Discussion for players who have defeated the main quest
If it wasn't clear enough in the title, there will be spoilers. You have been warned.
So, just beat the main quest a few days ago. Got some questions and things to discuss.
1. Was that Alduin in the beginning that interrupted the execution of Ulfric? Or just a random dragon. Anybody know if you can see Ulfric actually escaping through the console?
2. What crazy magic is Alduin using to REVIVE dragons. All these named dragons and even unnamed are still flying around. Great, but while the game explained how ALDUIN is still alive (almost unkillable, so they sent him forward in time), it doesn't exactly explain how the other dragons are still about. They DIED before, and even necromancy only KIND of brings back the dead. Usually they don't talk and disintegrate when their "master" dies. And did previous dragonborns kill these dragons? If so, shouldn't their soul already be gone or at the very least their bones decayed or something? I don't really understand how all these dragons are flying around as if it's perfectly normal to be revived from the dead. Surely they weren't all sleeping 5 inches below the ground at all those "burial grounds" or something silly like that.
3. On the topic of #1, do you think that dragon or Alduin was "saving" ulfric on purpose? Or by accident. One could argue he was doing it to prolong the civil war, to either give the dragons a direct advantage since their enemies are fighting amongst themselves, or an indirect advantage by allowing more bloodshed = more souls for Alduin to eat outside shor's halls.
4. You know, at least in Oblivion, there were some BIG HUGE INDICATORS that the main quest was done. Some unique dialogue here and there, some unique gear given to you, some explanation of what is going to happen. Skyrim I suppose you get a dragon call which is pretty decent, but I haven't heard ONE person in skyrim comment on it! I want my parade!
5. For those who killed ulfric in the side quest, or even other important members, did you notice he showed up after you kill alduin? That was some nice attention to detail. Although, he sure doesn't seem bitter about it. Treats me like a hero!
Any comments/questions about main quest?

Re: Discussion for players who have defeated the main quest
1. yes, that is Alduin crashing the necktie party at the beginning..
2. not sure if you can see Ulfric or not. I always follow the legion guy..
3. Not magic.. Alduin uis the firstborn of Akatosh.. He's a god.. I personally do not know if it was Dragonborn, or blades or both that killed the dragons the first time.
4. I think the ambiguity in this game is caused by the fact that there are more than just the one main quest lines to follow.. So whereas with Oblivion which left you empty ( your friends are dead, everything youve come to love in the game is gone and the big moment where you can defeat the bad guy, your forced to just watch ), in Skyrim there is no earth shattering "its finally over" moment.. Bevause it isnt over. the dragons keep coming, so do the Thalmer, the assassins,, etc. Life goes on. its much more realistic, which for many can be far less rewarding.. However, like i said, theres more than one main quest. In fact, though i know of two for sure, I am suspicious that the DB quests may also be a contributor to the over all main storyline of the game..

2. He's the son of a God. He doesn't raise undead, he actually brings them back to life completely. Basically he takes the dragon's soul and restores its connection to the body.
5. Yeah, that was a nice touch. I met Kodlak too.

Re: Discussion for players who have defeated the main quest
1) I would assume so because when he shouted you get the line of text "Alduin: Yol"
2) So you would rather, at the end of the main quest, not just never be able to fight another dragon, be dead.
3) Because alduin wanted to take nirn for the dragons, what makes you think saving a human will help him? Unless you are implying ulfric is evil. Great, conspiracy theories.
4) Yeah! Oblivion handled it wonderfully! "ALL HAYEULL DA CHAMPIUHN OF CYRODEEEEELLLL!!!!!"
5) Great... more conspiracy theories..

Re: Discussion for players who have defeated the main quest
2: As argonanza said he is firstborn of Akatosh and akatosh is the "maker" of time so even if alduin has just a little portion of this power it should be enough to "restore" the dead dragons.
3: It could also be that alduin wanted to kill the dragonborn^^, because maybe your power would have manifested before the axe could chop of your head?
4: Sometimes the guards thanked me for saving them from alduin (whiterun).
5: To bad I hasn't completed much quests till then, the only funny thing I found was that if you completed the first quest for the college (bards) you get a reference there

If you pay attention, Alduin actually uses a Shout to bring the dragons back from the dead. Not magic. Not sure which Words of Power he uses though.

