Skyrim multiplayer now. And they said it couldn't be done.

I have no idea of the implications of this. How he even did it. If it works. Is it real. Should I be excited? Don't you need servers for this?
My god people said it would be impossible. The CK isn't even out yet. What is going on!

That seems to be awfully buggy...Plus not sure I'd be comfortable with having to use authentication on a mod.

Oh great so you want to share all of your spoils with everyone.
You want to be attacked by other people who get their giggles by ruining others gameplay.
You want to be finished with Skyrim within a year usually around 6 months because of the people make your experience crappy.
You want to lag more on account of having other people load into the game you're sharing with them.
You want to play on much lower graphics considering Skyrim is already so big.
Online MMO's ruin games, people ruin games. Now you're going to make room for Chinese Gold Bots and Slave Labor because you are incredibly lazy to farm your own and most likely will ruin your credit score by given your information out to the gold sites and even though you're going to get what you pay for, in the end it will backfire because they will use that information to hack into your account and take back not only what you bought from them but also what you somehow earned and once the Game Moderators felt you went past your usefulness will ban you but you will return with a different IP address before your punishment is up I'm sure.
Yes Multiplayer there is a reason I stopped with them. Heck I only log on to my Guild Wars account to get the hats and that's it.
You my friend love drama over your own personal gaming experience should you choose to go multiplayer. But if you're a male and you do Marijuana and you think of women as bed slaves and should be nude all the time then you will find acceptance in 90% of groups you will meet.

Re: Skyrim multiplayer now. And they said it couldn't be don
^right on
rpgs (pen and paper and video games) have never been about pvp, they are about adventure and creativity, pvp does not cater to either of those things, balancing pvp consumes so much manpower in the making of mmo's, and makes dicks out of players, and takes all the fun of roleplay out of it, it's about loopholes and putting in the hours, and a modicum of skill perhaps, just so you can be a bigger nerd than the other guy.
i wont deny the adrenaline rush of pvp, i just think its better suited to level playing fields, like halo or modern warfare or whatever.

Re: Skyrim multiplayer now. And they said it couldn't be don
Oh don't forget the best ones ((which are usually the ones who are first to the high levels and quick to get the best gear even if that means exploiting bannable loopholes in the system)) Usually have alot of money and pay others to level them and get them gear and once they get that gear they become horders of all the good gear and will only give it away for a huge inflated price ruining the game economy or they will keep it to ensure they are the best or that their gear gets updated and remains that way.umber hulk wrote:^right on

It happens in.every.game
Whether it be Pay to Play ((Wow is the worst considering it demands the player to sit on their ass and grind worse than any game in my opinion and you're paying for it too -.- )) Buy to play ((Like Guild Wars)) or Free to play ((These are the worst because they rely heavily on cash shop and if you don't got the cash then you're royally screwed over in getting and staying at high levels on account of not having the best gear and being picked on all the time from those that do))
And you're usually spending a lot more on Free to Play than on Pay to Play. It's really sad if you think about it.
RPG's are the way to go. I miss playing 3.0 DnD

I like that people can manage to put this stuff together but, With that said, I'm gonna pass on this mod. I'd rather have an online mod that allowed you to create your own game and only allow people you wanted in. Not interested in playing Skyrim with 1,000 other people. I like MMOs, but not for Skyrim.

Re: Skyrim multiplayer now. And they said it couldn't be don
I think no one has said it is technically impossible, but the Skyrim (and Oblivion) game mechanics are designed for single playing and they probably do not make a good multi-player game experience. Hacking them enough would do the trick, but then the game would not be the same anymore.dtmwerks wrote:My god people said it would be impossible.
Re: Skyrim multiplayer now. And they said it couldn't be don
They did the same with oblivion. no big deal. But it is still a complete piece of crap mod.
And if online play was so impossible, does that mean modern warfare doesn't exist?

Meh. As long as it's a mod and kept in the hands of the community, it won't ruin Skyrim. I'm totally opposed to World of Skyrim schemes, but hey, this seems harmless and enough, and props to the modder. No way I'm doing anything THAT intrusive to MY game, though.
Whaddaya wanna bet Steam throws a fit, blames it on the messing with core files, and baleets his ass?

If this actually works it looks like fun. Usual MMOs aside I think it'd be fun to just gang up with some friends and do crazy stuff. I'm still doubtful whether they'll get it to work properly though.

