What if.....
Try to put your own What if...
What if there was a perk for two handed that allowed you to dual wield two handed weapons (the Fury Warrior perk from WoW). It would be affected by only two handed perks still however

What if you could ride a dragon and maneuver it just as well as they maneuver themselves, traveling between towns extremely quickly and blasting enemies with its Shouts and yours.
If they weren't nords, but instead dunmer or redguards, nobody would call them "racist".

What if, when marrying someone, you could choose to have children? And what if these children were a realistic blending of whatever two races your characters are? Can you imagine an Argonian marrying an Orc?

Re: What if.....
What if the Dovahkiin is a real person in a real world, and we only think we're controlling her?
What if the Dovahkiin asks someone "What if none of this is real, and we are all just pieces of data being manipulated by someone else?"?
What if you suddenly heard the Dovahkiin ask that, and then the camera panned back to third person and everyone on-screen looked at the camera in unison?
What if Al-Duin is the good guy, trying to save the world of Nirn from unending stagnation, and Akatosh is the bad guy, planting the Dovahkiin so that his rule may continue to the detriment of the world?
What if illusionary manipulation spells didn't become worthless after you reached a certain level?
What if the Dovahkiin is, in fact, not the Dovahkiin?
What if Mirmulnir found a way into the Dovahkiin and took over, then decided to replace Al-Duin as the Lord of Dragons, and that is the reason for the "Dovahkiin's" rampage against dragonkind?

I can't entirely claim that one for myself. Re: What if.....
Oh, no, not entirely. Some what-ifs, like the one I commented on you made, are just lore hypotheticals, which are always fun and enjoyable. But some things, like weapons and such, may one day be the stuff mods are made out of. We have a community of them around here and I know a few could always use some ideas.Sansreal wrote:Was that a hint that we should be posting these in an alternate location? Because, aside from the Illusion criticism, my what-ifs aren't exactly mod-implementable...

Re: What if.....
One last one, if I may.
What if Nirn actually advanced socially and technologically, instead of just politically?
If anything, you could say that the field of magic has digressed. What new spells have been discovered? The courage spells of Illusion and the ability to fix a destruction spell as a trap. Meanwhile, I won't even begin to number the spells that have been lost even in the 200 years since Oblivion.
And socially? Just about everything that has changed between games is a political change. Necromancy is legal, that's true, but it's still socially anathema. Most races still think the Dunmer ask for everything that happens to them and that the Khajit are all thieves. The Argonians are still scaley and gross. The Nords still think the only way to do battle is with a BIGGER AXE and pay little attention to most other races. The Bosmer, Breton, Imperial, and Redguard aren't particularly hated or well-liked except by very specific races who have a grudge. The Altmer are still supremely arrogant (even more so), and EVERYONE still hates the Orsimer.
What if something happened, and suddenly the Orcs found an unlikely ally in the Dunmer? Orsinium's borders expand with Dunmer help and the Dunmer can clear the scaleys out of their homeland with the help of their new Orcish allys.
What if the Argonians stopped breathing and as a result became much more well-liked by all? Everyone becomes inexplicably lighthearted and the world smells better (Hold on, my bias is showing ^.^).
What if someone found out you can make alloys out of more than just iron and corundum, or can create armor with multiple materials in seperate places? Moonstone combined with Ebony creates an alloy that is naturally resistant to temperature change, but in turn requires more heat to effectively mold. Scale/Dwarven composite armor that moves more quietly and more effectively covers gaps. Endless possibilities. Sure, you can make a set of full Ebony armor and it'll give you great armor class, but it'll be incredibly heavy. Why do that when you can sacrifice a miniscule amount of armor class for much more ease of movement by making certain parts out of Refined Moonstone? You could level your skills with each material seperately and need a certain degree of skill with each material you use in composite pieces. This also introduces varying qualities of a particular style of armor. An orcish helm made by someone who is unfamiliar with Orichalcum will not be as good as the same by someone who has worked with it their whole life, even if the former can make an amazing helm of ebony. Orcs would recieve a bonus, not in smithing, but in Orichalcum smithing. The best suit of armor would require a mastery of every style of smithing, incorporating several types of materials and reagents. And the same would go for weapons. You could make an Ebony Sword with incredibly sharp Glass as the edge. You could reinforce an Elven Battleaxe by using Orichalcum or Dwarven Ingots. In short, the materials used for light armors and heavy armors would also have different properties when used for weapons. Heavy materials are more weighty, giving a bonus to armor piercing but less overall damage, meaning a combination of the two would create the best weapons. Using the Heart of a Daedra in the creation of a weapon or armor would enhance its properties. Instead of simple "Daedric" equipment, you would have a Daedra-infused Orcish Greatsword, or a Daedra-infused Glass and Ebony War-axe. You would, of course, have to have mastered the use of a material in order to infuse it with Daedric quality.
Edit: I just realized that I'm creating an entire game out of just the smithing portion of TES and getting wildly off-topic. Anyways, technological and social advances would make Tamriel much more dynamic from game to game, but counter to the "Streamlining" (read: dumming-down) trend that TES has been going in.
