Can you name enchanted items? What is it, pressing Y or something?
Also, speaking of the words, what is the bottom setting in the Gameplay Settings? Slow or Scan something? The default is 15 miles, whatever that means.

Did I say the XBox market was ruining TES? No. Please read my post:FrostMage79x wrote:Can we please stop with the whole "Xbox Market is ruining TES" thing? It has nothing to do with things related to Skyrim, and has no place in this topic. It seems like every Skyrim topic you post in you end up slamming someone for what they do.DorostheConqueror wrote:Dragons were long gone, too, easy to fix that. The only things that are REALLY gone from TES are things like pants, flying, directional combat, and the PC market.FrostMage79x wrote:The ancient Dwemer are long gone
In a sense, that's part of it. But it's not just about making it "easier" for the "new players" (who's to say that new players wouldn't prefer the more substantial gaming experience found in previous Elder Scrolls games? Just because they're new doesn't mean they have a hard time picking up on things!) It's about making it easier for the vast, roiling, awash-with-disposable-income XBox market to get to the point of sales.FrostMage79x wrote:, and as far as the marketing, I think TES has just gotten more popular over the years, and thus they have to make a game that is easier to get into for newbies.
Yes, and that means...?Gallus wrote:It means that more people are capable of buying a $250 game-playing chunk of plastic, where the most technical knowledge you need to know to set it up is how to press an on button and insert a CD; as opposed to the amount of people who are smart enough to build their own great gaming PC at about $700-$800.
It means that XBox is the focus of Bethesda's attention. All of Skyrim's "design choices" were crafted with that simple fact in mind, and the results are what they are. That's all I'm saying here; you can feel free to add whatever inference-laden interpretation you'd like.
As always Jeff, you're right on the money. I honestly wouldn't be so grumbly at Skyrim if I had my paws on the CK. I spent hundreds of hours on Oblivion, yet I easily spent that much time and more poking around in the CS. My usual loadout was about twenty mods, of which at least ten were made by me, to tweak the game to my liking.Jeff wrote:Beth got away with it during Oblivion, since the CS was released on game release date. TES has a huge Modding, bug fixing, and help fandom. I am one of those. I did not enjoy playing Oblivion, as much as I enjoyed figuring out how it works, and how to give help via the Console commands, and Construction Set.
I'm just pointing out the facts, facts which I think we can all agree on. Skyrim has been very clearly designed for the XBox, and for very obvious reasons. Whether this is a sign of progress or the slow choking death of a once amazing series, I'll leave to you and your own better judgement. It means that XBox is the focus of Bethesda's attention. I think it's the menu save, with a 15min default... Not quite sure, I'd check myself but my Xbox just froze due to FPS bugs.Dunmer999 wrote:Can you name enchanted items? What is it, pressing Y or something?

Th opening cutscene is really long and unskipable, I thought it was awesome at first but I'm the kind of person that likes to make new characters and that's a pain with the long carriage ride in

Easy solution: Use the savegame that Skyrim automatically creates the second you get off the wagon.Samaelthedestroyer wrote:Th opening cutscene is really long and unskipable, I thought it was awesome at first but I'm the kind of person that likes to make new characters and that's a pain with the long carriage ride in

Hey there Brother Doros... this is the new UESP. You have to be nice, and agree with everyone... or the pitchfork, torch wielding mobs will run you out of town.
It is not like the old days, when it was acceptable to have an opinion, and others enjoyed hearing your humorus comments... and took them for what they are worth. Whether we agreed or not, nobody told you that you could not voice your opinion.

