not care about people. It, unlike most developed countries, is not a welfare state, and compared to most European countries, suffers greatly, in terms of gealth, social mobility, and countless other measures. Despite this, the American economy is one of the biggest in the world. So - you tell me how the American government is prioritising the people?