See, the problem here is with the nature of the assets being changed. Adding resources like meshes or textures or script is normally OK, but DRM monoliths like Steam generally don't take too kindly to messing with core executables... especially executables that apparently bypass Steam's control over the application. Steamless installers are enough to get you banned in most "official" channels, so a non-Steam exe that potentially cuts out a huge future source of revenue for the cloud-computing-happy martinets?
I'm not saying they WILL [&@%!] this guy. But I won't be surprised if something happens.

Re: Skyrim multiplayer now. And they said it couldn't be don
There's been a few attempts for multiplayers on all the TES games by modders. Some are all right; most are buggy as heck. Noble attempts, though. I like my TES to be a solitary experience - meaning nobody's there to bother me in the world, unless I explicitly let them or hack them into bits afterwards for disrupting my peace - because I play it for the story, but these are always real nice attempts.
Doros raises a good point, too. Steam is all about mods doing what mods are supposed to do: change textures, add little features, quests, characters. Opening up things like this? Not so much so. I imagine they would be picky, given how interwoven they've become with Skyrim, but one never knows.

I think a lot of people are missing the main point. This is not an MMO mod - it's a multiplayer mod. This means you will only be playing with other players you want to play with.
I for one, would love to go exploring with another friend or two, maybe another mage so that I can focus on archery/melee stats while he can heal us and such. There are a lot of spells already that boost follower stats and they could easily be implemented into this multiplayer experience.
The CK isn't even out, so for everyone that is saying it is buggy - yes it is. However, the oblivion version was not horrible (but a bad experience nevertheless) but it was started almost a year after oblivion was released and went along very very slowly. If this modder can do this much without the CK, we're probably looking at a pretty good 2-4 player co-op experience by late 2012.
Pretty good if you ask me. I might explore with random people, but since it's not an MMO, I would prefer to explore with friends who also enjoy roleplaying. It'll make traveling (not fast traveling) all the more exciting when you can all team up and kill a frost troll together. Not to mention the laughs to be had when some makes a stupid move and dies right in front of you.
The people who make these mods are intelligent people as well. If, in their feedback they get information on griefers, they will probably include the option to turn friendly fire off.
Makes me glad I also got the PC version of the game.

but, as a team based co-op thing, isnt there an awful lot to take care of? like multilpying the numbers of mobs etc? wouldn't it just be way to easy?
i would love to see such a game, officially, and i wish half of the work going in to mmos could be directed that way.
it's odd that that most basic of rpg formulas is so hard to find, is neverwinter nights the last game to attempt it?
just like games workshop games, all these naff rts's and shooters coming out, but no basic turn-based battle game where you get to do up an army list and then fight it out. why?

I won't play a mod-created TES multiplayer, i'll wait for Bethesda to finally get around to making their own MMO hopefully.
To the poster who was really against MMOs, they are not all bad and if done correctly they can be excellent. WoW is a really bad example, FFXI was truly great, unfortunately it's very old now. I met my best friend through FFXI.

Or you could make all the enemies harder - like an extension past master difficulty. I always hated how bandits could be killed with a single sword swing while bandit thugs (which looked pretty much the same) took 30 swings.umber hulk wrote:but, as a team based co-op thing, isnt there an awful lot to take care of? like multilpying the numbers of mobs etc? wouldn't it just be way to easy?

Re: Skyrim multiplayer now. And they said it couldn't be don
I had no idea multiplayer was modded in oblivion! Guess that's what happens when I'm in my narrow console world. And I recall many many topics about "computer experts" spouting how impossible it would be to mod skyrim to the point of multiplayer. Guess they were wrong!
Yeap it looks extremely buggy, I don't think anybodies first few versions are ever non-buggy. Bethesda can attest to that. Also not sure if this is for me. Corridors in dungeons are so cramped. If anything, it'd just be for the lawls for me and one other friend to occasionally meet each other and fight each other. Or the arena sounds interesting.
Would be interesting though if my gf wanted to do this and we could actually go adventuring together/sleep in the same house. Treasure sharing is not as stressful as you guys make it out to be. There isn't that much good treasure after a while unlike oblivion, cause everything you craft yourself. And if it's a good friend/gf, surely there are some rules you will follow. Not like WoW or other silly games.
Unless this multiplayer is saying you HAVE to play with literally everyone, i wouldn't want that. Just with a select one or two MAYBE.