Re: Things you hate about skyrim
I'll just drop in real quick and say this (actually, as I began writing, it turns out I have a lot to say):
I AM STILL PLAYING MORROWIND. It's not that I don't like Skyrim (I'm now waiting for mods, but do eventually revisit my characters and do some random quest for the hack of it), and it's not that I didn't like Oblivion (I played on and off maybe 300-400 hours total in a long stretch of 4-5 years? So yeah, Oblivion is a suscessful game by all means).
MORROWIND is a hardcore RPG. It feels like a hardcore RPG. It feels like a whole new, alien world you want to explore and live in. MORROWIND has THE BEST story of all Elder Scrolls games (and I've played all of them, read pretty much all of the literature, so I feel qualified to be imperative about this: the fate (fall) of Nerevar and the rise of the Nerevarine, the Tribunal, the whole fu---ing island, are THE BEST SETTING for an RPG, and the best the series has/had to offer). I'm still waiting for Bethesda to tell us what happened to the Nerevarine, his ultimate fate and whether or not his journey to Akavir has something to do with recent events in Tamriel.
The whole backstory on Indoril Nerevar (love, betrayal, sacrifice) and the end of the Tribunal should have been made into a book. Can you honestly say there's been any other three characters as interesting and deep as Vivec, Almalexia and Sotha Sil ?? I despise that sh-t Greg Keyes wrote (what a dumb@z - he doesn't know jack sh-t about the series and his story has nothing to do with the general look and feel of an Elder Scrolls adventure - he wrote over a 100 pages about a KITCHEN, aargh, I can imagine his fat @z going thru a 'phase' and his cravings and desires drove him to this sh-ty book).
NEREVARINE > DRAGONBORN > CHAMPION OF CYRODIIL
The Nerevarine is Indoril Nerevar reincarnate. He kicks so much @z it brings tear to your eyes. He murdered a God. He united the Houses.
The Dragonborn is kinda lame, not so much story-wise, but because of poor implementation. Skyrim feels like an arcade hack-n-slash pretending to be an RPG. The whole perk system reminds me of the upgrade canisters in Deus Ex. It's very different in scope and size, sure, but as far as character customization goes, it's a dumbed down system for dumb console gamers who can't stand complex games. There, I said it.
Skyrim does a very sh-ty job at immersion. It's not that bad, but it's not all that good either and doesn't feel rewarding enough-- there's no mystery what the fate of the Dragonborn is. He's not that great of a hero anyway, most people don't give a f-ck about his presence even after the main quest(s) are finished, so it's safe to say he'll eventually retire, grow old and tell weird stories in a dark corner of the local inn. There have been plenty of Dragonborns before, lots of people can use the Voice and slay dragons. Dragonborn is not all that special.
I won't go into the whole Oblivion discussion as I feel it's the worst of the "three" (I say 3 because Arena and Daggerfall are usually left out anyway). Oblivion is a dumbed down RPG, and somehow still manages to be more of an RPG than Skyrim. Oblivion is a weak RPG. There's some immersion (mods), but it's lacking in so many areas.
Sigh.
STILL PLAYING MORROWIND.

Re: Things you hate about skyrim
The problem is that a Skyrim with the good feats of Morrowind would maybe please all the morrowind veterans to heaven, but it wouldn't be commercial as good as the skyrim we have now. It would be awesome to have all skills, the different weapon types, the around 100 different spell effects and so on to have again, but this would be a game for the more hardcore gamers , so they wouldn't sell as much copies as they do now.
Edit: I forgot the high immersion and the guilds that exclude each other^^.

I don't understand how more content could equal anything other than a better game for everyone. Taking features away is almost never the right thing to do. Now, in Skyrim's case, it made room for some wondrous stuff. Re: Things you hate about skyrim
Except that Skyrim pretty much feels like Morrowind (modded to death, anyone notice that the random quests are like LGNPC/MCA?
), even the main story, only they messed it up at the implementation part. BADLY. I feel that they DID try to appeal to the Morrowind fans though.
Diehard Morrowind fan here. And nothing can come close to Morrowind's story, except maybe LotR. We will have to deal with that, it was pure genius multiplied with blind luck, happens max once for any given artist.

*cough* Because saying that X feature would be nice, and actually implementing it, are two different things. Especially when so many of the reasonable regrets ( as opposed to the nutbars who basically wish the game were a roguelike ) boil down to "more content."
More content is great, but eventually you reach the point of diminishing returns, versus the amount of man-hours and dollars it would take to add. Especially since more content = more bugs to fix, always. Yes, it'd be nice if there were an extra hundred spell effects, a dozen more weapons and armor, and a bunch more skills. It wouldn't be nice enough to be worth delaying the game an extra six months.

