Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
Most of the containers in the game (barrels, chests, etc.) will reset every so often, which means if you try and store things there long term you will lose them. The idea is that if you dont own a container, other people will have access to it and take your stuff.mjordan wrote:I happen to be one of these players who does not know the difference. However, the containers in a home that you own are safe, which means you can leave things in there for as long as you want, and assuming this Burglary stuff is BS, the stuff will always be there when you come back

They might. I'm not sure whether all the containers there are safe; the bedroom chest seems alright, but until the CK comes out you can never be too careful with "side" houses.deadknight wrote:Well lie or truth i have moved all my stuff in the..See if they can go and steal from thereSpoiler:

Ypu might want to check on the wiki and see if anyone's made a list of confirmed safe containers. There's probably at least a couple in Dawnstar, though it might be hard to organize your stuff.

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
HE STOLE WHAT!?
*Whispers* Sweet mother, sweet mother...
Maybe some of the chests are respawning, because I put my armour in a chest, and next time I used it, it dissapeared! I blamed lydia of course, so you can guess that whatever followed next, it was acompanyied by blood and screaming.
EDIT: I have some evidence to back up this claim; I was in Riften when I noticed a dead body simply labeled theif. I threw his body into the river a while back, because it made the place look ugly. On his body, he had, to my best recollection, some form of light armour, probably leather, and a dagger, probably steel or some low level weapon. I simply shrugged the finding off as a random theives guild related event, with the theives guild in Riften and whatnot. It is possible that this NPC was busy robbing houses of the rich! Now, if this theif can rob other houses, why can' he rob yours? I've done some research and found out that people have reported characters named theif lurking around their homes and night.
I must say, this seems like a good idea for bethesda to do this, but if you return back after hours of gameplay only to find your chillrend missing, then that just takes the p***. Bethesda should, providing they already haven't, include a cap on how many items and what items this theif can steal.
Also, wouldn't it be awesome if bandits raided a city?

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
I'm fairly certain that it is a nasty rumor. We would be hearing a lot more about home burglaries on the forum if they did occur. I know I would jump on the forum and complain if all my stuff got jacked. Taking all the lockpicks is a good idea though...Red Guardian wrote:So, did anyone actually confirmed this thing or it's only a nasty rumor?

Doubt it's a rumor. It is probably a rare occurance, because, well your house wouldn't get robbed endlessly, so perhaps that is why only a few people have reported it. However, most reports are similar, and aren't vague like the dwenmer still alive in ruins fad.

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
I don't buy it. The fact that thieves are roaming around doesn't prove that your house can be robbed. Thinking about this logically, it seems that if there were the potential for you to be the victim of a burglary, there would also be measures you could take to prevent the burglary (a container that can only be opened with a key). You're telling me that all my Daedric Artifacts could be stolen? Is there also a chance that you could be enjoying some mead at the Winking Skeever and have your pocket picked? The Silent Striker wrote:Doubt it's a rumor. From what I've heard, the player returns home to find a guard in his house telling him that he had been robbed. Show me a screen shot of that, and I'll consider this more than just a nasty rumor.
Until I see proof, I consider any report of missing items to be the result of an unfortunate glitch or bug and any report of a thief in the player's house to be old fashioned trolling.

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
I really don't believe the OP.
For starters, he heard it from reddit. He and no one else on these forums has experienced it, and there is no mention of it on the wiki.
Throughout all my characters, most of them having houses through most of their time in the game, i've never experienced it.

Or that just could be a part of the thieves guild questline...

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
AFAIK, thieves are random events to amuse players that you may see at least in Riften. At market place, someone cries "Thief!", you see a thief running and guards starting to fire arrows in it. I have also encountered a thief inside the inn, but s/he didn't make anything else than sneaked around the place. I may think that they could occur in other cities, too, if you have restored Thieves Guild in its former glory.Vendetta wrote:Or that just could be a part of the thieves guild questline...
I have only get robbed by high level trainers, which gladly write a bill of 20,000 gold to you.

I doubt it, because the thieves guild characters have names, and I saw a dead thief body in riften even before I started the thieves guild. Half of me hopes this is true, because it sounds like a really immersive idea, and the other half doesn't because I don't want my blade of woe going missing.Vendetta wrote:I really don't believe the OP.

EDIT: I think I have made a breakthrough. This thread in yahoo questions may provide the answer: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 650AAWb7se
Answer 2 states that the loading screen will sometimes display a message about people stealing from your house. If someone could get a screenshot of this, then this theroy will be concrete and absolute.

Re: Warning: Npc's can rob your house
Dunno if this discussion is still going... been 3 days but whatever...
Anyway, random 'Thief' encounters happen ALL THE TIME to me! REALLY!
Every time I go to Riften, the guards are going mental and shooting arrows at thieves called 'Thief' and I have about 15+ bodies of them in Riften alone. Theyu usually carry candlesticks, bowls and other pottery. They also carry some arrows I think... I dunno if it's 'cause I've completed the Thieves Guild or whatever, but it doesn't seem to happen anywhere else apart from Riften so yeah... I dunno if they are supposed to be part of the guild or freelancers (although they wear TG armour) but whatever... they never appeared before I completed the TG questline so AFAIK they ARE infact triggered by the TG quests
back to the main topic... This 'Theevz robb meh hoouse' crap is BS I'm afraid. Yeah, it would be cool, but guys, IT DOESN'T EXIST IN THE GAME! It's either a mix-up or is just plain [&@%!] made to stir up rumours
Whatever, just don't worry about the Thieves in Riften LOL

Just to make it clear, no one should be blaming the OP I think. I also read it on reddit and the TC there was warning people and making a big deal about it. Unless the OP here and on reddit are the same, then it's not his fault. But yeah, this is pretty much just one of those "cow level" kinda things.
