Well the only reason he is there is because he was in a different plane (apparently) when all the Dwemer disappeared that's why he did not vanish as well. This tweaked my interest a little, why would a Dwemer be in a plane of a Daedric Prince if the Dwemer prefer the laws of reason and logic, unless he was making a deal with one of them to keep himself alive, or trying to make a deal with the princes themselves to keep the Dwemer powerful something like that, it's open to interpretation.

You are thinking of Yagrum Bagarn, and there aren't many thoughts to say about him. He is what he is, poor man: the last living Dwemer, sick and fat and bloated by Corpus. The "spider legs" are an invention created to help him get about, but the Dwemer were quite crafty, so this is no surprise.
This thread also might be better in the Morrowind subforum; let me put it there for you.

That really fat Dwemer in Morrowind, with the spider legs?
Not to be obnoxious, but that was a really weird description of him. Yeah, he's the last living Dwemer, who was allegedly in another dimension when the Dwemer disappeared, so he's still here. He's really knowledgeable, and crafty. He's sick with Corprus, though, so he can't do much.

Interestingly, he's the only truly essential character in Morrowind.

Allow me to explain: The back path! It is impossible to finish Morrowind only if Yagrum Bagarn dies, because it is he who activates Wraithguard after Vivec bites the dust at your hands.

Ah, I just blindly ignored the fact that you can just go kill Dagoth Ur without having to do the quests before it. You're right.

I laughed so hard looking at him. He's quite odd.

Re: That really fat Dwemer in Morrowind, With the spider leg
In fact, the only way I've ever actually finished Morrowind was through the back path. Normally by the time I get to the Nevarine and Hortator bit I'm pretty much bored of it. Then there was the time when I was defending myself against a Dark Brotherhood assassin and accidentally struck Caius one too many times. As he falls limply to the ground I get the disturbing "Doomed World" message and I realize I don't have a recent save. So I get on the wiki and find out about the back path. Thanks to some sort of divine intervention I approached Vivec at level 40. We dueled, I won, and I collected Wraithguard and disposed of the immortal's corpse.