Re: Things you hate about skyrim
I literally started this account so I could whine about skyrim in hopes that a list would be compiled and the developers could at least see it while making DLC, because I played (back to Morrowind) it primarily on Xbox.
So here is my list, some will be repeats, but that shows that is bothers multiple people. *Warning I am a diehard Morrowind Fan*
1. OMG combat is easy, when you can 2 or 3 shot a big TERRIBLE Dragon, the game is far to easy.
2. Combat is made so easy, because of the ridiculous crafting abilities, my Daedric armor blocks almost all spell damage and makes destruction and conjuration spells cast for free, Spamming Fireball takes down any horde in seconds.
3. Kill cams and most of the finishers in general, there is nothing I hate more than walking around with my battle axe and cracking every single draugr, in a boring ass dungeon full of them and nothing else, in the knees, one-shotting almost every one of them, but still watching the lame finisher.
4. The lack of skills? What happened to Morrowind skill sets? I loved having to pick, I loved Spears and Medium armor even though they were both mediocre skills! Athletics and Acrobatics would have been great in the new system, where you are able to sprint for a matter of milliseconds, maybe if they had athletics skill it wouldn't be such a problem running down the halls of an old nord crypt THING. Sure mix Mysticism in with other stuff, that is fine it was a lame skill anyways. And also the addition of Pickpocket, why? Of all things that could add Pickpocket is about the lamest idea I can think of.
5. Where are al the legendary weapons and armor, crafted armor should not be the best armor in the game. Furthermore, where are all the weapons and armor in general, does no one else miss being able to use so many varieties of weapons and armor that it was almost hard to choose. I was so pumped for when I saw the weapons skills were split into One-Handed, Two-Handed and Marksmen, because I was certain I would encounter some of the old Spears, Tantos, Dai Katanas, Crossbows and the laundry list of other fun weapons we haven't seen since Morrowind.
6. The environment is boring and so are the creatures that inhabit it. If I felt like fighting bears and large cats, I could drive no more than 3 hours from my house to do this in real life, and the combat would surely be harder. I want things unseen, they have reduced the variety of enemies to NOTHING. Bear, Cavebear, Icebear??? Troll, Frost Troll?? Sure they have added a few novel enemies, but by and large the variety is down.
7. COOL NEW CASTING SYSTEM!! Too bad there are so few varieties of spells to choose from, lets take out feather, unhinge, a ton of summons, divine intervention, and a million other viable spells options that kept Morrowind interesting and still at least sort of survived in Oblivion.
8. Why the limits on what you can enchant weapons and armor with? I have thought if I could find something that would do damage to myself and then I could run around with a lifestealing sword that the game actually has the potential to be difficult.
9. Everything levels so fast, except ALCHEMY, my lord that takes hours and hours and hours, and is a great skill, that levels way disproportionately to other skills
10. Dragonshouts, an awesome idea, poorly executed, these are very ineffective and I am far better off casting a spell than using pretty much any of them. The only 2 I found useful were Dragonrend and Whirlwind Sprint. The only other one I used was the sneak one that ineffectively throws your voice, but at least has some fun sayings.
11. The overall variety of people of Skyrim sucks, all the Humans with the exception of Redguards look almost identical now and elves are very few and far between.
12. This lack also makes marriage in Skyrim a lame system. My main guy is an Altmer, I have 1 option to marry and she is the most rude person in the game, Altmer are supposed to be a bit snobbish, but there are so few of them in the game and they are all completely hate-able. Furthermore, you get married and nothing comes of it, sure you make a little money on the side, but my wife loves to sleep in the servants quarters at the bottom of Proudspire Manor, so I cannot even get the bonus. I could move, but I don't can anyways. Also, why must you buy everything from your significant other and if I do spend 5k gold on Grand Soul gems from my wife, the lovely and strange Janessa, shouldn't the profits of the store at least fluctuate a little. Also with all these brat ball kids walking around, you'd think you'd be able to have kids of your own. I don't want to compare it to other games outside the series, but the Fable series just did this so much better, even in the original Fable.
13. When I walked into Blackreach, I was soooo excited and have found one little place like it since, but have cleared almost all the dungeons. It is the one fragment of fantasy world left in Skyrim (aka TES V: Norway Simulator).
14. I enjoy the NPC dialogue, but some of them are berserk. Brynjoff(however his crazy made up Scandinavian name is spelled) constantly is like "CAN'T TALK NOW LAD", I could be like 10 feet away from him, learning a thing a thing or two from Vipir, because I don't want to level Pickpocketing and good old B is like, "HEY MAN, I SEE YOU OVER THERE, BUT I AM A LITTLE BUSY ATM".
15. Factions! They play a much bigger role in the gameplay, but inversely that are incredibly easy to finish and there are still few of them. The Bards College was a great idea, but I already had the book to join in my inventory and that is the whole bards college. There are so many factions around Skyrim: Silver-Bloods, Foresworn, Thalmor, the Temples and another I thought of, but lost it in this rant.
16. The temple quests! This was such an awesome idea! Why only two of them? I don't care if I get a crazy buff like I do from Mara, but at least give me a weapon or something! The lack of legendary weapons mentioned above could be at least fixed some by getting the sword of Tiber Septim he is always leaning on or some sort of other neat Aedra weapon to counterbalance getting the Daedrics.
17. *this is a suggestion more than a complaint* Why no introduce one of the other races from the lore? I know the lore says many of them are extinct or the current races are like a product of their evolution, but I think it would be mad fun to find a hiding tribe of Lilmothiit and be able to play something new, since I mean they did take so much meat out of the series, they might as well add some.
Well, that is about all the complaints I have for now. I hope that somehow this info and the info of others can be compiled into something so that the developers can see what people want and at least add it in the DLC, like more weapon styles that still fit into the 3 categories would be a simple fix.
I await your responces
So here is my list, some will be repeats, but that shows that is bothers multiple people. *Warning I am a diehard Morrowind Fan*

