Re: How many skills do you use?
I use about half of the skills in the game, maybe a little over. But I'll only majorly spend in Archery, Alchemy, Lockpicking, Illusion, and Sneak, while I half spend in Pickpocket, Restoration, Alteration, Smithing (For the dragon scale), Speech, and eventually a little into Enchanting.
Every character must use some other skill that doesn't fit it's class name, I swear by it.

Re: How many skills do you use?
Yes, it is not focused, but as all those little skill increases are counted to your leveling, you get levels just about in normal speed. of course, as my character is ATM at level 60, leveling is quite slow anyways. The only solution for that would be leaving easy-increasing skills to higher levels, but that's not what I think is fun playing. I have wrote down the skill values and chosen perks for (almost) all levels, and I have planned to publish them when my character retires.Jaime Gemstone wrote: That's the thing - you are "using more skills" really? You can't use destruction, two handed, one handed, sneal and archery all at the same time. You can use them all in the same dungeon, but not really in the same fight, so to say. So in the end, you're only charging each skill up a very little bit per dungeon. It's not focused. But I'd like to hear what people who do it say.,

Re: How many skills do you use?
Well my 2 skills character ended up being a bit dull, anyway, even if quite effective. Got boring to play...
I think it's best to balance, now. Not too many, not too few. Right now I'm playing a girl who's using One Handed (dual weild swords), Light Armor, Sneak, Archery, Smithing and Enchant. Not too many. I get all the perks I want when I need them and can destroy just about anything.

I suggest relaxing a bit. Instead of sitting and calculating your perks just play the game, only this way you will know what you exactly want to master.

Re: How many skills do you use?
I tend to focus on a few skills, with a couple others being tagged along. I never have a full Perk tree filled up. For instance, despite my Spellblade using Destruction Magic frequently, there's 6 perks I don't have in it, Dual Casting, Impact, The 3 Elemental "finishers" and Master -50% cost. And as they rarely use Alteration, I only have enough perks in there to max out my Magic Resistance from that tree. I'm very methodical. The only trees I tend to fill out are the Armor trees, depending on what I'm using, and Illusion if I want it in that character. The latter kinda needs it if you intend to make frequent and constant use of Illusion.
That's not to say I don't use EVERY skill in the game. I sneak if I feel it's worth it, but I won't put in any perks. Same goes for Lockpicking, or heck, Speech. There may be times I use a bow, but no points will go in there. Not worth it.

This pretty much sums up how I play the game too. I hate helmets therefore in light armor I only specialized in 5 perks of Agile Defender and leave the rest untouched. I think some skills increase involuntarily (or not, depend on how one define involuntarily) like Speech and Lockpick, and there are always skillbooks that force us to read them upon picking them up.noobishlord wrote:I tend to focus on a few skills, with a couple others being tagged along. Re: How many skills do you use?
Right now I use archery and sneak predominantly with occasional magic and shouts. I use a sword and/or dagger when a bow does not make sense. My current skill uses are based on a foundation of smithing, enchantment and light armor skills which give me good weapons and armor.
I got to this point by trial and error. Sneak and archery skills have complementary perks and it just kind of happened that I went in this direction. Invested in smithing and light armor to avoid getting easily killed every time I went out on an adventure. I used all the smith skill perks but for the rest I've just leveled up naturally and use perks in different skills where they make the most sense. For example, I used only 4 perks in enchanting but went straight up the middle and got the dual effect perk which has obvious creative uses....
Will use my next perks on alteration to get the resist magic ones since mages still create difficulties for me. My fur armor has decent protection vs swords and arrows but I think I read somewhere in the forums that your armor does not protect vs magic. Getting a bit off topic here--sorry.

Re: How many skills do you use?
All of them. Though my main skills (where I invested perks) are Light Armour, One-handed, Destruction, Restoration, Smithing, Enchanting, Sneak. They're not maxed out, I just took the perks I was interested in. I'm currently level 72 and going for 81. I only have one perk left I'm interested in, the Expert level in Destruction, but until I get it, I'm using the extra perks I'm earning in other skills, like Pickpocket and Alchemy.
Here's my plan, just six more levels and I've done. I might put the last three perks in Archery.

Re: How many skills do you use?
Depends on the character, usually only 4-5 skills.
