So I think we've all pretty much accepted that Skyrim is a wash, mechanically speaking. It looks pretty, but it's far too simple and dumbed down for self-respecting PC Master Racers. Right? Of course right. So I was thinking... what if we took Skyrim, and grafted it onto a system that actually works? Behold: Mount and Skyrim!
There's two things I'm thinking here. One, is we give up on Skyrim completely and instead focus on an open-source, TES-themed full conversion mod for Mount and Blade. It'd be kinda tough, since we'd have to invent the details of Tamrielic horse combat from scratch, not to mention a whole host of new armor and weapon types to cover the vast array of crap Bethesda left out of Skyrim. But it could be done, in theory. The focus of the game would be on the Civil War, or, perhaps, a full pan-Tamrielic battle for supremacy, with the various provinces filling in for vanilla M&B's kingdoms.
The second is that we figure out a way to incorporate Mount and Blade style combat mechanics into Skyrim- such as directional strokes, directional blocking, formation movement, horse physics, full scale sieges etc. I dunno whether that's even feasible- Bethesda claims the CK will give us the power to meddle in tons of things, but then again, Bethesda has been known to claim a lot and deliver little.
Thoughts?

Mount and Skyrim

Re: Mount and Skyrim
I like the idea but it would be a pain trying to recreate the way the mounts moved in mount and blade because I think that work alot better then skyrim would for simulating mounted combat.
But if you wanted to ingnore that it could be a great addition to skyrim itself to be able to create your own faction and take over towns yourself as well as being able to set your followers up as yarl of each town and collect funds from them. Then you could wage war against the empire or the nords rebellion and throw in random pirate kingdoms for the hell of it.
I am not sure how you would do it without your toons just slaughtering the entire army you are going against and leaving your own army behind but could be doable still. Maybe create several small maps/zones that you get warped into when your troops encounter enemies and you fight in them.