Re: Discussion for players who have defeated the main quest
^^ Wow cool! sounds badass. I need to learn those shouts and raise my own dragon army!
And trelares, i totally forgot that Alduin would probably be better off LETTING ME DIE. So you think he wanted to do it himself or something? It's probably possible he didn't know who I was. Or maybe he knew I was in the general area and thats why he tried to kill everyone there. And Ulfric getting away was just a ridiculous coincidence

When I went into Sovngaarde, I was roleplaying the Harbinger. I thought I might see Kodlak.
Was totally surprised when I actually did.

I'm kind of annoyed that I only found out afterwards that Legate Rikke ends up in Sovngarde. I wish I spoke to her to see what she says.

Not an awful lot. Like everyone in Sovngarde she turned into a Shakespearean poet for no particular reason and dwells on the dismal futility of traversing Alduin's soul snare. After he's dead, she's happy for you. Or something.SilentPsycho wrote:I'm kind of annoyed that I only found out afterwards that Legate Rikke ends up in Sovngarde. That was Alduin. I have no idea about the console stuff.dtmwerks wrote:If it wasn't clear enough in the title, there will be spoilers. You have been warned.

It's a Shout, one of the unique ones only he can use. The other is the meteor storm he sometimes uses. I would assume only he can do them, being a god. The reason the dragon flesh mending shout works is that only a Dragonborn can kill a dragon forever. If anyone else kills one, the soul is still bound up in the ruined body. Only a few Dragonborn have ever existed. The three ancient Nord heroes who defeated Alduin's armies weren't Dragonborn, only masters of the Thu'um, which is not always the same thing..2. What crazy magic is Alduin using to REVIVE dragons. All these named dragons and even unnamed are still flying around. Great, but while the game explained how ALDUIN is still alive (almost unkillable, so they sent him forward in time), it doesn't exactly explain how the other dragons are still about. He was likely trying to kill you, or stumbled on the scene by dumb luck. He's a god though, so he probably felt your presence.3.
I've had plenty of people tell me I saved the world.4. You know, at least in Oblivion, there were some BIG HUGE INDICATORS that the main quest was done. Skyrim I suppose you get a dragon call which is pretty decent, but I haven't heard ONE person in skyrim comment on it! I want my parade!
Yeah, and I noticed some ancient heroes like Olaf and Ysgramor too.5. For those who killed ulfric in the side quest, or even other important members, did you notice he showed up after you kill alduin? That was some nice attention to detail. Although, he sure doesn't seem bitter about it. Treats me like a hero!
Any comments/questions about main quest?
Important to note that Alduin says in Draconic as his body explodes "I am eternal. I cannot die." and then he turns golden and takes the exact pose of Akatosh at the end of Oblivion's MQ before exploding. Paarthurnax comments that he may not be truly gone for all time, as well.

Re: Discussion for players who have defeated the main quest
In Oblivion, everyone could see akatosh' statue in the middle of the IC, all the Oblivion gates closing, no daedra anymore,...
In Skyrim, No-one can go to Sovngarde to see the dovahkiin defeat Alduin, there are no indications that everythings over, the dragons are still flying around, you know. So most people would think: OH NOES, there are still dragons, the end is near!

Since when is what anyone else thinks of you important anyway?? What you think of yourself is very important, but what others think doesnt mean a thing. Dovakiin do most of their job sight unseen by others. So what, you as Dovakiin know what you did. How do you judge yourself?? Thats all that matters..

Yeah...a previous dragonborn, Wulfharth, did most of the heavy lifting for Tiber Septim behind the scenes but stayed out of the spotlight. Tiber got the credit for his military victories.

@ Pilaf, this is not really clear as your statement is from The arcturian heresy, most people on Tamriel however belief in the original story and we have no real clue if one of the versions is correct or if the truth is a mix of both stories.

The Heresy is semi confirmed in this game by this quest, though. At the very least there was a Hjalti, who slept in the same place Tiber Septim did, which means there could have been a Wulfharth. It just so happens Wulfharth is mentioned in dialogue as having been trained by the Greybeards at another point in the main quest. We have a confirmed existence of both these men from the heresy. That doesn't make the heresy true, but it brings certain elements of it into certainty.
