Poll of your way of Fighting
I have been wondering which are more preferred then the others, so here it is
Choose the one that you enjoy and prefer the most, so don't state your current role-playing favorite.
Stealth: You use archery and daggers, you use alchemy to make poisons, you use stealth as your way of attacking the foe.
Illusionist: You use archery, daggers, and illusion, you use your mind-bending abilities to unfairly make your foe run, not attack, hurt his own mates, and see nothing.
Combat: You use swords, axes, or blunt force, you use smithing to upgrade your equipement, and you attack your foe head on in a suit of armor.
Spellsword: You use one handed weapons and destruction, you continuously batter your foe with pure damage.
Ranger: You use archery, you attack the enemy from afar in light armor.
Magic: You use magic to harm your foe, heal yourself, and make your skin like armor, you use enchanting to increase your arcane prowess, and you attack your foe with strategy.
Conjurer: You use conjured weapons and allies, you use your weightless swords and bows to take down the distracted enemy.
Wizard: You use destruction, restoration, and alteration, you use the elements as you heal yourself in invisible armor.
Other: Your own blend of skills, but please, explain this character.
If there is a combination between two choices, then please choose both.

Re: Poll of your way of Fighting
Normally, a Spellsword for me. Nothing beats the thrill of pure offense, burning through armor with magic and beating foes to a pulp with a weapon. Though of late, I've been tinkering with a Shieldmage (armor & shield with magic,) and that is working out quite nicely, adding in a few extra layers of defense.
All around, I just like magic.

I am a true ranger. I attack from range with my bow, hunting game etc. If I condescend to melee, I use a dagger, Blade of woe or Mehrunes Razor.

Hmm, well stealth is one of my characters.
But my other is a necromancer character, illusion, reanimation and a little destruction. Perhaps an other category would be fitting? It is easy to blend skill to make more hazy, less categorized builds.

Stealth, but it's an even split between bows and swords, with daggers as a backup. Also, no poisons, at least not in Skyrim, since they're far too weak and completely unnecessary given the damage output from backstabbing.
Shouldn't you be dual wielding a pair of scimitars?Drizzt Do'Urden wrote:I am a true ranger. I attack from range with my bow, hunting game etc. If I condescend to melee, I use a dagger, Blade of woe or Mehrunes Razor.

Re: Poll of your way of Fighting
None. All of those options draw a false equivalency between using one skill and using various other skills, thereby excluding all of my characters because they use skill combinations not provided. Edit: Given the inclusion of an other option, I've used multiple characters but favour a combination of archery, sneak and restoration. No melee, no armour, and I've been known to drop the sneak and supplement with powers and shouts.

Fixed, there is an Other option now.Geonis wrote:But my other is a necromancer character, illusion, reanimation and a little destruction. Perhaps an other category would be fitting? It is easy to blend skill to make more hazy, less categorized builds.
•Edit• Ugh, you got to be kidding, I added the option, so it destroyed the record of people's choices.

I like to make a Khajiit, raise nothing but heavy armor and smithing. Disenchant gloves of the puglist. Use heavy armor unarmed perk + smith-enhanced heavy armor gauntlets + khajiit claws. Set difficulty to master, Strip down naked wearing nothing but gauntlets, and punch dragons to death.
Winning. Khajiit's Blood.

Re: Poll of your way of Fighting
I'll need to vote "Other" on this one.
Swords, stealth, conjuration, restoration, alteration and no armor.
I'll always use stealth no matter what, I don't like rushing in without knowing what's up ahead. This way I can get a good view of the situation and make a plan for attack. Swords are always my weapon of choice, nothing over the top though - something sleek and simple is enough, cause I'm bound to get into close quarter combat. Conjuration when I need the help or if I'm "testing" the waters before diving in. Restoration for dealing with undead and healing myself, I never leave home without it. Alteration for defense and other useful skills, I used no armor cause I prefer robe type clothing, so certain alteration skills help in that regard.
Other then that, I don't really have a name for it. It is what it is.

Re: Poll of your way of Fighting
I adapt to whatever I'm doing. In the College I tried pure mage, but failed terribly, so reverted to my main spellsword style (light armour, sword + spell). During the DB quests I wore the Shrouded armour and used bow, dagger and Illusion (Detect life). Same thing now with the Thieves Guild. With the Companions I'll use heavy armour and a two handed sword, the bow for distance attacks. During the MQ and the Legion quests (which I still have not started) I'll be using my main style: enchanted legendary dragon scale armour, enchanted legendary Daedric sword and spell. I always start with a sneak bow attack (enchanted legendary Daedric) when possible. I'm currently level 54, in about ten levels I will have unlocked all the perks I really want.
I chose spellsword and stealth as my answers.

I'd go with other.I use destruction to kill, restoration to heal, conjuration to summon creatures and wear enchanted light armor for protection.
At the entrance a Fish Speaker stooped and whispered to another: <<God is upset?>>
Her companion replied: <<The sins of the world is likely to disturb even a god.>>
Leto listened them and wept silently.

Re: Poll of your way of Fighting
I prefer to have my first character be a Spellsword, with robes, a longsword, and Destruction spells. I usually don't RP that character so that whenever I come back to it after playing my RP'd characters, I feel like a god. After my first character I usually go into a stealth character.
This varies depending on how I feel like playing. Either an archer that uses dual-blades, or more of an Illusion magic and bow or dual-blades DB assassin that is usually more rogue, rather than falling into a certain playstyle dependent on faction. Such as in Oblivion I would almost always use Illusion magic (or a combination of Illusion and Alteration, for when I am forced into battle) o my stealth build, as I found it increasingly hard to not use Detect Life or Night Eye when sneaking into an are that I knew was vastly inhabited by intelligent NPCs.
After my stealth character gets to a reasonably high level, I will usually make a character that doesn't really fit into any actual "class". This could be an archer that uses robes and Destruction magic, or any other custom made playstyle.
It all comes down to how I want to play, and also how efficient I can imagine (and until Skyrim, how confirmed that it would be powerful) it would be powerful and efficient.

Filing that away for a future Dunmer build. Needs a cloaks&capes mod and a levelled sabre cat follower.DorostheConqueror wrote:Shouldn't you be dual wielding a pair of scimitars?
Anyway, my typical fighting style is melee beatdown, plus a little Restoration on the harder difficulties.

Spellsword + Conjuration. Basically a heavily armored warrior with a Bound sword in one hand and fire in the other, with various Atronachs, Daedra or reanimated corpses to back him up.

I fight with a sword and shield, light armor, and no smithing. That doesn't really meet any of the descriptions up there, oddly enough. That's when I'm not sneaking and using archery. So Ranger for that component and...Other for the other.

My character is more than likely a heavy Battle Mage.
I use all kinds of melee weapons and all known spells that I can find. The only stealth skills that I use are sneak and lockpicking...

It depends on what type of character I play as. My favourites are ranger, combat and stealth. Or a mix of them all.

I will typically sneak through dungeons/caves/ruins, snipe the bad guys from far away with the trusty bow, then wade in with axe and shield(bandits and Draugr) or dual axes(spell casters) while wearing heavy armor. I guess that makes me kind of a heavy ranger?

Re: Poll of your way of Fighting
I would say a mixture of spellsword and magic. Its actually been dictated by my leveling. When the game started, I concentrated on getting Destruction, Alteration, and Conjuration to 100, now I am finally using one handed weapons about 100 hours in