Re: Things you hate about skyrim
Guilds. They're just not handled that well, and they're worst then they were in Oblivion. I wasn't a huge fan of Morrowind gameplay wise, but they did guilds right in that game. I feel in Skyrim the guild plots advance far too quickly, and the stories there are just too short. In Morrowind I'd get small quests that started me off, and there wasn't some big dark plot behind the scenes that I'd get tossed into right off the bat.
If I could change anything there, I'd bring back ranks and promotions, and I'd pretty much want it the same way Morrowind had it. Especially making it so you have to be good at the skills the guild is focused on in order to advance, e.g. you need to be good at magic skills to earn a promotion and advance in the Mages Guild. Then, go ahead and toss in a few pointless quests for good measure.
And... well... personally I don't like doing the MQ in Elder Scrolls games much on second playthroughs, mostly because like in Oblivion, everyone knew who I was and I was constantly greeted with "Oi! You're the hero of Kvatch/Bruma/Cyrodiil". And that annoyed me. :\
So if they made a way to better avoid the MQ and make it feel more natural, and then not be reminded of it every second, that might be nice. But hey, that's just me.
Otherwise I'm quite happy with Skyrim. Granted, there are a few things there I miss, but nothing to dislike the game over. I'm still standing where I won't judge Skyrim until all DLCs have been released and Bethesda officially stops supporting it. After that (and a year later) I think I'll have a better idea on where I stand. I might also need to replay Morrowind and Oblivion.

Disagree with this one. I use the unrelenting force shout ALOT. It's great for staggering an enemy (or more than one if they are in its radius), especially when said enemy is going for that huge power swing that can take you out in one swipe. (Plus, I play on Master difficulty so the one hit kills happen quite often). My character specializes in dual wielding one-handed weapons so while some players could take use of a shield and block said attacks, I dont have that luxury.chaddle wrote:10.
Also, its good for that pesky dragon that doesn't want to give you any attention.

