Re: Who are the thalmore?
The Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion are about as chummy as two separate gangs of robbers who've just realized they're hitting the same bank at the same time.StinkyJozef wrote:Are they a part of the empire or a seperate power of elves on the rise? ...
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

A bunch of [&@%!] up [&@%!] whom you need to kill, butcher, massacre, slay whenever you come across them.

I hate them too after what happened at the High Hrothgar Council. I never trusted that Elven [&@%!] that temporarily took charge of the Empire after the Oblivion Crisis...always suspected he had something to do with it.

Ocato was killed before the Thalmor took power so what you just said was stupid

Re: Who are the thalmore?
Cause and effect..influence are not always linear. No idea re ocato influence re Thalmor but I would not rule it out and certainly would not characterize the suggestion as "stupid".
It is funny really how you can develop bias's and antipathy toward's groups such as the forsworn and thalmor's. Thalmor put out an execution order on me.sent some thugs to carry it out. I retaliated with an attack on their embassy. I'll get back to the forsworn soon but for now...thalmor's had best have eye's in the back of their head's.....because I'm going to be after them.

Re: Who are the Thalmor?
The Thalmor only put a bounty on your head after you break into the embassy and steal their dossiers don't they?
Anyhow, I personally think it's foolish to categorise the Empire and the Thalmor together, they hate each other's guts and the peace between them is tense at best. I also think it's foolish to categorise all Mer or all Altmer alongside the Thalmor, but that's a whole 'nother issue.
All I'll say is that the original Thalmor were a good organisation, and I'm not so sure the current Thalmor are as 'evil' as some people make out.
Also, the detractors of the Thalmor claim that the Thalmor had Ocato assassinated, so I doubt Ocato was at all involved, particularly as, as ArgonianDunmer rightly points out, he was assassinated by somebody (just as likely a Nibenese Lord or Baron as the Thalmor) before they got involved in the matter. So on the balance of probabilities it's most logical that Ocato had absolutely nothing to do with the fall of the Empire. I would say accusing him of being a Thalmor [&@%!], or an Elven [&@%!] for that matter, is treading down the line of putting all Altmer in the Thalmor basket, which I for one do not agree with.
Enough with the hating on Mer if you please.

Nope. I hadn't yet rented the attic room when the Thalmor started flinging their flunkies my way.OblivionDuruza wrote:The Thalmor only put a bounty on your head after you break into the embassy and steal their dossiers don't they?
How did I earn my first Thalmor death warrant? Went little something like this on the open road between Ivarstead and Riverwood.
Cassie: Hi there. I was just noticing how out-of-place your tacky armor looks around these parts. Moonstone isn't well-known for its insulative properties.
Thalmor Agent: We are the Thalmor. We are too haughty to show our displeasure to the likes of you. We are here to hunt down and kill Talos worshippers. Men, women, children, dogs, and chickens alike.
Cassie: Killing chickens because of whom they worship? That seems a bit harsh.
Thalmor: Why?
Cassie: Wha— well. Ewwww.
Thalmor: You are! Stand still while I kill you!
*snicker-snack*
Cassie: Sugar, you picked a bad day to honk off an axe-murderer...

Re: Who are the Thalmor?
Well I guess I've just been lucky then, because I've only ever been attacked by beasts and bandits who scream, Skyrim belongs to the Nords! and You'll make a nice rug! as their dead bodies fall to the ice (Bethesda really needs to consider the fact that even though a killshot has not finished, the NPC is dead as soon as the head comes off).
In fact, in all my time with Skyrim, I've only witnessed one Thalmor attack, which was shortly after a Redguard Stormlcoak stormed the embassy and killed every single Thalmor in reach. Reason enough for a death warrant I'll wager.
I guess I need to endeavour to make myself more of a target for them

I'll even give all of you blind Thalmor bashers a good historical example:
Defeated Germany post WW1 and the occupation of the Rhineland by French forces.
Defeated Empire post Great War and the occupation/infiltration of the Empire by Thalmor forces.
Now, if you're a French-hating German for ruining your country, would you go and fight the German government about it or improve Germany to fight the French again? If you rise up and fight the Germans, you're going to loose. You should in fact, try to improve the situation within your country and build up military armaments.
Post-war Cyrodillic Empire is so post-WW1 Germany. Only a fool would view the Wiemar Republic as France.

Do what I did: simply talk to one of them. Sooner or later they'll contrive some reason to try and kill you.OblivionDuruza wrote:Well I guess I've just been lucky then, because I've only ever been attacked by beasts and bandits who scream, Skyrim belongs to the Nords! and You'll make a nice rug! as their dead bodies fall to the ice (Bethesda really needs to consider the fact that even though a killshot has not finished, the NPC is dead as soon as the head comes off).

I mean, even the Gestapo had their 'off' days for drinking or somesuch. The Thalmor are like the Terminator— without the super-fast processor speeds.

Re: Who are the thalmore?
Giordano, the difference here is that fighting the Empire does not weaken the Thalmor and only spends the blood of troops that could be spent spilling the blood of the Thalmor. The Thalmor has a token presence in Skyrim at best, they don't exactly care for the place other than to cause conflict between the Legion and Stormcloaks, probably serving as a distraction in some greater Thalmor plan they've got cooking. If fighting the Empire actualy weakened the Thalmor it'd be a different matter, but the Thalmor want the Stormcloaks to fight the Empire, it weakens both potential foes of the Thalmor at no cost to themselves.
Fighting the Empire is much the same as allying with the Thalmor and helping the Altmer storm the Imperial City all over again.
StinkyJozef, who is the sympathizer exactly? The people claiming that Ocato was killed by the Thalmor were the few detractors of the Dominion.

Yes, that's my point entirely. If you're trying to fight France as a German, why would you weaken Germany?OblivionDuruza wrote:Giordano, the difference here is that fighting the Empire does not weaken the Thalmor and only spends the blood of troops that could be spent spilling the blood of the Thalmor. Re: Who are the thalmore?
Well then the Stormcloaks are the aggressors in the matter, not the Empire. The Legion is simply defending itself, if anything, the Stormcloaks should not be attacking the Empire, they should be focusing on the Thalmor. So we're in agreement on that matter? The Thalmor are the real enemy of Man?

Ah, I see where I confused you. Yes, Germany/Wiemar Republic is the Empire, but you as the nationalist German who wants to remove the French out of your lands, you are the Stormcloak. So instead of creating civil war, you should work with the Empire to fix it's weaknesses and bring the fight back to the Thalmor themselves.OblivionDuruza wrote:Well then the Stormcloaks are the aggressors in the matter, not the Empire. Re: Who are the thalmore?
Any pain the Stormcloaks inflict is the price to be paid when you send Nord warriors to bleed and die in defense of your precious Empire, then turn around and rob their families of the very freedom their sons and daughters died to uphold.
All in the name of some treaty that the enemy has no intention to hold in good faith.

Re: Who are the thalmore?
Typical Thalmor encounter has my character seething over their arrogant attitude. Then, out of the blue I have 3 of them attacking me simply because I lit one of them up with a fiery arrow.
I did steal the dossiers from their embassy but the execution order may be at least partially about the chance roadside encounters.
