Planet of the Apes
Recently I've become very interested in the Imga, or Great Apes of Valenwood. Obviously this book has a little bit of information on them, as seen in the lore article, but I was wondering if there was any mention of them within game dialogue, or possibly through anyone at Bethesda?
I suppose they are one of those rarely-mentioned races, but unlike the Maormer which aren't encountered that often, the Imga are encountered by both mer and men within Valenwood, or at least they were before the latest rise of the Dominion.
Any information, thoughts or theories are welcome. Thanks guys.

I searched the Imperial Library (pretty informative, although not all of it's information might be true), and came up with this.

This one's better, doesn't include forum threads. All that info should be 'true.'addictedtomorrowind wrote:I searched the Imperial Library (pretty informative, although not all of it's information might be true), and came up with this.
Outside of the PGE, we have only a few mentions on Imga. The Red Kitchen Reader has a bit of info, as does the Dreadful Theft of Sun's Dusk Ale. I don't think they're ever mentioned in game.

Re: Planet of the Apes
Thanks to both of you. I feel like I should have been more active and just searched the Imperial Library and other sources myself, but I figured others here could navigate these resources more admirably.
Little information overall, but its all very interesting. Seems like the Imga as a species are seen in the same light as goblins and minotaurs sometimes, but it seems like they should also be listed with the more "civilized" 'races'.

Re: Planet of the Apes
I personally quite like the Imga Lore. They idolise the Altmer, some even shaving and powdering themselves, yet I doubt the Altmer really care for them, even though they encourage the practices of the Imga. The Imga also sort of struck me as swashbuckling, probably due to my imagination going a little further with their sword duelling, giving them an apparent love of rapiers
. All in all, I love the idea of a race even more snobbish than the Altmer, who'll do anything to try and please their 'betters', but will likely get nowhere. Reminds you a little of life in a way.

It does! Interesting lens to look through. Hopefully one day we'll glimpse one in an ES title.

There's a sketch of them in the first PGE. You can see it here.Grove-of-Hares wrote:It does! Interesting lens to look through. Hopefully one day we'll glimpse one in an ES title.

I've seen the sketch. I mean fleshed out; detailed within an actual game.

I think that they are the best candidate for a new playable race, they have an interestign culture, they are relatively human in form . . . and they have unique traits

I actually love that sketch, it really adds to my image of the Imga as snooty, rapier wielding Apes in capes. They're so ridiculous it's hilarious.

I'd at least like to see them, you know? But hey, I'll give Bethesda time.Ralok wrote:I think that they are the best candidate for a new playable race, they have an interestign culture, they are relatively human in form . . . and they have unique traits
I agree Duruza! I'd love to see them freaking out with their perfume-scented capes held up to their nose as the player, if he's human, walks by.

Ooh, I wonder what their reactions would be if the player was an Altmer...

Re: Planet of the Apes
MK mentioned them in one of his new stories, which is apparently an exerpt from the Valenwood section of the Second PGE that was never published.
It mentions their preferred form of ranged attack.

I bet the Imga loved it too
They probably didn't like the Government of Valenwood anyway, being the Empire backed and controlled organisation that it was, and seeing as the Empire equates to Men.
Now that has the potential to be an awesome TES moment, I can just picture a bunch of Imga trooping through a human city, capes held up covering their noses like those over the top vampires.

Something seems wrong with that passage...didn't King Borgas get killed by the Wild Hunt over a hundred years after Saint Alessia died?Pilaf The Defiler wrote:MK mentioned them in one of his new stories, which is apparently an exerpt from the Valenwood section of the Second PGE that was never published.

Wait, are the Imga still alive? Living on Tang Mo? Or are those just regualr monkeys?

It's Imperial Propaganda from a pamphlet never officially published. MK was drunk when he wrote it and admitted that some of it was just for fun. Also, the way I read it, Borgas was mentioned in a past tense. He doesn't appear in person does he? Only King-Dead-Wolf-Deer, an immortal were beast.
The Imga of Valenwood are a great ape people. The Tang Mo of Tang Mo are a monkey people. Both these races are still alive, but not apparently closely related.imperialkhajiit wrote:Wait, are the Imga still alive? Living on Tang Mo? Or are those just regualr monkeys?

That's what makes it weird, the text implies that King Borgas had been around before the fall of White-GoldPilaf The Defiler wrote: Also, the way I read it, Borgas was mentioned in a past tense. He doesn't appear in person does he?
This is beyond propaganda, but not above drunkenness.
Oh, maybe this was one of the Dragon Break screw ups! or just drunks

It does? In what way? This text takes place during the reign of Morihatha Septim, doesn't it? That's well into the Third Era. I must have overlooked any references to Borgas being around earlier in history than he should have been. Where are you getting this?
edit: Is it because of the "One True Empress" line? Remember this is from a document that was to be printed during Moriatha's reign. It's referring to Empress Septim, not Alessia. She's mentioned escaping via one of Kyne's wind tunnels at the end and cleaning herself at the bath houses at the Imperial City.

Re: Planet of the Apes
A misreading on my part, I had quickly read it and seeing the combination of her name and the "her brother galloping out from under her" line as an implication of Morihaus and Alessia. As well as the "True Empress" had my thoughts leaning towards someone more important

Yeah...well, I guess if it's your job to either kiss her ass or lose your head you'd call her that too.