I dont like how the UI is set up for consoles. I had to buy an xbox controller specifically for this game on pc because of how bad the keyboard/mouse controls are.
Another thing I dont like (just off the top of my head) is that alot of the cities seem to look alike. I dont feel like each one has their own look and personality as compared to previous Elder Scrolls games.
I wish there was more spells and that enchanting was expanded. I'm hoping somehow future mods will fix most of my gripes.

People are far to critical. I understand the topic is 'things you hate about Skyrim' and everyones opinion matters and we all have the right to be heard. But seriously... Get off your high horses. I can honestly say there is nothing I hate about Skyrim, there are some things that I can question, but all in all it's just a video game. It is what it is, and Beth (I think) has done a fantastic job. Any game that you can spend hundreds of hours playing..... is a great game to me. No game/product/opinion will ever make 100% of people happy. Beth has been bagged about making it a game for a broader range of gamers. Good on them! They are like any other business... trying to make a profit. If upsetting a bunch of die hard fans is what happens in the process of doing that, I can guarantee they done give a flying F.

High horses? I feel like almost everyone had a legitimate reason for being disappointed? None of them would make the game less accessible for no players except adding more spells and skills, god forbid people learn about a game. The hype on this game was so high people would have learned the old skills.lostlast wrote:People are far to critical. Maybe if you have played games for more than the last 10 years you remember when games were actually difficult. I don't think anyone is asking a lot of a company, when they are simply asking leave some of what you used to have in the game in. There are so few complaints about what they should take out, just what they should have kept. Everyone is reveling in past success and bummed that this game wasn't quite the game they thought it would be.

Complain and behave like old women as long as you want. I'm gonna put on my troll mask and wizard hat and play Skyrim with a smile on my face like thousands of other people.

Re: Things you hate about skyrim
And yet, somehow, they managed to get all that content in game after game already. Bethesda's got the biggest budget, the largest staff, and the most sophisticated distribution network it's ever had, and with all that, apparently they can only implement about half of what they've done before. Curse massive resources and their diminishing returns!metaphysician wrote:*cough* Because saying that X feature would be nice, and actually implementing it, are two different things.
Look, all witty and incisive commentary aside, we're not asking for much here. We're not asking Bethseda to make Project Ego, or a Spore that doesn't suck. We're just asking for Bethesda to take the stuff we all know they can do, and build on that- not make each successive iteration of the franchise smaller and flabbier than the last.

EVERYONE, refering to the people in this thread, this thread in which EVERYONE who is complaining is complaining about what I said. So... what would you rather we complain about? Complain about the game being exactly what we thought it would be?chaddle wrote:EVERYONE, refering to the people in this thread, this thread in which EVERYONE who is complaining is complaining about what I said. Well, actually, chalk me up for that: I knew this was gonna happen, because frankly, I'm a clever git. It makes sense. Who nets them the most sales? The Xbox market. So who do you focus on? The XBox market. How do you do that? Well, you look at all the gameplay data you've mined from Oblivion; stuff that the majority of XBox users don't adopt, you drop. Then you add slicker graphics and features your focus groups indicate will be "hot" with your core audience, things like Call of Duty health systems and simplified stats so your average kid with access to a source of disposable income doesn't get bored or scared by lots n' lots of numbers. Basically, you take Oblivion, and you do to Oblivion what Oblivion did to Morrowind. Hey, presto, Houston, we have Skyrim!
And oh, sweet Talos, has Doros done it again! The truth shall set us free!

Just because the game works fine for you, does not mean that it works fine for the THOUSANS of other people who are experiencing problems.
One of the key reasons this Forum (and the Wiki) are here, is to help people understand the game, and to help others fix problems that they may have.
Sort of defeats the purpose of this place, if people can not discuss the problems they may have encountered. In discussing these problems, it can help others to fix those problems. Even if those probems are things that they do not like about the game, or the series, or Bethesda... or the direction of the gaming industry.
