well if they do a tes in hammerfell, and i do mean the whole not just the illiac bay region that was in daggerfall they could bring back the Ansei powers. if they do one in elsweyr or argonia i dont know what new abilities thy could possibly pull out of the hat.

I guess an Alinor came could feature the Old Way as a power like the Thuum. An Elsweyr game could have something to do with Moon Sugar and the Lunar Lactice and Argonia powers could have something to do with the hist. What are the Ansei Powers??

Re: The Thu'um in Future Games
I don't like the concept of it. Thu'um is like a super special magic that you can breezily use because you were conveniently born as a demigod with the special gene for it. The idea of a powerful PC is good, but I prefer that the player become powerful through experience with and clever use of the same core abilities that other mortals have: combat, stealth, and magic. Not superpowers. I hope they move away from the Thu'um model in the future.

Re: The Thu'um in Future Games
I feel it could be improved but I like it. I agree though that it should take more experience to use it, starting out week but eventually becoming very powerful will be all the more satisfying. They made the Thu'um come to easily and quickly to the Dragonborn, even though thats suppost to be the howl point of being Dovakiin, it takes many many years for average people to learn the Thu'um. So in that sense even if you learned Dragon Shouts very slowly in the game you would still be considerd a fast learner compared to other Tongues.

Re: The Thu'um in Future Games
Isn't "the Old Way" simply a faithful Mysticism and Magic specific to the Psijic Order? The Elder Way is said to differ from the common magic in origin, but to have the same or similar effects.
As such, even if the game were not set on Alinor/Summerset, I'd like Mysticism back, but I wouldn't mind if Thu'um was removed. I mean, it's just another form of Magic, unqiue to Skyrim and while it works in the notion and theme of the Dovakiin, I think one game is enough and Bethesda should just go back to engaging and interesting Magic with the added layer of Powers both Lesser and Greater.
2920, The Last Year of the First Era wrote:"There are layers to understanding all things,' said Sotha Sil. 'The common man looks at an object and fits it into a place in his way of thinking. Those skilled in the Old Ways, in the way of the Psijic, in Mysticism, can see an object and identify it by its proper role. But one more layer is needed to be peeled back to achieve understanding. You must identify the object by its role and its truth and interpret that meaning"

Re: The Thu'um in Future Games
I may be alone here, but I never really liked the idea of adding dragon shouts to Skyrim. I barely use them, other than Aura Whisper, so it's not like they're adding amazing gameplay to my experience either. I understand the lore behind them and appreciate what they did, but in terms of moving forward, I think they've painted themselves into a corner. When TES6 comes around, everyone's gonna be complaining like Doros that "WTF, they removed all this stuff from the game, like boots, pickpocketing, bound weapons...and that would have even been ok if they had at least left dragon shouts at the game. This game would have been passable if I could at least FUS-RO-DAH my opponents off cliffs."
Their best bet is going to be to (obviously) remove Dragon Shouts and simply improve the overall gameplay in other ways. It is neat to have powers to activate that are "hands-free," but unless they greatly add to standard Powers, it isn't very tenable to make that a core mechanic. If they did find a lore excuse to do so, however, it would add an element to character development that's currently lacking.

Re: The Thu'um in Future Games
I would make shouts obtainable from the warrior guild kind of fraction from questing.
But.. because you are not the Dragonborn, the shouts are less powerful, never stealthy and make it harder to use spells in the same battle somehow because they exhaust you.
This way you can give the melee-only characters some cool toys without making things to overpowered.

Re: The Thu'um in Future Games
Replace? Why bother? They served their purpose in Skyrim; there isn't much of a need to bring them back, and I can only imagine that, though the Thu'um and Greybeards may go on, your next PC isn't going to have much to do with them. Your role is different in each game and rather independent of the last Hero, in a sense, and I like it that way.Anonymous98223 wrote:How do you think Beth. will replace the Dragon Shouts in future games??

Re: The Thu'um in Future Games
I had an idea for Thu'um replacements since it'd be weird to bring it outside of Skyrim.
One was Dawn Magic which is essentially Chaotic Magic from the beginning of Nirn or Akaviri Blood Magic as it's been hinted at previously, but never really fleshed out
What I'd truly prefer would be the return of magic while holding weapons like Oblivion, it made Classes like Paladin and Shaman so much easier to play since you didn't have to remove your weapons or shield to use magic. It would certainly make mages put out a lot of damage if they could dual cast and chant spells.

Re: The Thu'um in Future Games
I will miss shouts, but who knows what Beth will come up with? It is quite possible that Bethesda will give the player another type of ability, maybe have Daedra/Divine powers?

Yeah, I dont think they will just have nothing to replace it. There will have to be something.
